Sunfeast uses child advocates to ‘Save the Environment’; SRK hops onto campaign
MUMBAI: ITC Foods has announced a nationwide campaign titled ‘Sunfeast Hara Banao‘. In its third year, this campaign aims at educating children about the growing environmental adversities and their contribution in “Saving the Environment”. This year Shah Rukh Khan has also been roped in.
The environmental campaign, which will run across schools in the cities will organize a signature drive – “Sow a Seed Today Campaign”, where in students collect signatures from people who pledge to do their bit for saving the environment by recycling and sowing a seed as part of the first phase.
The second phase of the month long campaign will host the ‘Sunfeast Hara Banao Week‘ which consists of a series of Environment Fairs across five cities. The Environment Fair will kick off with a sapling plantation and a march in each city. The march is aimed at reaching out to the people in the city to play their part in “Saving the Environment”. The Environment Fair will showcase projects by the students of various schools, and also organize various inter school environment based competitions, informs an official release.
The scope of this initiative has increased over the last three years while this year the campaign has registered over 3,00,000 students from more than 400 schools spread across five cities in the country.

It’s ‘Open Season’ for Sony Pictures this festive season
MUMBAI: On Friday 20 October 2006 Sony Pictures Releasing of India will release Sony Pictures Releasing‘s first animated film Open Season.
The film is about Boog, a domesticated 900lb. Grizzly bear finds himself stranded in the woods three days before Open Season. Forced to rely on Elliot, a fast-talking mule deer, the two form an unlikely friendship and must quickly rally other forest animals if they are to form a rag-tag army against the hunters.
Sony is doing innovations to push this film. Speaking to Indiantelevision.com on this Sony Pictures Releasing of India manager advertising and promotions Harshvardhan Gangurde says that a campaign on television has been running on kids channels for the past couple of weeks.
The idea of using the likes of Pogo, Animax, Nickelodeon is that the main audience for this film is kids. So spots pushing the film have been airing together with soundbytes from the voice cast. This includes Martin Lawrence who provides the voice for Boog and Ashton Kutcher who voices Elliot talking about their experiences making the film.
30 prints of the film will be released. Interestingly the film will not be dubbed. Open Season is also being released in Imax. So Sony Pictures and Imax are doing a special push. From tomorrow on ground activity will start where the two characters from the film will be present in person.
They will start their activity by visiting malls in Mumbai as well as Imax Adlabs at Wadala. They will then go to Hyderabad. A bus has been arranged for and the two characters will visit different locations with the aim of meeting kids and families. Imax is also looking at having a mini jungle set up in their theatres where kids can play.
Sony Pictures also kicked off a school contact programme which is drawing to a close. This was done in conjunction with Sanctuary Magazine. Since the film is about nature conservation the partnership was a natural fit.
Activity was done in 200 schools across the country. An activity sheet was given where kids did mazes, colouring, essays. Talks were also given on the importance of preserving the natural environment. Screenings will now be held for school kids. In addition Sony Pictures is also looking to help Sanctuary Magazine with its Save A Tiger petition. So at cinema halls people who buy a ticket for the film will be urged to sign the petition. This will then be sent to the President of India.
Booproo chewing gum is the brand that has tied up with the film. They have cut a TVC which seeks to push the brand by leveraging the equity of the film‘s characters. On the mobile front Sony Pictuers through its partner Hungama Mobile will be distributing content. This includss games, voice tones, video ringtones. One can send an SMS to 4646 to get these products.

MUMBAI: Cartoon Network Enterprises (CNE), the global licensing and merchandising division of the Network has announced the launch of consumer products featuring the Galli Galli Sim Sim characters including Elmo, Biscuit Badshah, Bharat, Ernie across four categories. In their efforts to extend the magic of the series, Turner International wants to give children a chance to touch, feel and own the characters outside of their TV sets.

Turner inks deal with Nokia for Cartoon Network mobile content
MUMBAI: Turner Broadcasting and Nokia have announced that high-quality content from Turner‘s Cartoon Network will be made available for consumer downloads through the Nokia Content Discoverer client, embedded in Nokia devices available in markets globally. The territories covered under this agreement include United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Belgium, The Netherlands, Finland, Sweden and Norway.
Under this multi-country deal between the companies, mobile subscribers will be able to browse, download and purchase over-the-air Cartoon Network games, video clips, and other content from a dedicated Cartoon Network mobile content “storefront” available to consumers through the device-resident Nokia Content Discoverer client, part of Nokia‘s complete mobile content ecosystem, informs an official release.
A selection of Cartoon Network favourites – ranging from Johnny Bravo to Dexter‘s Laboratory will be offered on the service. The new agreement provides a method for people to quickly access and enjoy Cartoon Network entertainment on buses, at school or in the office, according to Turner Broadcasting vice president Commercial Distribution and Digital Media Sales Phil Lawrie.

