    MUMBAI:  The tenth Season of Bigg Boss will open its gates to the general public as contestants in its house. For the first time Bigg Boss has opened doors to the common man, Colors is inviting Indians across the globe to showcase their entertaining streak.

    The challenge is now real; some fortunate people will get an opportunity to taste the life of a Bigg Boss contestant, staying in confinement for over hundred days along with other contestants and walk away with name, fame and prize money.

    ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ to replace ‘Agent Raghav’ on weekends from 24 April

    MUMBAI: The Indian adaptation of the American TV reality series So You Think You Can Dance(SYTYCD) is all set make a debut on Indian small screens through &TV. The one hour show will launch on Sunday 24 April at 8.30 pm. SYTYCD will be a weekend show airing on Saturday andSunday.  

    The channel has roped in Chings’ Secret and Yepme.com as co-powered by sponsors and Priyagold as special partner for the show.

    As earlier reported by Indiantelevision.com, Zee Entertainment Enterprises’ Hindi GEC &TV has acquired the rights of the global dance reality format SYTYCD from Dick Clark Productions. The show will be judged by Bollywood dancing diva Madhuri Dixit, choreographer Terrence Lewis and Bosco–Caesar. Endemol Shine India will produce the India edition.

    &TV’s new offering SYTYCD will be replacing its crime fiction show Agent Raghav which was launched on 5 September,2015. Produced by Abhimanyu Singh’s Contiloe Entertainment, Agent Raghav was a finite series and completed 60 episodes on 10 April, 2016. Agent Raghav has received an Indian Telly Award for the ‘Best Thriller and Horror Show’ and was nominated for ‘Best Weekend Show’.

    On the weekend time slot SYTYCD has been pitched against Sony’s Suryaputra Karn at 8.30 pmand The Kapil Sharma Show at 9 pm which is launching on 23 April. The other shows on at the same time are Star Plus’ Silsila Pyar Kya at 8.30 pm and Diya Aur Baati Hum at 9pm, while Sab TV has Sahib Biwi Aur Boss at 8.30 pm and Tarak Mehta Ka Oolta Chasma at 9pm. Life OK  has a prime time show Comedy Classes and Supercops Vs Super villians..Shapath, while Zee TV’s Jamai Raja and Kumkum Bhagya air at the 8.30 and 9 pm time bands.

    MUMBAI: One of the world’s most popular epic, Ramayana has always been an integral part of the Indian mythology. From generations, it has been told and retold through TV series, movies, cartoons and animation films. And now, IBN7, India’s channel of impact, is all set to explore Sri Lanka with its new series – Ram Ek Khoj recalling the legends and tales associated with the island nation and the Ramayana.

    From someone claiming to have supernatural powers and being descendant of Ravana to miraculous waters of the stream next to Ashok Vatika, from the places indicating the existence of Ravana and Lord Hanuman to validating whether a city of gold actually existed, this special series will showcase these and many similar mysteries for the first time in the history of Indian news channels. The channel has lined up five one-hour episodes that attempts to discover and decode the mysteries that have been around for centuries.

    Focussing on the historical significance of places, people and culture of Sri Lanka along with the religious relevance, the IBN7 team will also connect with locals who worship Ravana as their deity.

    MUMBAI:  Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) is expanding into Germany. The Indian globally operating media company will launch a free to air channel Zee One in July 2016.  Zee One will bring high-quality films and series produced by the Indian film industry to German screens 24 hours a day. Friederike Behrends will be responsible for business operations in the German-speaking area.

    In addition, ZEEL’s own in-house entertainment and general interest programmes are to be progressively promoted.  Zee One will be available on the most important satellite and cable platforms. Zee One’s core target group will be females between the ages of 19 and 59.

    Asia TV Ltd. (Zee TV) Europe CEO Neeraj Dhingra said, “The launch of Zee One will signify ZEEL´s entry into one of the world´s most important television markets, in which the Bollywood genre is still barely represented as yet. It is therefore a major step as part of our international expansion strategy, we want to establish a lasting presence and grow in the German television market. With our highest levels of entertainment and new content, we are confident of being able to offer viewers an attractive enrichment to the existing range of television offerings.”

    Behrends said, “Bollywood content offers a much broader spectrum than is known on German television. The aim is to enhance Germany´s entertainment offerings by introducing an entirely new genre. We intend to capture the hearts of German viewers with Bollywood. We are currently engaged in intensive talks with German TV-platform operators with a view to expanding the reach as quickly as possible on a broad scale via all transmission paths.”

    Until recently, Friederike Behrends was, among other things, senior strategy advisor for the international streaming provider Magine, being responsible for its German market entry in 2014. From 2008 to 2012, she was managing director of WDR media group digital GmbH and the full-service internet agency web Colony in Cologne. She took over these positions after becoming a member of the board of directors at Bild.-T-Online.de AG & Co. KG, where she had worked since 2001. Previous career stages included a period at Grundy UFA TV Productions GmbH.

    Hungama raises $25 MN in funding round led by Xiaomi along with 3 investors

    MUMBAI:  Hungama has raised an investment of US$25M, led by smartphone company Xiaomi, along with existing investors Intel Capital, Bessemer Venture Partners and ace financial investor and Indian billionaire, Rakesh Jhunjhunwala.

    The company has constantly innovated and delivered differentiated, premium audio and video content to its consumers across web and mobile platforms, fuellng the company’s growth to becoming the largest overall digital platform in India. Hungama has over 65 million (6.5 crore) monthly active users across all its platforms, consuming a content base of over 3.5mn premium digital units across audio and video. 

    With this round of funding, Hungama will expand its content library and further invest in world class technology on its mobile app platforms Hungama Music for music and Hungama Play for premium video including movies, television and original series. Hungama will soon add over 1,500 hours of television content along with original content to its current Hungama Play offering of over 8,000 movies in English and 12 Indian languages.

    Speaking about the funding round,  Hungama Digital Media Entertainment founder and CEO Neeraj Roy said,  “India is adding 8 million (80 lakh) new consumers to the Internet each month with 90 per cent of digital consumption being driven by mobile. Young Indians love their music and movies and the mobile will be the most used screen for this generation. Content will drive the next phase of Digital India and we are delighted to partner with Xiaomi as we prepare to bring premium and original digital entertainment to a 100 million (10 crore) Indians before the end of this year.”

    Xiaomi vice president Hugo Barra said, “We think of smartphones as a platform for us to deliver Internet services, and this includes content. We are investing in Hungama not only to start integrating content into our smartphones, but also to grow together with them and deepen our understanding of the content sector in India. We have carefully selected Hungama because of what they are doing in terms of aggregating large amounts of content and delivering an amazing user experience.”

    Hungama Digital Media Entertainment chairman Rakesh Jhunjhunwala said, “I have been invested into Hungama for several years and participated in this new capital raise as I believe they have built an unique leadership position with the most compelling music and movie OTT service for South Asians globally that is ripe for growth as India will embrace broadband and 4G. We welcome Xiaomi as one of our partners.”

    Bessemer Venture Partners managing director Vishal Gupta said,  “We are excited about the leadership position that Hungama has built as being the one stop OTT platform across music, videos and movies. We are delighted to have Xiaomi as our partners and will accelerate our growth and leadership.”

    Balika Vadhu fame Pratyusha Banerjee commits suicide

    MUMBAI: Extremely sad news for the the Indian television industry. Our sister website Tellychakkar.com has learnt that television actress (Balika Vadhu fame) Pratyusha Banerjee attempted suicide earlier in the day today (1 April 2016) and was rushed to Kokilaben Hospital, where she was admitted and later pronounced dead.
