    Masterchef Canada to debut on TLC

    MUMBAI : TLC is all set to unleash a new culinary battle on TV with the launch of Masterchef Canada. MasterchefCanada will premiere on4 March and will air Friday to Sunday at 8 PM.

    The internationally acclaimed franchise will present a line-up of 50 professional and home cooks from various parts of Canada who will compete for the title of Canada’s first ever MasterChef.

    The distinguished judging panel will include celebrity chef Michael Bonacini who is the co-founder of one of Canada’s leading fine dining restaurant companies, Claudio Aprile, one of Canada’s most celebrated and visionary chefs and Alvinleung, the self-proclaimed ‘Demon Chef.’ In each episode, the judges will up the stakes by bringing in new hurdles and twists for the amateur cooks as they undergo a series of pressure tests, mystery box challenges and team challenges on their way to the top.

    In the quest to become Canada’s first-ever MasterChef, contestants will fight each other in their bid to impress three of Canada’s most popular and celebrated chefs. The judges will test contestants on their skills, creativity and their ability to withstand pressure against all odds. The series will feature contestants who will present their creatively crafted dishes with the hopes of turning their culinary dreams into reality.

    After a series of nail-biting showdowns, the series will bring the culinary battle down to two cooks in the grand finale.

    MUMBAI: History TV18 is all set to redefine factual entertainment with a one-of-its-kind local show OMG! Yeh Mera India.  The show will be showcasing ‘OMG’ facts about its people and places; all packaged into weekly half hour episodes hosted by well known actor and stand-up comedian Krushna Abhishek.

    The treatment of the show will be refreshing. It will showcase facts ranging from the world’s biggest family in Mizoram, to a ‘visa’ temple in Andhra Pradesh, to a soldier who can perform difficult yoga-postures while riding a moving motorcycle. The core idea of the show is to increase engagement and conversations among its social media community.

    Speaking on the occasion A+E Networks TV18  VP and head of marketing Sangeetha Aiyer said, “Ever since our launch, we’ve pushed the envelope on all aspects to delight the viewer and I think OMG! Yeh Mera India best epitomises our efforts.  Our main objective has been to present India – with all its vibrancy and idiosyncrasies – in a fun, relatable manner that is totally immersive for the entire family. With OMG! Yeh Mera India, we plan to create a lasting Indian franchise which is a first of sorts for our category besides- of-course bringing in more viewers and grow entire the genre.”

    As part of the initiative, History  TV18 also plans to create an engaging digital initiative to drive user-generated content on its social media ecosystem. The show will invite participation from viewers to share their stories from their neighbourhood and  the shortlisted stories will be  featured in the final episode.

    Sony BBC Earth is just an approval away: NP Singh

    MUMBAI: Sony Pictures Network’s much anticipated factual entertainment channel Sony BBC Earth is soon to launch and is just an approval away. The channel will be launched in HD.

    Speaking to Indiantelevision.com about the new launch, Sony Pictures Network (SPN) CEO N.P.Singh said, “We are ready with everything and just an approval away to launch Sony BBC Earth. It is a factual entertainment channel and BBC Earth will be the content provider. Later on, we might create original content but initially it will be BBC Earth. “

    “It will be an HD channel. 4K is gradually coming in but I think we are not yet ready. For now, we will be going with HD only,” he further added.

    In may be recalled that Multi Screen Media had joined hands with BBC Worldwide in 2015 to form the joint venture – Sony BBC Earth.

     The new channel will showcase the work of the world’s foremost factual film makers as it takes audiences on a journey of discovery. From the smallest creature under the microscope to the limitless expanses of space, the channel will bring viewers face to face with heart pounding action, mind blowing ideas and the wonders of being human.

    MUMBAI: On the second day of BBC Worldwide’s Showcase in Liverpool, BBC Worldwide Asia has inked a Video on Demand (VOD) deal with BTV, an IPTV service in South Korea provided by one of the country’s largest telco operators, SK Broadband.

    The two year deal comprises over 600 hours of content ranging from drama, factual and natural history titles.

