    Max to premiere ‘Bahubali’ on 25 October

    MUMBAI: Sony Max will be premiering Bahubali – the heroic tale of two brothers, on 25 October at 8 pm in Hindi.

    It may be recalled that the Malayalam version of the movie was premiered earlier this month on Mazhavil Manorama.

    Directed by S S Rajamouli, the film tells the tale of adventure, romance, love, betrayal, valour and weakness. The cast of the film includes Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Tamanaah Bhatia and Anushka Shetty. The film rides high on Herculean war sequences.

    Q1-2016: Vision Cinemas reports net sales & PAT growth of 69%

    BENGLAURU: The good days for the movie business seem to continue in this quarter also. A small three-screen multiplex with a food-court in Bengaluru, Vision Cinema Limited (Vision Cinema) reported 69.2 per cent growth in net sales/income from operations (excluding branch transfer, net of excise duty) or TIO to Rs 156.05 lakh in the quarter ended 30 September, 2015 (Q1-2015, since the company’s financial year is 1 July to 30 June) from Rs 92.22 lakh in the corresponding quarter of last year. TIO was 26.5 per cent higher than the Rs 123.4 lakh in the previous quarter (Q4-2015).

     

    Note:  100,00,000 = 10 million = 100 lakh = 1 crore

     

    Vision Cinemas PAT in Q3-2015 more than trebled (3.44 times) at Rs 39.16 lakh as compared to the Rs 11.39 lakh in Q1-2015 and 69.4 per cent more than the Rs 23.12 lakh in Q4-2015.

     

    Total expense (TE) for Q1-2016 at Rs 110.04 lakh was 45.6 per cent more than the Rs 75.58 lakh in Q1-2015 and was 12.1 per cent more than the Rs 98.13 lakh in Q4-2015.

     

    A major component of the company’s TE is ‘Purchase of Traded Goods – Distributor Share of Revenue’ (Distributor share). Vision Cinemas spent Rs 56.68 lakh in Q1-2016 towards distributor share, which was 29 per cent more than the Rs 43.93 lakh in Q1-2015 and 28.9 per cent more than the Rs 43.98 lakh in the immediate trailing quarter.

    Star Gold to premiere ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ in 4K on DTH

    MUMBAI: Breaking new ground every now and then in the television space, Star India is yet again taking the lead by premiering the Salman Khan starrer Bajrangi Bhaijaan in 4K on three direct-to-home (DTH) platforms.

     

    Bajrangi Bhaijaan will be the first Hindi movie to be premiered in 4K on Tata Sky, Videocon and Airtel DTH’s Star Gold 4K channel. This also marks the launch of the Star Gold 4K service, which is especially delivered for the film premiere. However, it will be available only for two days (10 & 11 October) on the three DTH platforms.

     

    Along with Star Gold 4K, the movie will also be simulcast on the Star Gold HD and SD on 11 October, 2015 at 12.30 pm.

     

    With the service, the channel aims to provide its viewers a superlative viewing experience of the film. As a build up to the 4K premiere, the channel will showcase specially created promos and short format content videos in the same service. The content will be delivered in the same way as Video On Demand content is housed by the respective DTH operators.

    MSM inks multi-year film content deal with NBCUniversal for Pix

    MUMBAI: Multi Screen Media (MSM) has entered into a multi-year content partnership with NBC Universal International Distribution.

     

    As a result of this agreement, MSM’s English movie channel Sony Pix will now have access to Universal Pictures’ new US theatrical release. 

     

    Multi Screen Media CEO NP Singh said, “We always strive to get top quality content for our viewers. With access to Universal’s movie titles, we have put ourselves in a position to get the best movies that Hollywood has to offer. I am confident that with this deal, viewer needs will be well-met and their enhanced movie experience will steadily increase viewer loyalty to Sony Pix – our English movie channel.”

     

    NBC Universal has had a landmark year in 2015 and is the first studio ever to have three films namely Minions, Jurassic World and Fast & Furious 7 each cross over the $1 billion mark in the worldwide box office in a single year.

     

    The studio also recently passed the $5.53 billion mark at the worldwide box office, breaking the record for highest-grossing year – ever – for a studio in industry history. The current worldwide total to date is an unprecedented $6.38 billion.

