  • Pogo to air Garfield and Friends from 15 September

    MUMBAI: Pogo will kick off a new show, Garfield and Friends. Beginning 15 September, the show will be aired daily (Monday-Thursday) at 12:30 pm.


    Garfield, the famous lazy feline whose only desires in life are lasagna, catnaps and kicking his hapless canine companion Odie off the table, is now on Pogo.



    Additionally Pogo also announced the line up of weekend movies that it will air on 13 and 14 September.


    On 13 September, the channel will air Junior at 12 noon. Movie is about a male scientist (Arnold Schwarzenegar), who agrees to carry a pregnancy in his own body as part of a fertility research project.



    The Little Rascals will be aired on 14 September at 12 noon in the movie block. Movie is all about few kids who live by their own rules. You may not see them but they are everywhere hatching pots exchanging secret messages. Trouble follows everywhere they go.

  • 4Kids Entertainment to showcase ‘Chaotic: M’Arrillian Invasion’ at Mipcom

    MUMBAI: 4Kids Entertainment will present its new fantasy adventure television property, Chaotic: M’Arrillian Invasion, to international broadcasters at the television trade event Mipcom next month in Cannes, France.



    The series’ stories will take audiences to a new level within the Chaotic gaming experience. 26 half-hour episodes of the high definition production will be available for broadcast sale.


    The Chaotic series is currently broadcast in the US on TheCW4Kids and Jetix. International broadcast partners include: Teletoon Canada, TEN Network (Australia), Jetix Latin America, RTBF (Belgium), Canal+ Cyfrowy (Poland), SIC (Portugal), Children’s Channel (Israel), MNet (South Africa), ABS-CBN (Philippines) and Kids Central (Singapore).


    Chaotic tells the tale of a teenage boy named Tom and his friend Kaz. They both play the Chaotic Trading Card/Online Game. They get transported to a place called Chaotic that is able to take them to another world where the characters, locations and items in the card game come to life.



    As Tom and Kaz delve deeper into Chaotic, they quickly confront freaky new Creatures, uncover strange new locations and scan awesome new BattleGear and Mugic™. Their games take a shocking, world-rocking turn when a mysterious new tribe, the M’arrillians, are accidentally unleashed.

  • DQ, M6 Studio, Method Animation to produce TV series on Little Nick

    MUMBAI: DQ Entertainment has entered an agreement with France based M6 Studio and Method Animation SA, for co-production of a TV series based on the iconic brand Le petit Nicolas (“Little Nick”).


    M6 Studio, an animation production subsidiary of French broadcaster M6, has decided to use this iconic image for television animation production with DQE and Method Animation as a tripartite co-production. DQE, Method Animation and Luxanimation will be exclusively executing the animated production of this tripartite animated series.



    Little Nick created by René Goscinny and illustrated by Jean-Jacques Sempé was first published in 1959. Since then this iconic French cartoon has become popular in 30 countries. Little Nick is an illustration of an ideal childhood and a nostalgic memory of



    DQ Entertainment chairman and CEO Tapaas Chakravarti said: “We are delighted to be associated with this production alongside M6 Studio & Method Animation, France. 2009 will mark the 50th Anniversary of Little Nick and we feel honoured to be involved in this animated project and celebrating the legacy of this iconic cartoon.”

  • Joel Defries to join CBBC’s ‘Blue Peter’ as co-presenter

    MUMBAI: BBC is getting Joel Defries as the second new presenter for Blue Peter, the longest running show in children‘s television.



    Defries will join current presenter Andy Akinwolere alongside other newcomer Helen Skelton, for the new series which begins on CBBC on BBC One on 23 September. Blue Peter is celebrating its 50th year.


    Defries says, “Being the presenter of Blue Peter is one of the finest jobs in the world. I wake up every day thinking I can‘t believe this is happening. I have never been so happy and can‘t wait to see what other adventures Blue Peter has lined up for me.”



    Skelton says, “I still can‘t quite believe I am one of the new Blue Peter presenters. I‘ve always been envious of the Blue Peter team because they just look like they‘re having a great time. We‘ve done so much exciting stuff for the new series – I‘m covered in bruises already, but I‘m early for work every day.”



    Current presenter Akinwolere says, “I‘m really excited to be working with Helen and Joel. Helen is very sweet and sensitive and Joel is very funny – I‘m sure that Blue Peter fans will love them both.”

  • Cartoon Network unveils 3 shows for October

    MUMBAI: Star Wars: Cartoon Network is set to premiere The Clone Wars on 3 October at 9 pm (ET, PT) with a special one-hour presentation.


    The channel will also premiere a new series of The Secret Saturdays and the current hit, Ben 10: Alien Force, in October.



    Star Wars: The Clone Wars chronicles the adventures of Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, Ahsoka Tano and other Star Wars characters as they struggle against the dark side during the divisive Clone Wars. Each week, a new story in the galaxy-changing Clone Wars will come to center stage that will be brought to the screen by supervising director Dave Filoni and executive producer George Lucas.


    Beginning 10 October at 9:30 pm, new episodes of Cartoon Network‘s hit original series Ben 10: Alien Force will follow premiere episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.


    Ben 10: Alien Force will continue the Ben 10 saga five years later, when 15-year-old Ben Tennyson chooses to once again put on the Omnitix. He discovers that it has reconfigured his DNA and can now transform him into 10 brand-new aliens. Joined by his “super-powered” cousin, Gwen Tennyson, and his equally powerful former enemy, Kevin Levin, Ben is on a mission to find his missing Grandpa, Max. In order to save his Grandpa, Ben must defeat the evil Dnaliens, a powerful alien race intent on destroying the galaxy, starting with planet Earth.



