    MUMBAI: New daily soap Gokuldhamchi Duniyadari is all set to entertain the masses. The show will premiere on 24 December, 2019.     South Korea sees growth in pay TV numbers

    MUMBAI: This is one market that  is bucking the OTT trend and pay TV is actually looking strong here. South Korea has seen a growth in its pay TV subscriber base to 33 million in the first six months of the year, up 540,000 or 1.67 per cent over the second half of last year. The numbers include subscribers to system operators, satellite services and IPTV services. The most buoyant of these three has been IPTV services.

    Amongst the leaders figure fixed-line and telco services provider KT with a market share of over 21.4 percent or just under 7.1 million subscribers, followed by SK Broadband with 14.7 percent and LG Uplus with 12.4 percent. These three offer IPTV services to their subscribers and have been showing healthy growth.

    At the No 4 and No 5 spots are CJ Hello and KT Skylife with market shares of 12.3 percent and 9.9 percent, respectively.

    The division between IPTV, system operators, and satellite TV is 47.6 percent, or 16 million people; 41.5 percent and 9.9 per cent respectively.

    MUMBAI: Recently, many consumers from the south market have complained of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) channels blackout on social media platforms. In thewake of the controversy, ZEEL has clarified that all of its television channels in Tamil Nadu are fully operational across leading cable and DTH operators, including Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation Ltd., SCV and V K Digital.

    The broadcaster also clarified that channels are also available across all leading DTH operators viz. Airtel Digital TV, Tata Sky, Dish TV, d2h, and Sun Direct and there has been no change in the consumer price (MRP) of the individual channels or channel packs whatsoever. Zee Prime Tamil SD pack is priced at Rs 10 only.

    It has also been mentioned that ZEEL has issued all the required communications to its esteemed viewers informing and urging them to approach their respective cable operators with a request to reactivate the channels, for which they have already paid Rs 10, as part of their monthly subscription.

    ZEEL had received several complaints and requests through emails and social media platforms, wherein the consumers mentioned that their cable operators have removed the ZEE Bouquet from their channel packs, without any communication or reason.

    MUMBAI:  Adding another feather to its cap, Star Plus’ new show Yehh Jadu Hai Jinn Ka has topped the viewership charts across all shows on television, as per BARC India’s week 50 ratings.

    Within a short span of nine weeks of its launch, the show has garnered a dedicated fan following especially amongst younger women, who have loved the narrative, characters depicted in the show.

    Producer Gul Khan of 4 Lions Films said, “We are thrilled that our show has reached the top. We risked a clutter-breaking format that has a mix of love-story and visual-effects. This kind of audience response encourages us to do even better.”

    “Having mounted the show on a lavish scale, the team is heavily invested in technology and music which has resonated beautifully with our viewers,” Khan added.

    The show has been the fastest one to reach the number one spot amongst fictions shows in 2019 with around 28 million total impressions.

    The star-cast of the show comprising Vikram Singh Chauhan, Aditi Sharma, Smita Bansal along with others, has won the adulation of audiences from all over.

    MUMBAI: Neela Film Productions has announced the introduction of its flagship TV show – Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah in Marathi. To be aired from the last week of December 2019 on Fakt Marathi channel as ‘Gokuldhamchi Duniyadari’, the show will be a dubbed version of the original.  

    On the back of its popularity in the States of Maharashtra and Goa, the production house aims to offer Marathi speaking audiences a flavour of India’s most loved comedy show in the regional dialect. Despite the language switch, the family oriented show will retain all aspects of comedy and entertainment as is in its original presentation. Gokuldhamchi Duniyadari will be telecast every day at 9pm from Monday to Saturday. 

    Fakt Marathi is a 24/7 Marathi General Entertainment Channel owned by Mumbai based firm Enterr10 Television Private Limited and commands top viewership across urban and rural households.     MUMBAI: Star India today issued its perspective in the form of a release on the exit of Sushant Singh as its anchor of the show Savdhaan India. Singh has raised doubts about his being evicted from the crime show because he participated in rallies against the Citizenship Amendment Act or because of budgetary constraints. 

    The release goes as follows:

    “Savdhaan India has frequently experimented with formats and has given a platform to different presenters in its 7 year journey. The existing presenter was brought back in October, 2019, with the contract ending in January, 2020. The next format of Savdhaan India did not require a presenter, and hence a new contract was not signed. The channel has no political views, nor does it seek to influence the political views of its contracted talent.”

    Endemol Shine India to create original series on ‘Trial By Fire: The Tragic Tale of the Uphaar Fire Tragedy’

    MUMBAI: Endemol Shine India today announced that they will be creating an original series based on Neelam and Shekhar Krishnamoorthy’s book Trial By Fire: The Tragic Tale of the Uphaar Fire Tragedy. The series will be helmed by Prashant Nair whose 2015 film, ’Umrika’, is the only Indian feature film to ever win an award at the Sundance Film Festival and who recently directed ‘Made in Heaven’. Mumbai-based company- The Story Ink put together the project and its founder Sidharth Jain will be a producer on the series.

    A first-hand account of the Uphaar Cinema fire in Delhi in 1997, the book has been written by Neelam and Shekhar Krishnamoorthy who fought for justice for 19 years for their children, Unnati and Ujjwal, who were amongst the 59 people killed in the incident. The book, written in the voice of Neelam, follows the lives of the couple after the Uphaar tragedy as they wage a never-ending battle against the owners of the cinema. In their quest to get justice for the Uphaar victims, the Krishnamoorthy’s end up playing different roles researchers, legal assistants to their attorney and, finally, activists. The book also glimpses into their moments of weakness, their anguish, anger and mourning and most importantly their persistence.  Trial by Fire also makes a strong argument that public spaces are still vulnerable to such tragedies and that another Uphaar could happen today.

At the heart of this story is the Krishnamoorthys’ determination to fight in memory of their children and lays bare their personal loss and struggle for closure. The loss of a child and the anguish of the parents who are fighting for justice on behalf of their children are difficult emotions and Prashant Nair was the perfect choice to bring this authentic, sensitive and hard-hitting real-life tragedy to screen.”

Fifty-nine people lost their lives that day because the institutions we rely on for our safety and well-being every day failed across the board. The Krishnamoorthys’ wrote their book because they wanted to make sure this never happens again and I’m honored they and Endemol Shine have entrusted me with the responsibility of bringing this devastating story to screen.” said Prashant Nair, director and showrunner for Trial by Fire.

    Authors and parents Neelam and Shekhar Krishnamoorthy said, "When we first met Sidharth for taking our story to screen, we were certain that he would find the right team to tell this story. We look forward to collaborating with Endemol Shine India, The Story Ink and Prashant for bringing to screen our two-decade old battle. We hope that this series is an apt ode to our children and the fifty-seven other victims, as it brings to light to a wider audience the horror of the Uphaar Cinema fire and our struggle for Justice.”

    Endemol Shine India is currently creating Bombay Begums –- written and directed by Alankrita Shrivastava for Netflix in India. The company is also joining forces with Shekhar Kapur and UK production company Tiger Aspect to develop The Ibis Trilogy for the international market.
