PARIS: TV Asahi is throwing a Dorayaki Party at Mipcom on 14 October to celebrate the return of Doraemon, Japan’s time-travelling robotic cat, to French screens after a 10-year hiatus. Voice actors Emmanuel Curtil and Brigitte Lecordier will dish behind-the-scenes stories about reviving the beloved animation series at the Cannes event.

The party marks the launch of 13 freshly dubbed episodes hitting French audiences from 3 October—the first French-language version since 2015. The new season drops first on YouTube France before rolling out across Anime Digital Network, Amazon Prime Video and Pluto TV.

Paris-based distributor Soupir is orchestrating the multi-platform push, backed by a promotional blitz dubbed Bonjour Doraemon featuring voice cast videos, YouTube Shorts and exclusive previews.

Curtil—the French voice of Jim Carrey and Disney’s Goofy—leads the cast as Doraemon. He’s joined by Lecordier, famous for voicing Son Goku in Dragon Ball, who plays Nobita Nobi and co-directs the dubbing alongside Louis Lecordier.

“I hadn’t come across Doraemon before, but I had the pleasure of dubbing it alongside my long-time friend and collaborator, Brigitte Lecordier,” says Curtil. “I am very happy to bring this cheerful and intrepid little hero to life.”

Lecordier calls the blue cat “a legendary figure throughout the world of animation” and says she feels “so lucky” to work on the series.

Created by Fujiko F. Fujio, Doraemon debuted as manga in 1970 and hit Japanese television in 1979. The series has since spawned over 2,000 episodes and become a cultural juggernaut across Asia.

TV Asahi head of animation sales and development Maiko Sumida says Japan and France share “a deep cultural affinity.”

Soupir founder Charles Courcier, reckons the new dub will help Doraemon become “as beloved in France as it is around the world.”

Chhota Bheem maker calls on fresh voices to script big kids’ adventures

MUMBAI: Move over capes and crowns, the new heroes of kids’ TV might just be holding pens, not swords. Green Gold Animation, the studio that gave India its most famous toon icon Chhota Bheem, has opened a nationwide hunt for aspiring writers to help script its next big animated adventure. The initiative, starting 1 September 2025, invites early-career writers from every corner of India students, aspiring screenwriters, and first-timers with a flair for children’s stories. Experience in animation isn’t a prerequisite; what matters most is an ear for how kids speak, laugh, and dream today.

Selected participants will get paid collaborations with Green Gold’s development team, working hand-in-hand with writers, animators, producers, and directors. They’ll also receive mentorship from seasoned professionals inside the studio, an industry break that could see their words come to life on screen.

“For nearly two decades, our characters have grown up with India’s children,” said Green Gold Animation founder and CEO Rajiv Chilaka. “But kids’ stories evolve with every new generation. Today’s children are curious, expressive, and connected, and we want stories that reflect that shift. With this initiative, we’re opening the door to new voices who can make kids laugh, think, and see themselves on screen.”

The contest will be conducted virtually, making it accessible to storytellers nationwide. Interested participants can write to careers@greengold.tv to register. Once signed up, they’ll receive a creative brief setting out the direction of the upcoming show.

Green Gold, which has shaped India’s animation landscape with Chhota Bheem and a host of other beloved characters, is framing this as more than a talent drive, it’s about building a pipeline for inclusive, future-facing storytelling. For the next generation of creators, this could be the chance to script their own fairy-tale beginning.

  • Nick and Sonic join PM Modi in Vizag to promote yoga for children

Nick and Sonic join PM Modi in Vizag to promote yoga for children

MUMBAI: What do Chikoo, Bunty, Bittu, and over 3 lakh people have in common? On 21 June in Vizag, they all bent it like Bhujangasana at one of the country’s largest Yoga Day celebrations. India’s favourite kids’ entertainment channels, Nick and Sonic, traded cartoons for calming breaths as they joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry of AYUSH, and a sea of yoga enthusiasts at R.K. Beach, Vizag. With toons like Nick’s Chikoo and Bunty and Sonic’s Bittu performing yoga on-ground, the channels brought their flagship wellness campaign Yogasehihoga to life proving that health and humour can share the same mat.

The event, also graced by union ministers, CM N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM K. Pawan Kalyan, and civil aviation minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu, saw PM Modi call yoga “the pause button humanity needs to breathe, balance, and become whole again.”

The Nick and Sonic mascots more often found caught in madcap adventures guided children through basic asanas, encouraging them to make wellness a fun habit. Their mission: making yoga as cool as cartoons.

This isn’t their first yogic rodeo. In 2019, Motlu and Patlu performed yoga with the PM in Ranchi. In Mumbai, the duo co-hosted Yoga by the Bay, and during the pandemic, the network rolled out digital yoga sessions for kids across the country.

From reaching millions online to receiving thousands of contest entries, Nick and Sonic’s campaigns continue to make yoga accessible, exciting, and age-appropriate ensuring every child learns to stretch, breathe, and maybe even touch their toes without losing their smile.

After all, wellness isn’t just for grown-ups with calendars, it’s also for kids with cartoons.
