    MTV Roadies teams up with Maharashtra Traffic Police for road safety

    Mumbai: Witnessing a groundbreaking partnership that combined entertainment, responsibility and compassion, India’s leading youth entertainment channel, MTV’s iconic youth reality show, MTV Roadies – Karm ya Kaand joined forces with the Maharashtra Highway Traffic Police for an innovative road safety campaign in Mumbai. In a significant move towards fostering road safety awareness, MTV Roadies provided 500 Roadies branded helmets, created by a not-for-profit organisation, Yashlok Foundation, to the Maharashtra Highway Traffic Police. This collaboration underscored the show’s dedication to promoting road safety and responsibility, with a sense of adventure, in line with the ethos of the show.  

    As a part of this collaboration, Humanitarian, Philanthropist, and Actor Sonu Sood, along with a dedicated team of Traffic personnel took over the bustling streets of Andheri West, Mumbai recently. Similar to the show’s unexpected twists and turns, the team equipped ‘Kaand’ helmet non-wearers i.e., the rule-breakers with the helmets, instead of penalizing them – as an act of ‘Karm’ to help them follow road safety rules in the future. Embodying the spirit of the show, the initiative emphasised the importance of doing good deeds while holding individuals accountable for their actions.

    Maharashtra Highway Traffic Police additional director general of police (ADGP) Dr Ravinder Singal, added, “As guardians of road safety, we are committed to making our streets safer for all. This unique collaboration between MTV Roadies – Karm ya Kaand and us, the Maharashtra Highway Traffic Police, has helped us reinforce the importance of road safety in a widespread way, changing mindsets and behaviours. We are appreciative of all the efforts taken by MTV on the streets of Mumbai today.”

    Deepening the message of the initiative, viewers also witnessed a vital road safety message by the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) of Maharashtra Traffic Police, Ravinder Singal, during one of the recent episodes of MTV – Roadies Karm ya Kaand, fostering responsible behaviour on the roads, amongst MTV Roadies fans across the nation.

    TuneCore announces the second TuneCore Grant

    Mumbai: TuneCore, the leading development partner for self-releasing artists—owned by Believe, one of the world’s leading digital music companies—has announced the funding of the second artist grant India-based artists, with this year’s grant specifically highlighting Punjabi music creators. The TuneCore Grant is a cash endowment of Rs 100,000 that will be awarded to one selected artist.

    Artists who participate and submit their singles will be judged based on their talent and potential by a panel of industry experts including Artist and Label Partnerships head Padmanabhan NS, Spotify head Rumpa Banerjee, Indian Performing Rights Society head of marketing/communication & member relations Atul Churamani, Turnkey Music & Publishing managing director Satvinder Kohli (Sonu Paaji), Speed Records Entertainment director (Punjab) Sonali Singh, Ripple Effect Studios founder and business manager Diljit Dosanjh; and TuneCore head, South Asia, Heena Kriplani.

    Submission details and additional information surrounding the TuneCore Grant Punjab are available on TuneCore India’s Instagram channel @tunecore.ind. Grant Applications from artists should include an original Punjabi single of any genre.

    Last year, TuneCore unveiled its Unlimited pricing structure, allowing constant music creation to be made more accessible for all artists by giving them the ability to release an unlimited number of singles and albums for one flat annual price. The Unlimited program gives artists the freedom to create more music and experiment with different release strategies to advance their careers and feed their growing fanbases. Even those sensitive to pricing can experience TuneCore’s expertise in independent distribution and become eligible for upstream into Believe’s Label & Artist Solutions or Believe Artist Services divisions’ “Signed By” program which has benefited over 400 TuneCore artists globally.

    Earlier this year TuneCore introduced Splits to fuel collaboration for self-releasing artists and enable royalty payments from their streaming & download revenue to be easily split between all collaborators on any track or album.

    With this edition of TuneCore Grant Punjab, TuneCore focuses on the talent of regional India, narrowing the scope and turning the spotlight on regional music. The TuneCore Grant Punjab is the first of its kind.

    TIPS Industries receives favourable judgment in dispute against Wynk

    Mumbai: TIPS Industries Ltd., India’s music label and a leading player in the music and entertainment industry, has announced that the company had received a favourable judgement from the Division Bench of the Hon’ble Bombay High Court in their legal proceedings against Wynk Ltd. The judgment highlighted the fact that Wynk Ltd. had utilised TIPS Industries’ content without a formal commercial arrangement and disallowed Wnyk from using any part of the TIPS repertoire and upheld previous single bench judgment by the Hon’ble Justice S J Kathawalla.

    A spokesperson from TIPS Industries Ltd. said, “We hold the court’s decision in high regard and appreciate its thorough examination of the case. Our primary objective throughout this process has been to ensure that the rights of copyright holders are upheld. We hope this judgment will serve as a landmark for similar cases in the entertainment industry, emphasising the importance of copyright laws.”

    The court’s judgment provides a detailed and objective interpretation of certain provisions of the Section 31D of the Copyright Act, 1957.

