  • Nick names three winners for ‘Nick Toon Jockey’ contest

    MUMBAI:Kids channel Nick has announced three winners for the ‘Nick Toon Jockey’ contest. The winners are Aishwarya R Ram from Mumbai, Archit Bhatnagar from Lucknow and Arun Raheja from Delhi.


    As winners, these three toon jockeys will get a chance to become the face of Nick, call the shots and represent the channel across its various on-air and on-ground initiatives along with Nick toon stars – Perman, Ninja Hattori, SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora – the Explorer.


    Nick India SVP and GM Nina Elavia Jaipuria says, “We at Nick always endeavour to keep our Nicksters happy and this is reflected not only in our programming but also our approach towards kids. We are constantly conceiving new ways to connect with our audience and ‘Toon Jockey‘ was one of them.”


    Nick has supported the on–air Toon Jockey promotion with a 360 degree marketing campaign through on-ground activations, out-of-home advertising, and high-outdoor visibility and van activities in key markets.

  • Pogo lines up special programming for Xmas

    MUMBAI: Kids channel Pogo has announced its special programming lineup to celebrate Christmas.


    As a part of Christmas special, Pogo will screen shows and movies on 25 December from 9:30 am onwards. While the channel will showcase Shrek The Halls at 9:30, it will feature animation movies – Ice Age and Ice Age: The Meltdown – at 10 am and 12 pm respectively.



    Turner International India director programming South Asia Krishna Desai said, “Christmas for everyone and especially for kids is synonymous with family bonding, exchanging goodies and just being merry. Joining in the celebratory spirit of its viewers, Pogo showcases exciting shows and movies, making this Christmas a delightful experience.”



    As a part of the lineup, Pogo will also premiere the fifth edition of India’s first kids’ awards – Pogo Amazing Kids Awards 2008 on 28 December at 10 am.

  • Nickelodeon launches UPickDaily.com

    MUMBAI: Nickelodeon is launching UPickDaily.com, a pop culture website, which will allow kids to be their own content providers, programming directors, distributors and news aggregators around topics such as television, movies, music, gaming, celebrities, sports and the web.



    UPickDaily gives kids an online hub where they drive the content and can tell the world about their pop culture trends, events, or anything that is top-of-mind — whether it comes from the world of Nickelodeon or beyond,” said Nickelodeon kids and family group EVP digital Steve Youngwood.



    On the site, kids can submit or take quizzes and polls and also post, read and comment on what they like or dislike the most. Kid-friendly videos and photos will be pulled from the web and matched to posts by topic. Kids can tag, share, blog, vote or “pick” a particular piece of content. UPickDaily will surface the hottest picks on a continuous basis–either in the “featured” section or in “U Top 5”.

  • Nick ties up with Baskin-Robins to launch marketing initiative for Christmas

    MUMBAI: Kids channel Nick has partnered with Baskin-Robins to launch its new marketing initiative for Christmas.


    Keeping in mood with the festive season, Nick is launching an orange flavoured ice cream called ‘Nick flavour of the season’ by Baskin-Robins.



    The initiative will see Nick’s animated character SpongeBob SquarePants personally scooping out the ice-cream for kids on 23 December at the Inorbit Mall in Mumbai. Also, the character will distribute gifts to all the kids present at the Baskin and Robin outlet.



    The special Nick flavour will be available at the Baskins-Robins outlet until 4 January 2009.

  • Disney Channel to telecast ‘Camp Rock’ on 26 December

    NEW DELHI: Kids channel, Disney will telecast ‘Camp Rock‘, a Disney Channel Original Movie (DCOM), on 26 December at 6 pm.


    Says Walt Disney Television International (India) MD and senior VP Antoine Villeneuve, “Disney Channel‘s strong creative content has made it a powerhouse in kids and family entertainment worldwide. Disney‘s ‘Camp Rock‘ incorporates one of the binding themes that appeals to kids from all regions – music.”



    Written by Regina Hicks, Karin Gist, Julie Brown and Paul Brown, the musical drama has been directed by Matthew Diamond of ‘Great Performances: Dance in America‘ fame.


    ‘Camp Rock‘ is the story of a girl, Mitchie, who yearns to share her songs with the world, and of a young superstar who‘s lost his passion for music and is sent to the camp by his band mates.


    “Disney Channel has created local touch-points for fans across the country to better relate to the theme and stars of Camp Rock. The Hindi soundtracks and a nationwide ‘Camp Rock‘ inspired on-ground event like My School Rocks, have already engaged over 500,000 kids across the country”, added Villeneuve.


    ‘Camp Rock‘ local album includes three re-created songs in Hindi with Indian instruments and nine songs re-recorded in Hindi.

  • CN signs Mattel for ‘The Secret Saturdays’







    MUMBAI: Mattel has been appointed as the global master toy licensee for Cartoon Network’s fantasy-adventure animated television series The Secret Saturdays.





    The toy line, expected to be available by 2009, will include toys like action figures, playsets and role-play items inspired by the new series.


    The Secret Saturdays, produced by Porchlight Entertainment, debuted on Cartoon Network in October this year as part of the network’s Friday night fantasy programming band.