    The Secret Saturdays will premiere on 3 October at 8 pm.

  • Jetix Europe to unveil 2 fresh shows at Mipcom

    MUMBAI: Jetix Europe will unveil two of its new properties in Mipcom this year.



    The first on is Kid Vs Kat, produced by Studio B, Jetix Europe and YTV. Jimmy Two Shoes is the second show that will be unveiled at the event.


    Jetix will also exhibit some of its running shows at Mipcom. These include Yin Yang Yo, Powwer Rangers and Jungle Fury.

  • Nick’s Q1 revenue jumps 66% as audiences grow

    MUMBAI: Kids channel Nick is finally growing up on the revenue front. Led by a sharp rise in audiences, the Viacom18 channel in India has seen its earnings for the first quarter of this year jump 66 per cent over the year-ago period.


    According to Tam data (c&s 4-14, Hindi speaking market), Nick‘s channel share has gone up from nine per cent in January 2007 to 21 per cent in June 2008. This makes Nick the fastest growing channel in the kids genre, though it lags behind Cartoon Network and Hungama.


    Much of Nick‘s growth story can be attributed to the focused approach in winning over its target group (TG) through contests and relationship building activities conducted month-on-month since last year.



    “Our conscious effort to connect with our TG has helped us build affinity with kids. We have become the fastest growing channel in the category across Hindi speaking markets,” says Nick India senior vice president and general manager Nina Elavia Jaipuria.


    Some of the popular activities organised by the channel are Nick Fundoo Superstar Star, Nick Chak De Ninja, Mast Ki Pathshala, Exam Popat and April Fool in School.


    “These initiatives have helped us build affinity with kids and increased their stickiness to the channel. Due to the increase in reach, a lot of brands have come on board with us,” says Jaipuria.


    Nick‘s list of advertisers has expanded to 80 brands which include FMCGs, insurance and telecom companies.

  • Cartoon Network to air Ben 10 movie on 7 September

    MUMBAI: Cartoon Network will premiere Ben 10-Secret of the Omnitrix on 7 September at 12 noon. The repeat telecast of the movie will also be aired on the same day at 7 pm.


    In a battle with Dr. Animo, Ben Tennyson accidentally sets off the Omnitrix‘s self-destruct mode. To stop the Omnitrix from self-destructing, Ben, Gwen, Tetrax and Gluto must find the Omnitrix‘s creator and save the Universe.

  • Walt Disney Motion Pictures, MySpace partner to promote High School Musical 3

    MUMBAI: To promote the theatrical release of High School Musical 3: Senior Year (HSM3) on 24 October, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures has teamed up with MySpace to create the ultimate HSM3 School Spirit Contest. The contest will kick off on 2 September and run till 3 November.



    Designed to encourage fans to show their best school spirit, the contest will be hosted on www.myspace.com/hsm3.



    Participants can earn points for their school by logging on to the film‘s official MySpace profile, completing online tasks, and voting via text message.



    HSM3 is the biggest movie in a franchise that is already a worldwide phenomenon. It‘s all about the issues you face during senior year, especially getting ready for the next chapter of your life. We thought this contest was a great way to include every high school in the country in the fun of HSM3,” said Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures president marketing Jim Gallagher.



    “Technology, entertainment and MySpace‘s community are coming together creating once-in-a-lifetime experience for High School Musical‘s passionate fans,” said MySpace president sales and marketing Jeff Berman.



    The winning school will receive a senior trip that includes roundtrip coach airfare, hotel accommodations for two nights, airport and hotel transfers in the destination city, admission to the theme park, Disney gift cards to cover meals, and admission to the Disney Grad Nite event. The winning school also receives a HSM3 celebrity pep rally starring Natasha Bedingfield, the UK female pop star in the US, with special guest Menudo.

  • CBeebies fixes lineup for the year

    MUMBAI: BBC has announced that Michael Carrington, controller of kids broadcaster CBeebies, has unveilled Autumn 2008 schedule packed with new home-grown programmes, showcasing shows for 0–6-year-olds made in the UK.



    Kicking off the new schedule, from today 1 September, sees the return of the pre-school show In The Night Garden to CBeebies Bedtime Hour at 6.20 pm with 20 new episodes.



    Carrington says, “As promised earlier this year, we‘re delighted to be able to welcome back In The Night Garden to CBeebies Bedtime Hour with a raft of new episodes.”



    Comedy is present with the puppet series, Nuzzle and Scratch, starring two incompetent alpacas who work at a job agency for animals.



    Following the international success of Lazytown, CBeebies has the new UK series Lazytown Extra. This is a magazine show featuring favourite Lazytown characters guaranteed to be non-stop fun.



    Comic legend Lenny Henry and actress Imelda Staunton lend their vocal talents to Big And Small, a vibrant puppet series celebrating the differences between two best friends offering fun-filled adventure injected with infectious humour and music.



    Carrington adds, “Comedy takes centre stage on CBeebies this Autumn with a line-up of new, originated British content. Plus we‘re developing new formats like Lazytown Extra and bringing big names to the channel.”



    Other shows for this season on CBeebies include Postman Pat SDS (Special Delivery Service). Postman Pat has been promoted and now has a whole range of vehicles and gadgets to help him deliver the mail on time!



    Then a new CGI series takes Thomas The Tank Engine to the next level, called Chuggington. Meanwhile Little Big Cat accompanies the BBC One event Big Cat Live with CBeebies‘ Sidney Sloane travelling to Africa to meet the local children and provide regular updates.