    In summary, a dispute between TIPS Industries and Wynk Ltd. concerned the utilisation of TIPS Industries’ repertoire by Wynk Ltd. without an established commercial agreement. Over the course of the dispute, despite multiple communications and efforts to reach a commercial resolution, a mutual agreement could not be achieved. As a result, TIPS Industries requested Wynk to remove the entire TIPS repertoire from its platform, failing which and followed by a statutory license notice issued by Wynk to Tips, Tips had to seek refuge under the legislative framework before the Hon’ble Bombay High Court.

    Tips managing director Kumar Taurani had to say, “It’s been a long journey on this case, since 2016 from its start and between Covid-19 and right until today. We are grateful for this order and sincerely thank the judicial system. There’s no doubt that we have lost business and faced losses over these last 7 years but this judgement paves the way forward for all copyright holders. We are here to do business and now that there’s a clear legal mandate we hope that this will further fuel Tips’s growth.”

    On the fifth season of South Side Story, your feelings and your expectations for this season

    Over the years and in previous editions of South Side Story, we have received an overwhelmingly positive response from our audience. It is our humble effort to bring the south of India to the metros. We believe it is our responsibility to continue bringing the best out of regional spaces. This year too, our vision has been to get the spirit of inclusion and diversity, with all the flavours of South India to the North and West, primarily through music. Listeners from both Delhi and Mumbai have validated our efforts by embracing the need gap of regional music consumption in the cities.

    We recently concluded one edition in Mumbai on September 2nd, and we are deeply touched by the immense love the city has shown us, even amidst heavy rainfall on the day of the event. We anticipated (Mumbai edition) and are anticipating (Delhi Edition) a fantastic gathering of music enthusiasts coming together under one roof to sing, dance, and soak in the vibrant spirit of South India in their own city. Our commitment has always been to create an immersive festival experience for our listeners.

    On how the earlier four seasons delivered for RedFM

    As a NAT-local brand, we never neglect the cultural or local ethos. This commitment inspired the inception of our concept five years ago, where we recognized the importance of introducing regional music to the metros. South Side Story represents our humble endeavor to showcase independent music created in various South Indian languages such as Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and more.

    We invest in a number of community-building initiatives and IP. Due to COVID-19, we moved South Side Story online for two years. Last year, we held it in Delhi and the response was so positive that we decided to bring back the festival in Mumbai this year.

    The name South Side Story encompasses the whole South Indian experience in three words. It echoes a sense of belonging to the ones whose roots lie down south, while creating an intrigue for those who wish to be a part of the culture. The intent was to create a simple name which retains top of mind recall, while also striking a chord with the younger generation. A story gives the listener an infinite scope of imagination, and likewise this festival also has infinite possibilities, flavors, colors and melodies.

    We embarked on this journey with two bands,Thaikkudam Bridge and Agam the Band. However, the overwhelming response led us to include more talented artists. As a result, this season of the festival features a total of 12 artists in Mumbai and Delhi, including the two bands that have been a part for all five seasons i.e Agam and Thaikkudam Bridge

    Sometimes, an IP gains popularity simply because it has been around for a while. For instance, if Dugga Dugga (an experiential festival that celebrates Kolkata’s iconic Durga Puja through music) continues for a few more years, it will likely reach the same scale as South Side Story. We embrace and celebrate all cultures, striving to be an inclusive brand that brings people together.

    Over the years of hosting South Side Story, we’ve consistently received suggestions as soon as each edition concludes. The overwhelming love and affection from our audience inspires us to explore and extend opportunities to artists and musicians beyond their regional cities.

    A wide range of brands from various sectors, including automobile, BFSI and FMCG have been supporting us through multiple IPs that we do through the year. What sets South Side Story apart is its inclusive audience that lacks age restrictions making it an attractive advertising platform.     Warner Music India and Warner Music Canada Come Together To Launch 91 RECORDS

    Mumbai:  Warner Music Canada and Warner Music India have come together to launch a new joint venture, 91 NORTH RECORDS, aimed at supporting artists of South Asian heritage.  The new entity will be guided by renowned artist and producer Ikky, who has come onboard as Creative Director.  

    Ikky has already made huge waves across the industry, racking up more than two billion streams worldwide with songs such as Shubh’s “Baller”, Diljit Dosanjh’s “Chauffeur” and Sidhu Moose Wala’s “Bambiha Bole”.  He launched his own label, 4N Records, in partnership with Warner Music and Coalition Music in 2021.    

    91 NORTH RECORDS’ first signings are Canadian-based Punjabi stars Karan Aujla and Jonita Gandhi. Both artists will work closely with Ikky as well as A&R Director, Charlie B.

    Karan released his new album Making Memories last Friday and over the last five years has become one of the scenes biggest artists. Since his first major hit “Don’t Worry” in 2018, he’s received almost three billion views on YouTube, has garnered over one billion audio streams and eight million followers across his social media channels.

    The name 91 NORTH RECORDS references both countries with a nod to India’s country code and Canada’s geographical location and the logo is inspired by India’s national flower the lotus.

     

    The label held a launch event at Warner Music Canada’s offices in Toronto on Tuesday, August 22.

    There are almost 2.6 million people of South Asian heritage living in Canada and a new generation of artists from these communities are starting to have a massive impact in the country and internationally. There is also a strong musical connection between the South Asian diaspora in Canada and the subcontinent.  Three of the Top 10 tracks in India in 2022 were by Punjabi-Canadian artists according to IFPI figures.