     

    This strategic multi-year deal will give Sony Pix access to Universal’s latest movie releases such as Fast & Furious 7, Jurassic World, Ted 2, Pitch Perfect 2 and Illumination Entertainment’s Minions, as well as the first installment in the studio’s various blockbuster franchises such as Jurassic Park, The Mummy, The Fast & Furious, The Hulk and Despicable Me.

     

    Sony Pix will also provide viewers with access to other hit films from the studio such as Gladiator, the first three films in the Rambo franchise, King Kong, Schindler’s List, Ted and Notting Hill amongst others.

    Sony Pictures bolsters international production team with dual hires

    MUMBAI: In two new hires that bolster Sony Pictures Entertainment’s moves to expand the creation of international films and television for worldwide markets, the studio has named Diego Suarez as senior vice president, international television production, and Matthew Stein as vice president, international film production.

     

    The duo will report to Sony Pictures Entertainment president of international film and television Sanford Panitch.

     
    In their new roles, Suarez and Stein will acquire and develop both local and international film and television content with key international production partners. 

     

    Panitch said, “Diego Suarez is for me the definition of the modern international television executive with his wide-ranging experience at both the studio level and in the international channel business. We see tremendous opportunity in producing both international and local language television content, and we are thrilled to have Diego join the team. In Matt Stein, we get a resourceful film executive with a well-trained background in overseeing smartly budgeted film franchises. He will be an asset in further igniting our local production activities, and in finding internationally oriented films for the world.”

     

    Suarez comes to SPE from Fox21 Television Studios, where he was senior vice president, creative affairs. Some of the projects Suarez brought in to the studio include The Queen of the South to air on USA in January 2016, as well as Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, based on the 1988 hit film from Pedro Almodovar, and Hamelin, written by award-winning Spanish filmmaker Paco Plaza.

     

    Prior to his tenure at Fox21, Suarez served stints at Fox International Channels, Italy; Spain’s television production companies Boca Boca Producciones; and at Cuatrocabezas (Eyeworks).

    On the other hand, Stein joins SPE after most recently serving as independent producer on a variety of feature film projects. Prior, Stein held the role of executive vice president of Production at Dimension Films, where he oversaw production and development for the company.

    Zee Cinema HD will premiere the movie on 19 September at 8 pm. 

     

    Shot across the Mediterranean Sea on a cruise ship, the film stars Anil Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra, Farhaan Akhtar, Anushka Sharma and Shefali Shah. Additionally, the film has narration by Aamir Khan.

    MUMBAI: &pictures has packed a big marketing punch for the world television premiere of the Varun Dhawan starrer Badlapur. 

     

    The movie will premiere on 20 September at 8:30 pm and &pictures will be marketing it by launching a first-of-its-kind initiative called ‘The Badlapur Hunt’ for the people of Mumbai on 16 September.

     

    Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (Zeel) Hindi movies channel business head Ruchir Tiwari said, “Honoring our commitment of providing the latest and best films, we at &pictures always aim to interact and engage with our audiences through various creative ways. ‘The Badlapur Hunt’ is one such innovative contest, which will be gain maximum traction on our strong digital platforms. We have a more direct relationship with our audiences than we ever did before and a distinctive 360 degree campaign across mediums is also planned.”

     

    The hunt enables five teams of two individuals each to participate, wherein winners stand a chance to win a state of the art tablet. The teams are selected via generic contests conducted on various media platforms including social media, newspapers and radio.

     

    The hunt begins with one person from each team being taken away to an undisclosed location. In order to search for their missing team member, their respective partners, (just like Varun Dhawan in the film) will have to solve clues and perform tasks handed out by &pictures team at strategic locations across the city.

    MUMBAI: Salman Khan’s latest blockbuster Bajrangi Bhaijaan, which is still running at the Indian box office after eight weeks with more than Rs 300 crore in its kitty, is all set to premiere on television. And Star Gold has planned a marketing blitzkrieg to promote the movie’s world television premiere slated for October. The movie will be premiered on Star Gold as well as Star Gold HD.

     

    An extensive 360 degree marketing campaign comprising print, outdoor, radio, cinema and digital mediums kickstarted from 10 September and will lead up to the premiere day.

     

    Apart from this, a consumer engagement activity called ‘Selfie with Salman Contest’ will be initiated on social media platforms, giving Khan’s fans a chance to get a digitally modified ‘Selfie with Salman.’ The winner images will also be showcased on the channel during the movie’s premiere.