    This is the first time SK Broadband has procured BBC dramas for their TVOD service, and the first time BBC’s programmes will be available on the service. It is also the first time SK Broadband has acquired BBC landmark natural history titles including Africa and Life Story.            

    Dramas that will be made available to BTV’s VOD subscribers include War and Peace, a modern reworking of Leo Tolstoy’s epic masterpiece following the lives of three privileged aristocrats starring Lily James, Paul Dano and James Norton; Doctor Who (S9), which sees Peter Capaldi returning alongside with Jenna Coleman and guests including Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams, after his record-breaking debut series as the Doctor. More available drama series on BTV’s VOD services will be announced later.

    BBC Worldwide in Northeast Asia general manager Soojin Chung said, “We are committed to bringing great quality programming to viewers in Korea. SK Broadband is a valued partner and we are excited to be working with BTV to bring award winning and the best programmes from the BBC to their VOD subscribers, to watch them at their convenience.”

    “We are excited to further develop our partnership with BBC Worldwide Asia to provide high quality programming to our BTV subscriber.     Discovery APAC EVP & GM – South Asia Rahul Johri quits

    MUMBAI: After a stint spanning 15 years, Discovery Networks Asia? Pacific executive vice president (EVP) and general manager (GM) South Asia Rahul Johri has stepped down from his post with effect from 24 February, 2016.

    However, Johri will continue to work with Discovery till the end of the year as senior advisor to Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific president and managing director Arthur Bastings.

    In the meanwhile, Discovery has commenced the search for Johri’s replacement. In the interim period, Bastings will additionally manage the South Asia business and day-to-day affairs from India.

    In his 15-year stint with Discovery, Johri was in charge of the South Asia region for eight years. 

    Bastings said, “We are fortunate and grateful to have had a leader of Rahul’s calibre and vision. At the helm, he created an unmatched portfolio that is immensely valued by viewers and trade partners. As we pick up where Rahul left off, India remains one of our most important growth markets. Coupled with its digital transformation and a massive population of millennials hungry for content, we are excited about the opportunities ahead and have aggressive plans to sharpen and enhance Discovery’s product palette to whet the ever-increasing appetite of this demographic.”

    Johri added, “I have had the good fortune to work in one of the finest media companies in the world. After 15 years with Discovery, I believe it is time for me to explore new opportunities. I am confident that the current management team under Arthur’s strong leadership will continue to fuel Discovery’s growth in the region.”

    Some of his achievements during his tenure include tripling the channel portfolio to 11 distinct brands, strengthening Discovery’s factual entertainment programming while developing new genres like lifestyle and kids content, launching a new Hindi entertainment channel and creating a premium viewing experience through its three high-definition channels.

    Animal Planet ropes in Sonakshi Sinha for tiger conservation campaign

    MUMBAI: Animal Planet has launched fifth annual campaign to protect and conserve the tiger population in India with actress Sonakshi Sinha as the face of the campaign.

    As part of Animal Planet’s 2016 ‘Where Tigers Rule’ campaign, the channel will offer viewers a peek into the lives, habitats, behaviour of various tiger species from 1 March every day at 9 pm.

    Tweaking a popular dialogue from one of her films for this campaign, Sinha said, “Danger se darr nahi lagta, endangered se lagta hai.”

    The campaign will bring captivating stories of tigers – their co-existence with humans, the threatening environment and the conservation efforts of leading experts from India and around the world. It has been filmed in breathtaking landscapes located in India’s forests, grasslands and protect reserves, including Madhya Pradesh’s Kanha and Bandhavgarh National Parks, Uttarakhand’s Jim Corbett National Park, Rajasthan’s Sariska and Ranthambore National Parks, West Bengal’s Sunderbans, and Maharashtra’s Tadoba.

    Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific EVP and general manager – South Asia Rahul Johri said, “My entire team feels deeply gratified that the tiger population in India has increased in the last few years. The campaign attempts to bring attention to the imminent danger to tigers and to sensitise millions of viewers through breathtaking programming.
