  • CBBC‘s Cartoon Works to become new destination for short-form content

    MUMBAI: UK Pubcaster the BBC‘s children‘s channel CBBC is expanding Cartoon Works, the online portal, with an aim to make it a new destination to premi?re short-form content from the UK animation industry.

    CBBC has also commissioned the brand new animation series Muddle Earth that will be aired in 2010.


    Shaun The Sheep, meanwhile, will return to the screen this autumn in a series of new exploits.


    Says CBBC head of drama, animation and acquisition Steven Andrew, “CBBC is commissioning Muddle Earth, a mysterious and epic animated tale, as well as returning to the adventures of Shaun in a new series. We are also excited to expand Cartoon Works which will act as a creative cartoon playground for the UK animation industry.”

  • Tricon extends kids’ offerings

    MUMBAI: Tricon Films & Television, which forayed into children‘s programming with The Next Star, has extended its entertainment slate for kids and families with new acquisitions.
    The new catalogue holds a teen-sketch show called The Paul Telner Project. The 10×30-minute series, produced by Let it Out Entertainment, is a fresh take on the traditional prank show. Also new to the Tricon portfolio is the festive family musical Christmas Dreams. Produced by Homer and Weiser Productions for CBC Canada, Christmas Dreams is an hour-long film embedded with fun-filled songs.

    Said Tricon VP distribution and development Carrie Mudd, “We are expanding our slate for this market with some unique new shows. The Paul Telner Project is fast-paced and hugely entertaining, skewing to the older tween and teen bracket. Christmas Dreams is full of traditional winter magic and is a great co-viewing opportunity for the whole family to enjoy.”

  • Nickelodeon partners SSA to set up outdoor theme park in New Orleans






    MUMBAI: Kids entertainment channel Nickelodeon has partnered with Southern Star Amusement (SSA) to build its first-ever outdoor theme park in New Orleans.












    The destination


    is scheduled to open by 2010-end and will be built on a 65-acre theme park space, formerly home to Jazzland/Six Flags.


    While Nickelodeon will receive a licensing fee as part of the agreement, the city of New Orleans will retain a leasing arrangement with Southern Star Amusements. The rebuilding of the park will be funded partially by GO Zone bonds and by private investors.
    Nickelodeon‘s venture into the travel and leisure space already includes the Nickelodeon Family Suites in Orlando, Florida, and the Nickelodeon Family Cruise with Royal Caribbean.

  • Nick to premiere ‘Oggy and the Cockroaches’ on 24 August












    MUMBAI: Kids entertainment channel Nick is set to premiere ‘Oggy and the Cockroaches‘ on 24 August.

    The show will be aired from Monday to Friday at 5:30 pm.


    Oggy & the Cockroaches is a slapstick comedy that follows the classic tradition of ‘the great chase‘.




    The show is about Oggy- content, lazy and a very tender fat blue cat who would usually spend his days watching TV and cooking, if it weren‘t for the three pesky cockroaches in the household – Joey, Dee Dee and Marky

  • Nick/Viacom Consumer Products introduces ‘Mad Style By True Jackson’

    MUMBAI: Nickelodeon/Viacom Consumer Products (NVCP) has launched new apparel and accessories line inspired by Nickelodeon‘s popular live-action series, True Jackson.













    Christened as Mad Style by True Jackson, the new line has been designed by L‘Koral president and CEO Jane Siskin and is available exclusively at Walmart stores. Every item retails at approximately $14.




    Says NVCP senior VP, domestic licensing Hal Snik, “The Mad Style line embodies the spirit of the show and the clothes are comfortable and affordable enough so that girls can follow the trends or create a look totally in their own style.”

  • Kitric Kerns to helm Cartoon Network Digital

    MUMBAI: Kitric Kerns will soon take over as VP and executive producer for Cartoon Network Digital.













    Kerns will oversee the overall strategy and development of content for CartoonNetwork.com that averages more than 5 million unique users per month in the U.S.




    Kerns was last with Walt Disney Company where he was director of digital media at ABC Daytime/SOAPnet. His duty was to oversee content strategy for SOAPnet.com, The View and ABC Daytime websites.

  • Cartoon Network partners with Sri Lanka’s Art Television

    MUMBAI: Expanding its footprint in South Asia, Turner International has launched a dedicated one-hour programming block of its leading kids’ channel Cartoon Network on Atr Television, Sri Lanka’s terrestrial English channel.


    From 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm everyday, kids in Sri Lanka can now enjoy the opportunity to experience Cartoon Network’s cartoons, which include Dexter’s Laboratory, Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, Johnny Bravo, Ed, Ed N Eddy and Courage the Cowardly Dog.


    Turner International India Private Limited (TIIPL) VP, deputy GM– distribution and business operations South Asia Siddharth Jain said, “Sri Lanka is an extremely important market for Turner International. The special Cartoon Network programming block will be promoted by a hi-decibel marketing campaign that will cover both above-the-line and below-the-line activities.


    Art Television claims to be the only Channel in Sri Lanka to operate 24 hours and currently showcases 15 hours of CNN daily. Its partnership with Turner International dates back to 1995 when the channel was one of the first in the South East Asian region to introduce CNN on terrestrial television.

  • Nick India launches online games












    MUMBAI: Keeping in mind its diverse viewers, Nick India has launched online games that it says offer not only adventure and entertainment, but a whole lot of fun.



    The gaming-geeks could choose from bursting bubbles with Sponge Bob in bubble burst or save him from the Bubble Poppin’ Boys in Who Bob. The girls could play ‘Mix’ or ‘match’ in ‘Dress Up’ with ‘Magenta’ and ‘Blue’.


    The boys could also gear up to fight against fire balls and enemy attacks and save their fortress in ‘Fortress Fight 2’. All of these are now available on www.nickindia.com.


    Nick India claims that its site clocks 700,000 page views. Nick India has a library of 100 and more games to choose from and be a part of all the action with Nick characters including Ninja Hattori, SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora.

  • Cartoon Network approves two original comedy animated series

    MUMBAI: Cartoon Network has given a nod for two original comedy animated series – Regular Show and Horrorbots.













    The launch dates of the two shows are, however, yet to be announced.


    Regular Show revolves around two best friends who spend their days entertaining themselves by any possible means much to the displeasure of their Boss.




    Horrorbots tells the story of ‘Thrasher‘ and ‘Blastus‘, two outsider teenage droids who are only slightly less horrific than the ultra-powerful robots that populate their planet, Killglobe.


    Also, the channel is producing additional episodes of The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack. With this the total number of half-hour episodes in the series will be 46.


    Cartoon Network has ordered additional script for the second season of Adventure Time which will be aired in 2010.

  • Disney Channel to premiere ‘Where is Warehouse Mouse?’ on 24 August













    MUMBAI: Disney Channel is set to premiere Where is Warehouse Mouse? on 24 August.


    Where is Warehouse Mouse? is a short-form series that is based on the character from the hit series, Imagination Movers.


    The series comprises four episodes namely Clock Shock, Hammock Time, Going Bananas and Fly Away.




    While Clock Shock will be aired at 8.25 am, Hammock Time will be telecast at 8.55 am. The channel, meanwhile, will air Going Bananas at 9.25 am and Fly Away at 9.55 am.


    Each episode of Where is Warehouse Mouse? finds ‘Warehouse Mouse‘ with a problem that requires a creative solution. Some of his adventures include trying to peel a banana, get an empty can into a large recycling bin and tackle a cuckoo clock that is keeping him awake.
