    DP World ILT20 Season 2 records staggering 113M reach in its opening week

    Mumbai: ZEE Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL), India’s largest content and entertainment powerhouse, has announced the viewership numbers for the opening week of DP World ILT20’s second season.

    The tournament garnered an impressive reach of 113 million in its opening week, as per data released by BARC TV+OOH. The company has reported an uptick of 12 per cent as compared to last year among males 15+ in India’s urban audiences (15+; India urban). Furthermore, the time spent on the series has surged by an impressive 32 per cent among viewers aged 15 and above in urban markets across India (15+; India urban). This substantial increase in viewing duration emphasizes the league’s ability to captivate and retain the attention of its audience, contributing to a more immersive and rewarding viewer experience.

    The franchise-style tournament with six teams and 34 matches is being played across the UAE. The league’s six franchise teams include Abu Dhabi Knight Riders (Kolkata Knight Riders), Desert Vipers (Lancer Capital), Dubai Capitals (GMR), Gulf Giants (Adani Sportsline), MI Emirates (Reliance Industries), and Sharjah Warriors (Capri Global). Some of the world’s most prominent cricket stars are slated to play in the Season 2, including David Warner, Dasun Shanaka, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Sam Billings, David Willey, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Alex Hales, Tom Curran, Rovman Powell, Shimron Hetmyer, James Vince, Ambati Rayudu, Corey Anderson, Dwayne Bravo, Trent Boult, Chris Woakes and Martin Guptill.

    Mumbai: Tennis Channel will have exclusive, live coverage of the Davis Cup World Group I Playoff between India and Pakistan 3-4 Feb. in Islamabad.  Matches will begin at 11 a.m. local time each day and can be seen throughout India on Samsung TV+.

    Tennis Channel analyst Prakash Amritraj will provide commentary during the competition, working beside announcer Geoffery Chizever.

    Amritraj competed for India’s Davis Cup team from 2003-2006 and again in 2008.  He contributed to India’s 3-2 defeat of Pakistan in a World Group I semifinal in April 2006.  Before his professional career, Amritraj was a star college player who won an NCAA national championship and tournament MVP honours with the University of Southern California in 2002.

    The winner of this weekend’s contest will advance to play a Davis Cup World Group I tie in September.  The losing side will play a World Group II tie at that time.

    “I couldn’t be more excited to be part of the Davis Cup rivalry between India and Pakistan again on Tennis Channel,” said Amritraj.  “I know from experience as a player and as a fan that the competition will be fierce and something for everyone to enjoy watching.”

    Sadak Suraksha Abhiyan 2024: “Samvedna ka Safar” – A journey towards safer roads

    Mumbai: The ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH), under the leadership of minister Nitin Gadkari, is championing the Sadak Suraksha Abhiyan 2024. This pivotal public awareness initiative, dedicated to promoting road safety, will host its second edition four-hour telethon on  3 February 2024, in Mumbai. In partnership with the SaveLIFE Foundation (SLF), a leading non-profit organization in India dedicated to improving road safety and emergency medical care in India since 2008, this Telethon will spotlight the critical importance of road safety, centring on ‘Empathy’ as its core theme.

    According to the “Road Accidents in India 2022 Report” by MoRTH, the country witnessed an average of 461 fatalities in 1,263 road crashes per day, marking an alarming 11.9 per cent increase in road crash fatalities from the previous year. Furthermore, there was a significant 15.3 per cent increase in injuries from road crashes.

    In response to these concerning statistics, this second edition of Sadak Suraksha Abhiyan will address road safety challenges through an empathetic lens, focusing on behavioural modification among Indian commuters to enhance empathy and safety on the roads.

    The initiative is built on four foundational pillars:

    ·      Respect: Advocating for life preservation and active participation in life-saving measures.

    ·      Patience: Highlighting the necessity of adhering to speed limits and driving rules.

    ·      Safety: Encouraging the adoption of advanced technologies and initiatives for safer public roads.

    ·      Collaboration: Emphasizing the need for cooperation among all stakeholders, including the public.

    SaveLIFE Foundation founder and CEO Piyush Tewari commented, “Road crashes are a major public health concern in India. It is crucial to communicate the safety message to the masses, inspiring empathy and respect for life. The Sadak Suraksha Abhiyan is a pioneering effort in this direction, and SaveLIFE Foundation is proud to support it.”

    The ministry of road transport and highways is committed to enhancing road infrastructure, improving road safety education, and promoting responsible driving to make roads safer for everyone.     Mumbai: During her speech, the finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated, “The country is proud of our youth scaling new heights in sports. The highest-ever medal tally in Asian Games and Asian Para Games in 2023 reflects a high confidence level. Chess prodigy and our Number-One ranked player Praggnanandhaa put up a stiff fight against the reigning World Champion Magnus Carlsson in 2023. Today, India has over 80 chess grandmasters compared to little over 20 in 2010.”

    One of the key beneficiaries of this augmented budget is Khelo India, which has received a significant increase from Rs 880 crores to Rs 900 crores.

    “The substantial allocation in this year’s budget not just for the sports sector but also for Khelo India will play a pivotal role with regard to grassroots development. This support for our athletes across all sporting disciplines will facilitate more participation and lead to more medals at the Olympics and other international tournaments,” commented U Mumba CEO Suhail Chandhok.

    Concurring with him, Yuva Kabaddi Series CEO Vikas Gautam emphasised, “The commendable allocation in this year’s budget marks a significant stride towards transforming India into a sporting powerhouse.     Mumbai : Bodhisatva Ganguli, who recently retired as editorial director of The Economic Times, has joined Network18 as group consulting editor.

    Bodhi will join the strong line up of editors and writers at Network18 and will primarily contribute to Moneycontrol across multiple formats, guide teams and also help with the network’s on ground events.

    An economics graduate of Kolkata’s Presidency College, Bodhi did his post graduate degree from the Delhi School of Economics.

    He started his career at the Business India magazine and joined the opinion section of the Economic Times in 1999. He became the paper’s executive editor in 2015 and was later elevated to the post of Editorial Director.

    Mumbai: Star Sports Network, the official broadcaster of Pro Kabaddi League (PKL), continues to offset new benchmarks for Kabaddi viewership in the country. The league’s milestone Season 10 has captivated an astounding 226 million* viewers during the initial 90 matches, showcasing a remarkable 17 per cent increase in reach compared to season nine and making it the only sport outside cricket to cross the 200 million mark multiple times. Furthermore, the broadcaster has recorded 38 billion minutes* of watch time, 15 per cent higher than Season nine during the same period.     The PKL Season 10 has already surpassed last year’s viewership figures, with the playoffs and finals yet to be played. The playoffs will begin from 26th February 2024 at Gachibowli Indoor Stadium (G. M. C. Balayogi Indoor Stadium) in Hyderabad with the finals to played on 1 March 2024.
