  • Tokyo Disneyland unveils new ride based on Monsters Inc

    MUMBAI: Tokyo Disneyland has unveiled its new ride, ‘Monsters Inc Ride and Go Seek!‘ which is based on Walt Disney‘s animation blockbuster Monsters Inc.


    To be made on an estimated budget of approximately $139 million, the four-minute ride is the first addition to the Tokyo Bay area theme park after a period of five years.


    The last addition to the theme park was Buzz Lightyear‘s Astro Blasters that was introduced in 2004 and was based on Disney-Pixar‘s Toy Story.


    Located at the park‘s Tomorrow Land, visitors are taken to the world of monsters in a tram during the course of the ride.


    In the film Monsters Inc, monsters generate power from the screams of frightened children in the city ‘Monstropolis‘ while later they generate power using children‘s laughter.


     

  • Funskool launches new range of toys & games based on animated characters

    NEW DELHI: Funskool India, a joint venture between MRF Tyre and Hasbro Inc, has launched its new range of toys and games for kids based on various animated characters including Doraemon and Batman.

    Said Funskool India general manager– sales and marketing R Jeswant, “Our latest launches are in keeping with our commitment to provide innovative and quality toys for children. We seek to provide a constructive engagement for kids this summer with our new range of toys, games and puzzles.”


    The range of toys and games include Wonder World Series – Fun on The Beach, Tropical Friends, The Game of Cricket, Doraemon Labyrinth Game and Mahawar. The puzzles are based on Batman-Full Throttle 4, Doraemon 4 and Walk N Drive Truck.


    Meanwhile, the company has also introduced a special board game – The Game of Cricket based on the Indian Premier League. The game allows kids to play test matches, ODIs and 20-20 series indoor.

  • Nick lines up an array programmes to celebrate Spongebob Squarepants’ 10th anniversary

    NEW DELHI: Kids entertainment channel Nickelodeon has lined up an array of programmes in April to celebrate Spongebob Squarepants‘ 10th anniversary.

    While the channel will telecast the Spongebob Squarepants movieAtlantis Squarepantis on 19 April at 11 am, it will also roll out new new episodes of the same during the month. These episodes include The Big Wave, Nicktoons – Chibi Maruko Chan and Super Hero Ninja Hattori.


    Meanwhile, Nick is already running the ‘PickNick‘ contest every Sunday between 4 pm to 6 pm wherein kid‘s need to choose their favourite show or movie wherein the best chosen show or film will then be played on the channel.

  • Spacetoon launches its first animation IP with Fafa & Juno

    MUMBAI: Kids Animation India (KAI), the publishing and merchandising division of Spacetoon India, has rolled out its first intellectual property, Fafa & Juno.

    KAI will initially market the cartoon characters through publishing, licensing and merchandising and also through event promotions. The merchandising products will comprise school bags, art sets, stationary, toys and home furnishing.












     

    Says Spacetoon-South Asia MD and CEO Rajiv Sangari, “KAI will invest an estimated amount of Rs 40-50 million in the publishing, and licensing and merchandising process of Fafa & Juno till April FY10. We expect to generate revenues of approximately Rs 30-40 million in FY10.”


    In a bid to create touch points for its newly created properties, KAI is targeting about 150 retail outlets within the next 45 days and about 8000 mom and pop stores by the end of this year.



    “We are also rolling out 31 publishing titles today based on our new IP properties and plan to unveil 70 titles more by 2009-end,” avers Sangari.


    “We will also be unveiling a television series based on Fafa & Juno by April 2010. The series is currently under the pre-production stage,” Sanghari quips.

  • Hungama to treat ‘Hungamalogy’ winners with exclusive preview of Doraemon

    MUMBAI: Earlier this year, Hungama TV had held the ‘wacky‘ on-air contest Hungamalogy with an aim to help kids relieve exam stress. And now, as part of its summer initiative, the channel will tour Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Ahmedabad to treat the ‘Hungamalogy‘ winners with an exclusive preview of Doraemon on the big screen along with Doraemon himself.