Disney to encourage kids to eat healthy
MUMBAI: The Walt Disney Company has introduced new food guidelines for licensed foods and promotions aimed at children that will govern Disney‘s business partnerships and activities in the U.S. on a going-forward basis and will be adapted internationally over the next several years.
The new policies call for Disney to use its name and characters ond fat and sugar. ly on kid-focused products that meet specific guidelines, including limits on calories, fat, saturated fat and sugar.
Disney also announced nutritionally-beneficial changes in the meals served to children at all Disney-operated restaurants in its parks and resorts and unveiled a company-wide plan to eliminate added trans fats from food served at its parks by the end of 2007 and from its licensed and promotional products by the end of 2008.
“Disney will be providing healthier options for families that seek them, whether at our Parks or through our broad array of licensed foods,” said Disney president and CEO Robert Iger. “The Disney brand and characters are in a unique position to market food that kids will want and parents will feel good about giving them.”
Disney Consumer Products has already begun to offer many licensed products which comply with the guidelines. They include breakfast items such as instant oatmeal featuring characters like The Incredibles and Kim Possible, and Disney Garden fresh produce such as kid-sized apples and bananas. Lunch and dinner foods such as Mickey-shaped organic ravioli and other pastas are also now available, informs an official release.
Beginning this month in U.S. Disney Parks and Resorts, kids‘ meals are automatically being served with low fat milk, 100 percent fruit juice or water along with side dishes like apple sauce or carrots in place of the traditional soft drinks and French fries. Initial tests involving 20,000 kids‘ meals show that as many as 90 percent of parents and kids stayed with the more nutritious option.
Added trans fats are in the process of being removed from all Disney food offerings. Food served at the U.S. Disney Parks and Resorts will be free of added trans fats by the end of 2007. Disney‘s U.S. licensing and promotional groups are aiming to meet an end-2008 deadline.
These guidelines are based on The Dietary Guidelines for Americans and have been developed in cooperation with two child health and wellness experts, Dr. James O. Hill, director of the Center for Human Nutrition at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, and Dr. Keith Thomas Ayoob, Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Jim Perry promoted to Nickelodeon, MTVN Kids & Family Group EVP
MUMBAI: Jim Perry has been named executive vice president, 360 Brand Sales, Nickelodeon and MTVN Kids and Family Group. This announcement was made by Nickelodeon and MTVN Kids and Family Group president Cyma Zarghami and MTV Networks U.S. ad sales president Hank Close.
In this role, Perry will oversee ad sales for multiple brands across a wide variety of platforms, including Nickelodeon, Noggin, The N, Nicktoons Network, Nick Online, Neopets, the Nickelodeon Magazine Group, and emerging media. Based in New York, Perry will report to Zarghami and Close, informs an official release.
“In his 15 years at Nickelodeon and MTV Networks, Jim has done an amazing job not only generating new partnerships with clients, but also cultivating a unique relationship between Marketing, Programming and other departments at Nickelodeon Networks to provide our partners with the best 360 degree opportunities to reach kids and families,” Zarghami said.

THQ launches ‘Scooby-Doo! Who’s Watching Who?’ video game in US

71 per cent of tweens will be online by 2010: eMarketer study
MUMBAI: The latest eMarketer‘s report suggests that among tweens and young teens some 20 million of them use the Internet and by 2010, 71 per cent of kids ages 8-11 will be online.
Tweens online may well be marketers‘ next big coveted demographic. Children between the ages of 8 and 14 — are not only strong in number but interestingly, in purchasing power, informs an official release.
It is estimated that over half of boys and girls own and use a computer, VCR, DVD player and mobile phone. In one survey quoted by eMarketer, tweens report that they love watching TV. But another study points out that children 8 to 18 spend fully one-quarter of their media time multi-tasking among media.
“Tweens and young teens may be the first generation that will come into adulthood fully expecting to obtain their media on a variety of platforms,” says eMarketer‘s senior analyst and author of the report Debra Aho Williamson.
The younger group plays more games, everyone prefers instant messaging to e-mail, and as tweens pass into their teenage years they devote more time to downloading music. More than one-third of teens ages 12 to 14 frequent MySpace, according to one study. And, the hot growth opportunity for wireless carriers is the tween market. Harris Interactive data from 2006 shows that 23 per cent of children ages 8 to 12 own a mobile phone, up from 12 per cent the previous year.
