    MUMBAI: Extremely sad news for the the Indian television industry. Our sister website Tellychakkar.com has learnt that television actress (Balika Vadhu fame) Pratyusha Banerjee attempted suicide earlier in the day today (1 April 2016) and was rushed to Kokilaben Hospital, where she was admitted and later pronounced dead.

    MUMBAI: Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (Zeel)  announced that its 24×7 general entertainment channel in Indonesia Zee Hiburan  has successfully completed a year. The channel caters to the mainstream Indonesian audiences with a mix of popular Indian serials, Bollywood movies, shows, cookery programmes, etc., dubbed in Bahasa Indonesia.

    Speaking on the channel’s first anniversary, Zeel Asia Pacific business head Sushruta Samanta said, “The success of Zee Hiburan has been simply stupendous. The whole-hearted acceptance of Indian content in Indonesia has helped the channel reach over 1.4 million (14 lakh) pay TV viewers within a year of its launch. We look forward to build on this success and achieve greater heights in the future. As a part of its one-year celebrations, Zee Hiburan will add the popular drama series, Punar Vivah as well as kids’ content to its existing offerings.”

    Zee Hiburan was launched on 21 March 2015 in Indonesia as a GEC with popular Indian series such as Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke, Kumkum Bhagya, Qubool Hai, Jab Love Hua, Rab Se Sona Ishq, Alladin,Ramayan, Khana Khazana and Fear Files. The channel was positioned as ‘Colour Your Life’, showcasing every emotion in the most colourful fashion. Inspired from paper puppets and paper quilling art forms, the channel packaging was artistically designed to merge the Indonesian and Indian cultures.

    In September 2015, Zee Hiburan channel added the popular comedy show Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, and period dramas, Jodha Akbar and Razia Sultan in its programme lineup The channel is currently available on 5 platforms in Indonesia viz. ICTA, K Vision, Orange TV, First Media and Dili Timor Leste ETO Telko.

    Stand up comic Tushar Singh to produce and host ‘Peacock Comedy’

    MUMBAI: Stand up comedy in India is going through an amazing revolution. In 2009 there were only a handful of active comedians in the country with only a couple places to perform.  Since then there has been a boom in the number of comedians, venues and audience members. Now for the first time Rooftop Comedy in association with Audible.com is producing the first live audio comedy album to be released for an International audience, tapping into the top comedians India has to offer.  

    Producing and hosting these shows is Tushar Singh, a stand up comedian, host and producer from Los Angeles, CA who has recently moved to Mumbai to be part of the scene.  Since starting in New York in 2005, he has performed at various clubs, colleges, festivals and private shows across the country.  

    Upon moving to Los Angeles in 2012, Tushar co-created Unnecessary Evil, a weekly stand up comedy showcase at the Westside Comedy Theatre in Santa Monica. In May of 2015 he was featured on the Fox television show Laughs with a performance at the Hollywood Laugh Factory. He is also the subject of feature length documentary called American Hasi that explores the emerging stand up comedy scene in India. The movie is set to release in 2016.

    MUMBAI: ZEE MELT 2016 – a festival bringing together advertising, digital, marketing, emerging technologies and the media & PR industry – is to be held in August in Delhi, bringing more than 2000 creative and marketing people to discuss, inspire and learn through sharing and interaction.

    The event had been planned earlier for March, but Kyoorius has now announced that it will be held on 26 and 27 August at Hotel Pullman & Novotel in the Aerocity in the capital.

    Aerocity is a commercial complex mainly housing hotels near Terminal Three of the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

    MELT is conceptualized by Kyoorius in partnership with Zee Entertainment, Hindustan Times, GroupM, and D&AD.

    Kyoorius founder and CEO Rajesh Kejriwal said, “We didn’t want to dilute the content that we had planned for our delegates at MELT. We are known for our focus on content and we want to ensure that we deliver on our promise. That is the reason why we rescheduled our event and went back to the speakers for fresh dates. We are now ready to engage and excite and hope to have a brilliant season of sharing and collaboration.”

    MELT 2016 will consist of a range of conferences, seminars, exhibitions, showcases, workshops and networking sessions for delegates from advertising, digital, media & PR, marketing and emerging technologies by industry experts, catering to all experience levels.

    Govt partners industry bodies to curb misleading and fake ads

    New Delhi: The Department of Consumer Affairs has entered into partnership with the industry associations ASSOCHAM, CII, DICCI, FICCI and PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry to implement a six point agenda to protect the rights of consumers against misleading advertisements, fake and counterfeit products, and for effective redressal of consumer complaints.

    An MOU in this regard will be signed tomorrow in the presence of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Ram Vilas Paswan. 

    The MoU will broadly cover the collaborative programmes on developing and implementing a self-regulated code of fair business practices, establishing a consumer affairs division/vertical within the industry body, initiating advocacy action against unfair trade practices and preventing fake, counterfeit and sub-standard products and services and adoption of voluntary standards by Industry members.

    Earmarking of CSR funds for consumer awareness and protection activities, partnering with the National Consumer Helpline and State Consumer Helplines for grievance redressal; launching joint consumer awareness, education and training programmes under the “Jago Grahak Jago” will also be part of the agenda.

    A joint working group will monitor the implementation of agenda. 

    A self-regulation code of ethical business conduct and video spots on consumer advocacy by the industry bodies will also be released during the event.The joint initiatives of the government and the industry bodies will surely go a long way in protecting the interests of the consumers and will be a win-win situation for all the stakeholders. 

    The Department of Consumer Affairs is celebrating the World Consumer Rights Day 2016tomorrow. This is an annual occasion for celebration and solidarity within the International Consumer movement. The World Consumer Rights Day is an opportunity to promote and protect the basic rights of consumers.