    Meanwhile, the channel has also rolled out three new programming bands to engage viewers through content classification.


    As reported earlier by Indiantelevision.com, the three new bands will be called ‘Trouble Soda‘, ‘Fun Gas‘ and ‘Dum Powder‘.


    While the ‘Trouble Soda‘ band will air the new seasons of Doraemon and Ninjaboy Rantaro, ‘Fun Gas‘ will launch comedy show Asari Chan along with the new season of Kiteretsu and Shinchan. Under the band ‘Dum Powder‘, the channel will air the action adventure series such as Power Rangers, Dharamveer and Hatim.


    Says Walt Disney Television International India Associate Director programming Devika Prabhu, “Summer is the most exciting time not only for kids but also for us. The innovative programming bands will further strengthen the unique mad fun environment on the channel and help kids enjoy their summer vacations.”

  • Nickelodeon to celebrate Earth Day with green-theme

    MUMBAI: Nickelodeon has planned a line up of eco-friendly programming and off-channel initiatives to celebrate Earth Day on 22 April. The channel will air new ‘green-themed‘ episodes of hit tween shows iCarly and True Jackson, VP while select preschool series will air on Nickelodeon and Noggin throughout the day.


    Nickelodeon will also unveil ‘The Big Green Help‘ grants programme to support schools and local organisations with sustainability projects, and offer kids the opportunity to take environmental action with more than 500 local grassroot Earth Day events. The efforts are part of Nickelodeon‘s ‘The Big Green Help‘ campaign – a multiplatform, global pro-social initiative designed to empower kids to take action on the environment and connect them to energy saving and earth-friendly activities in their everyday lives.


    “On Earth Day, we are using the power of our brand to connect kids to an issue of importance to them,” said Nickelodeon Kids and Family Group EVP public affairs Marva Smalls.


    “By working with our partners, and through initiatives like our new grants programme, we are providing them with tools and resources to help them be better environmental custodians,” Smalls added.

  • Cartoon Network lines up new shows for APac region

    NEW DELHI: Kids entertainment channel Cartoon Network has unveiled an array of shows for its viewers in the Asia Pacific region.


    The list includes shows such as Jimmy Two Shoes, Matt‘s Monsters, L.O.S.E., Creep School, along with the second season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and The Garfield Show.


    Says Turner Entertainment Networks Asia VP-content Mark Eyers, “We are always looking for content that is smart, clever, witty, sharp and funny. These new cartoons are sure to hit the mark with kids of all ages and across the Asia-Pacific region.”


    Cartoon Network Studios, meanwhile, is prepping up more content of Ben 10, including a new live-action TV movieBen 10: Alien Swarm, along with other new series such as Generator Rex, Sym-Biotic Titan, Adventure Time with Finn and Jake.

  • Spacetoon kids TV firms up summer lineup with 8 new shows

    MUMBAI: Spacetoon Kids TV, the recently launched kids‘ edutainment channel, is firming up its summer programming line up with eight new shows in a bid to expand its viewership base. These shows include Sonic The Hedgehog, Kitty‘s Paradise, Offside, Action Man, The Great Book of Nature, Bump in The Night, Wish Kid and Inspector Fabre.

    The shows will be a mix of adventure, action, comedy and sports and will aim at presenting distinctive features with an educative value.

    In Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic is the fearless leader amongst a group of freedom fighters who attempts to free the citizens of Mobius from the tyranny of the evil Dr Robotnik.


    Kitty‘s Paradise: Girl‘s Planet revolves around Hello Kitty. Hello Kitty lives in London with her parents and her twin sister, Mimi. These third graders have lots of friends at school and more often than not it‘s Hello Kitty who leads the group. Usually they all end up learning important lessons during their adventures.


    Offside: Sports Planet is a youth drama with Samuel as the central character, who is targeting National Soccer Championship with his companions – Rocky and Martin.


