  • ‘Total Drama Island’ to debut on Jetix from 21 March






    MUMBAI: Animated comedy Total Drama Island is set to debut on Jetix from 21 March onwards.
     

    The show will be telecast at 10.30 am everyday. It will pit 22 teens against each other in a survivor style contest to win the final prize. Each week one teen will be eliminated and forced to walk the ‘dock of shame‘


    Total Drama Island takes place at Camp Wawanakwa, a reality TV refuge with cameras hidden everywhere, including the diary room.


    Teens have to complete a weekly challenge, ranging from the ‘awake-a-thon‘ to extreme rock-climbing and sofa-bed skydiving.

  • Disney launches official community ‘D23’

    MUMBAI: Walt Disney has launched its first official community for fans called D23.


    The annual membership for D23 is $74.99 and includes one year subscription for D23 publication and membership certificate along with collectible gifts and member merchandise.”It‘s our fans that keep the spirit of Disney alive year after year, generation after generation. D23 is our way of saying ‘thank you‘ to our fans, who brings the magic of Disney to life every day in every corner of the world,” says Disney president and CEO Bob Iger.


    D23 will also be available for $15.95 at the US Barnes & Noble booksellers, domestic Disney stores, Disneyland resort, Walt Disney world, and Disneyshopping.com.

  • Disney to launch Mickey Mouse Club House season2

    MUMBAI: Walt Disney is set to launch the second season of its preschooler series, Mickey Mouse Club House (MMCH), from 28 March. The series will be aired at 9 pm on Playhouse Disney.Says Walt Disney TV international (India) SVP and MD Antoine Villeneuve, “Playhouse Disney is based on the concept of ‘imagine and learn‘ developed in consultation with early child development. MMCH on Playhouse Disney block offers cognitive, social and creative-learning opportunities.”

    Launched in May 2006, Mickey Mouse Club House reaches out to 220 million houses in approximately 130 countries across 20 languages.

  • Kids channel to be launched in Bangladesh

    MUMBAI: A kids channel will come up in Bangladesh. Titled Dugdugi TV, the channel will launch on 14 April to coincide with Pahela Baisakhi (Bengali new year).

    The channel is a joint initiative between Bangladesh Childrens‘ Film Society and Multimedia Content and Communication.


    Dugdugi TV will have movies and special programming for kids.

  • Cartoon Network to air Tom & Jerry: The Stress Busters & Animalia from 23 March












    NEW DELHI: Cartoon Network is set to telecast Tom & Jerry: The Stress Busters and Animalia from 23 March onwards.
     


     

    While the channel will telecast Tom & Jerry: The Stress Busters at 1 pm daily, Animalia will be aired at 4:30 pm from Monday to Thursday.


    Animalia tells the story of two children, Alex and Zoe, who stumble into the magical library which transports them to the animal-inhabited world of Animalia. Tom & Jerry: The Stress Busters is targeted towards kids in the month of examination.

  • Wild Pumpkin to license Toei Animation’s Digimon in Aus, NZ

    MUMBAI: Toei Animation has joined hands with Wild Pumpkin Licensing International wherein Wild Pumpkin Licensing International will develop and promote Digimon Data Squad merchandise in the Australian and New Zealand markets.


    “Digimon is popular with television audiences around the world and we are confident that Wild Pumpkin will bring the message of this brand to licensees and retailers alike,” says Toei Animation President and COO Kanji Kazahaya.


    Digimon Data Squad is about the adventures of Marcus Damon, a 14-year-old boy who meets Agumon. Together, they fight the Digimon from the digital world whose plans are to harm the human race.

  • Nickelodeon to telecast ‘The Penguins of Madagascar’ from 28 March

    NEW DELHI: Nickelodeon is set to telecast The Penguins of Madagascar



    from 28 March onwards.


    The first episode will be aired at 9.30 pm following Nickelodeon’s 22nd Annual Kids’ Choice Awards. Thereafter, the channel will telecast the series at 8 pm every Monday from 30 March onwards for two weeks. Starting from 18 April, the series will be aired every Saturday at 10 pm.


    Says Nickelodeon and MTVN Kids and Family Group president-animation Brown Johnson, “The Penguins are four characters on a mission without permission. Great comedy meets glorious CG- animation in this new Nick series.”


    The series features new adventures of Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private, the four penguins from Madagascar, who take command at their Central Park Zoo home.


    The launch of the show will be supported by TurboNick, the network’s broadband player that streams instant replays of episodes post premiere, as well as short form content.


    Meanwhile, Nick.com will launch The Penguins of Madagascar-themed mini site Nick.com/penguins, which will feature a personality quiz, e-cards, downloads, printables and messages boards.


    The series is co-produced with DreamWorks Animation SKG.

  • Disney XD to telecast new Spiderman Series from 23 March

    MUMBAI: Disney XD, formerly known as Jetix, is set to premier a the second season of The Spectacular Spiderman on 23 March with three back-to-back episodes.


    To be telecast at 7.30 pm every Monday, the series is based on Marvel Entertainment‘s popular superhero Spiderman and has been produced by Culver Entertainment.


    The series follows Spiderman in his junior years of high school, where he struggles to conceal his secret identity while fighting off the villains.


    With the second season, The Spectacular Spiderman now joins Batman and Superman on the Disney XD schedule.

  • Nickelodeon Africa expands to various platforms







    MUMBAI: Kids channel Nickelodeon is set to be available on various platforms in Africa that include the internet and licensing and merchandising.

    The channel will launch a Nickelodeon Africa website nickelodeonafrica.com, later this month. Targeted at kids between 2-14 years, the website will feature a host of interactive elements such as games and downloads, programming news and community areas.

     


    Next on the anvil is the launch of Nickelodeon‘s mobile TV channel through the Vodacom network in Nigeria, South Africa and Tanzania. The channel will host a range of Nickelodeon‘s most popular shows on a weekly basis.


    Southern African licensing agency, Character Licensing & Marketing, will introduce consumer products licensing programmes for Spongebob, Squarepants and Dora The Explorer to expand the channel‘s reach in the region. The licensing programs will focus on toys, gifts, apparel, house-wares and home entertainment.

  • ‘Sid the Science Kid’ chooses broadcast partners to expand reach













    MUMBAI: The Jim Henson Company has finalised a new slate of broadcast deals for its animated pre-school property Sid the Science Kid in a bid to expand the series‘ reach worldwide.


    To broaden reach in Europe, the company has partnered with French educational public broadcaster France 5 and Portugal public broadcaster RTP while in Spain, it has joined hands with Selecta Vision. Selecta Vision will handle all broadcast sales and licensing and merchandising activities for the series in this territory.





    In the Middle East, the series has been licensed to pan regional broadcaster Al Jazeera, and it has gone to Noga Communications in Israel.


    Similarly, the series has been licensed to Exim Licensing in Mexico to handle all broadcast sales and licensing and merchandising activity in the territory.


    The series has also been licensed to the American Forces Network for broadcasting outside the US.


    Sid the Science Kid, is The Jim Henson Company‘s first series for PBS (pre-school property) kids that features a practical in-school science curriculum and uses music and humor to celebrate children‘s natural curiosity about science in everyday life.
