Is Cartoon Network dead? #RIPCartoonNetwork creates online buzz on X

Mumbai: The #RIPCartoonNetwork trending on X (formerly Twitter) has sent shockwaves through fans, fueled by reports hinting at the possible closure of the channel. The popularity of the hashtag followed a video posted by ‘Animation Workers Ignited’ on X, captioned “Is Cartoon Network really gone?!?!” This viral post also drew attention to imminent job cuts within the animation industry affecting various studios.

In the video, it was revealed that Cartoon Network is facing significant challenges, mirroring similar struggles in other animation studios. The footage highlighted concerns over job losses, noting that many workers have already been unemployed for extended periods, exacerbated by the industry’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The video explained that while animation could operate smoothly remotely during the pandemic, studios chose to cancel projects, outsource work, and conduct widespread layoffs.

Criticism was aimed at major studios for prioritizing cost-cutting measures and layoffs, contrasting sharply with the continued financial gains enjoyed by CEOs and executives. The video condemned these profit-driven actions and gave extra weight to the inequality in benefitting from such decisions.

Additionally, the video called for action from viewers to raise awareness, urging them to share posts about their favorite Cartoon Network shows using the hashtag #RIPCartoonNetwork. It promised further opportunities for involvement, encouraging followers to stay informed by following the account for updates.

According to a recent update, Cartoon Network has confirmed that neither the network nor its studio is shutting down.

They said, “Cartoon Network would like to clarify that is no truth to the speculation that the network or the studio are shutting down,” affirmed a spokesperson. “With a number of recently announced greenlights, we remain committed to continually investing in innovative content that entertains and inspires our viewers across the globe.”