  • 5th edition of Pogo Amazing Kids Awards on 28 December

    MUMBAI: Pogo will kick off the fifth edition of Pogo Amazing Kids Awards 2008 on 28 December.


    The award, which will be telecast on the channel at 10 am, was hosted by Cyrus Sahukar and was based on the theme ‘Dream bigger.‘


    Says Turner International India Private Limited (TIIPL) vice president and deputy manager – entertainment Networks South Asia Monica Tata, “This is our fifth year of Pogo Amazing Kids Awards and we are glad to have created India‘s first kids‘ television award that voices the choice of kids as well as recognise and reward talent of such young and brilliant kids.”

    For the awards, Pogo had tied up with Warner Brothers for the film Chandni Chowk to China.


    “This year we collaborated with Warner Bros‘ much awaited movie, ‘Chandni Chowk to China‘. The movie effectively demonstrates our ‘Dream bigger‘ theme, and the presence of admired celebrities such as Akshay Kumar and Deepika Padukone at our awards made the evening memorable,” adds Tata.

    The Amazing Kid Genius award was bagged by Shantanu Gawde while the winner of the Pogo Amazing Kid Leader was Sheelu Mishra. Anand Shenoy was declared as the winner of the Pogo Amazing Kid Artist and Ronit Bisht was the winner of the Amazing Kid Sports Star amongst various others.

    The title of My Amazing Actor was won by Shah Rukh Khan while Katrina Kaif bagged the My Amazing Actress award. Also, My Amazing Film went to Taare Zameen Par.

    Turner International India had initiated the Pogo amazing Kids awards in December 2004.

  • Toei Animation licenses Pretty Cure to YTV in Canada

    MUMBAI: Toei Animation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Toei Animation Co, has signed a broadcast licensing agreement with YTV in Canada for the first season of animation series Pretty Cure.



    The series will launch on YTV in the first quarter of 2009.



    The series follows the adventures of two young girls who have become best friends.

  • Disney Channel to launch in Russia

    MUMBAI: The Walt Disney Co has formed a joint venture with Media-One Holdings, which owns and operates 30 TV stations across Russia, to launch a free-to-air television channel in the country in 2009.


    Apart from showcasing popular Disney shows like Hannah Montana” and “Wizards of Waverly Place dubbed in Russian, the channel will also be anchored by original Russian programming.



    As a part of the deal, Disney, which holds a 49 per cent stake in the channel, will supply cash and programming along with expertise in content acquisition and marketing to kids and families.



    Presently, the deal must receive regulatory approval from Russia, which requires foreign investors to have Russian partners.



    According to Walt Disney International chairman Andy Bird, since the cable and satellite television audience is limited in Russia, the new channel will be broadcast over the airwaves for free in most of the country. However, in cities like Moscow and St. Petersburg the channel will be delivered by cable. Thus, the channel could reach approximately 75 per cent of Russian television viewers.



    Earlier, Disney had formed a joint venture with Sony Pictures Releasing International to distribute films in Russia.

  • Turner launches season 3 of Galli Galli Sim Sim on 22 December

    NEW DELHI: Turner International India, in collaboration with Sesame Workshop, has launched season 3 of its children‘s TV show, Galli Galli Sim Sim on Pogo, Cartoon Network and Doordarshan.



    The show premieres on 22 December on Pogo at 11:30 am and will feature two new Muppets Elmo and Toto, the monkey alongwith popular old Muppets like Chamki, Boombah, Aanchoo and Googly.


    Says Turner International India executive director Jiggy George, “For Turner, Galli Galli Sim Sim is much more than another children’s TV show. It is our endeavour in social responsibility, to empower the children of India through their most basic right, the right to education. Based on intensively researched content, backed by a visionary outreach programme, Galli Galli Sim Sim is India’s only pre-school show with the distinction of positively reaching and influencing the lives of over 26.6 million kids.”


    In addition to Pogo, the show will be telecast on Cartoon Network at 8:30 am from Monday to Friday and on Doordarshan at 10:30 am on every Saturday.


    The new positioning of the show, which is aimed at children between the age group of 3-8 years old, is “Curiosity fosters Learning – Kyonki sawaal hai bemisaal!.” The show provides a strong foundation for preschoolers to help them prepare for school and life in a better manner.


    The third season focuses on healthy habits, good nutrition, and literacy. Additionally, the series features an 11-minute story in each episode with the Muppet characters. The stories are complemented by foot-tapping songs and music inspired by popular Indian culture.


    “India is the most populous nation of young children. Four of five of these children have no access to any kind of educational or early childhood developmental inputs. Since 2007-2008, we have reached 350,000 children through our mobile cart activity and baalwadi program; the results have been very encouraging. Our goal is to use multiple platforms to reach Galli Galli Sim Sim to children in India,” says Sesame Workshop India executive director Sashwati Banerjee.


    The third season of Galli Galli Sim Sim will be promoted through print, television and radio across the country. Turner India has also launched a new website galligallisimsim.com that features a host of games, videos and wallpapers for children.


    The show is the Hindi language adaptation of the American children‘s television series Sesame Street.