    Action Man is a youth-based action series wherein Action Man fights crime with the help of his elite multinational task force.


    Composed of non-sequential episodes that is hosted by a bear, The Great Book of Nature: Adventure Planet features various kinds of creatures, such as fish, insects and birds, while depicting their different habitats. At the end of each episode, the audience is treated to instructive sets of questions and answers that teach young viewers about a given creature‘s different behaviors.






    Bump in the Night revolves around three characters and their misadventures. They are Mr Farfu, a small green purple warded monster living under the bed of a ten year old boy, his best friends Dadoosh, a blue monster that lives in the bathroom‘s toilet tank; and Lily, a Frankenstein‘s monster-like rag doll belonging to the boy‘s sister.


    Wish kid is about Nick. When a shooting star from outer space blazes into the room of Nick, an adventurous nine year-old kid, he is granted one wish a week. The only problem is he never knows exactly when the wish is going to run out – leaving him in some wild predicaments, launching him from one adventure to another.


    Inspector Fabre is inspired by “the Diary of Insects” written by Jean Henri Fabre, a French entomologist and author in the 19th Century. In his original works, Mr. Fabre vividly described the life of insects. In this series all the insects and bugs have been personified and drawn into animated characters.

  • Walt Disney, Hk Disneyland Resort renew alliance with Visa

    MUMBAI: The Walt Disney Company (Asia Pacific) and Hong Kong Disneyland have renewed their alliance with Visa.


    Under the fresh contract, Visa will continue to be the “official card of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort”. Additionally, the new agreement will further extend to other businesses including Studio Entertainment (Walt Disney Pictures, Walt Disney Music Group, Disney Theatrical Productions), Disney Interactive Media Group and Disney Consumer Products.


    It will also allow Visa to have the exclusive right to first negotiations on sponsorship, promotional and marketing opportunities that involve Disney-branded initiatives.


    The deal will cover Asia Pacific regions (excluding Japan) and represents an extension of the original 2005 agreement. Effective immediately, the deal will be in place until 2014.


    Visa will extend promotional offers at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort to its cardholders through selected card-issuing banks, including special dining and accommodation offers at Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel and Disney’s Hollywood Hotel. It will also give away special merchandise offers at the Resort.


    “The renewed corporate alliance relationship between Disney and Visa supports broad and comprehensive integrated marketing opportunities for Visa and its 600 Asia Pacific client banks and Hong Kong Disneyland, Disney‘s movies, live entertainment shows, interactive media, and consumer retail promotions,” said The Walt Disney Company senior vice president – corporate alliances Lawrence Aldridge.



    “With this alliance, we are able to increase the value we bring to our client banks to help them cater to their Visa cardholders and we hope that Visa cardholders across the region will take advantage of the deals and services that have been and will be made available to them,” added Visa general manager – marketing – Asia Pacific Rajiv Kapoor.

  • Disney Channel’s Hanna Montana heads for a new season on 10 April

    MUMBAI: Come 10 April and Disney Channel will roll out the third season of its most popular franchise Hannah Montana.













    Since its launch on Disney Channel, Hannah Montana has served as the brand building property for the channel globally, cutting through all age groups.

    Disney Consumer Products will have offerings including home furnishings, personal care, toys and role play sets to promote the franchise. Meanwhile, Disney Publishing Worldwide has already launched several Hannah Montana titles including – Journals: Hannah‘s Book of Secrets, The Best of Hannah Montana along with activity books such as the Hannah Montana poster and sticker books.


    Disney will also utilize its interactive platform for enhanced engagements of the property with the viewers. Disney Interactive Media Group will provide a Hannah Montana digital experience through downloads, wallpapers, games, themes, ring tones and caller back tunes.


    For the I-phone customers, Hannah Montana‘s ‘cover styler‘ application can be downloaded for free from the applications store. Viewers will also have access to an all new mini sites sporting Hannah‘s new look, new games and downloadables along with a ‘cover styler‘ application on the Disney Channel site in May.
