    Zee Entertainment secures shareholder approval to raise Rs 2,000 crore

    Mumbai: Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) announced on 15 July that it has received approval from its shareholders to raise Rs 2,000 crore.

    In a regulatory filing, Zee said,”The remote e-voting process concluded today i.e., Monday, July 15, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. (IST), post which the Scrutinizer appointed for scrutiny of Postal Ballot process, Ms. Vinita Nair (Membership No. F10559), Senior Partner, M/s. Vinod Kothari & Co., Company Secretaries, has submitted her report on the results of the Postal Ballot. Based on the report of the Scrutinizer, we hereby inform you that the shareholders of the Company have duly passed the resolution for issuance of securities for an amount not exceeding Rs2,000 crores with requisite majority.”

    Earlier, on 6 June, Zee had announced its intention to raise funds through the issuance of equity shares and/or via private placement, qualified institutions placement (QIP), preferential issue, or other methods, subject to necessary approvals. This fundraising approval follows the cancellation in January of a proposed $10 billion merger with Sony.

    Since then, Zee has implemented several measures to streamline operations and reduce losses, including a workforce reduction of 15 per cent and a restructuring of its leadership team.

    Our intent has been to create a new story that appeals to the new generation. If you watch the episodes you will realize that many elements in the story are very contemporary and reflect the day and age we live in.

    The new series is all about making new friends by going on an adventure and taking on challenges. The journey becomes more enjoyable and difficulties appear to be simpler when everybody comes together and supports each other as a team.

    In all of 90 seconds on the clock during the auditions, the contestants must showcase three power moves to impress the judges, also known as E.N.T specialists to go ahead in the show. Evaluated based on the criteria of ‘Entertainment,’ ‘Newness,’ and ‘Technique’ this season’s new judge Karisma Kapoor will look at the ‘Entertainment’ factor, Geeta Kapur will keep a keen eye on the ‘Newness’ element and Terence Lewis will focus on the ‘Technique’ of the overall performance. Introducing a new game changer this season, the contestants will be given a compelling task called ‘Mauka Ya Chauka’ where the contestants who get the best buzzer from the judges will face this challenge. Opting for ‘Mauka’ ensures direct entry into the Top 12, bypassing the Mega Auditions, while choosing ‘Chauka’ involves a dance-off against a former contestant of the show who is now a part of the jury panel. Then comes the Mega Auditions where the selected contestants battle it out in pairs of trios to move into the next round. And last comes the Grand Premiere where the judges will announce the Top 12 contestants as the ‘Best Barah’ who will be introduced to their respective mentors in their journey ahead. Each week, these contestants will compete to get one step closer to winning the coveted title of India’s Best Dancer!

    Mumbai: The #RIPCartoonNetwork trending on X (formerly Twitter) has sent shockwaves through fans, fueled by reports hinting at the possible closure of the channel. The popularity of the hashtag followed a video posted by ‘Animation Workers Ignited’ on X, captioned “Is Cartoon Network really gone?!?!” This viral post also drew attention to imminent job cuts within the animation industry affecting various studios.

    In the video, it was revealed that Cartoon Network is facing significant challenges, mirroring similar struggles in other animation studios. The footage highlighted concerns over job losses, noting that many workers have already been unemployed for extended periods, exacerbated by the industry’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The video explained that while animation could operate smoothly remotely during the pandemic, studios chose to cancel projects, outsource work, and conduct widespread layoffs.

     

     

    Criticism was aimed at major studios for prioritizing cost-cutting measures and layoffs, contrasting sharply with the continued financial gains enjoyed by CEOs and executives. The video condemned these profit-driven actions and gave extra weight to the inequality in benefitting from such decisions.

    Additionally, the video called for action from viewers to raise awareness, urging them to share posts about their favorite Cartoon Network shows using the hashtag #RIPCartoonNetwork. It promised further opportunities for involvement, encouraging followers to stay informed by following the account for updates.

    According to a recent update, Cartoon Network has confirmed that neither the network nor its studio is shutting down.

    They said, “Cartoon Network would like to clarify that is no truth to the speculation that the network or the studio are shutting down,” affirmed a spokesperson. “With a number of recently announced greenlights, we remain committed to continually investing in innovative content that entertains and inspires our viewers across the globe.”

    Mumbai: India TV chairman Rajat Sharma has been elected as the President of the news broadcasters & digital association (NBDA),for another term in 2024-25. the largest organization of news broadcasters in India, consisting of almost all major news networks in the country. The appointments took place during NBDA’s board meeting held at 9 July 2024

    Addressing the NBDA, Rajat Sharma remarked on the significant challenges facing news broadcasters today. “There is a concentrated effort to discredit the news broadcast industry,” he said. “A section of the digital media is being misused to constantly attack news broadcasters. We have to work together to fight this menace.”

    Sharma further emphasised the pressures faced by those in the news industry, stating, “Our editors, anchors, and reporters are being targeted. They are working under tremendous pressure as an ecosystem has been created to consistently threaten their credibility. It is our responsibility to ensure that they get a fearless atmosphere to deliver fair news.”

    Ultimate Table Tennis and Viacom18 extend broadcast deal to boost table tennis revolution

    Mumbai: Ultimate Table Tennis has partnered with Viacom18 to bring world-class table tennis action from the upcoming season of the league. UTT 2024 is scheduled to be held in Chennai from August 22 to September 7 and will be streamed on JioCinema for free and broadcasted on the Sports18 Network.

    This deal earmarks the second year of partnership between UTT and Viacom18 following a successful collaboration last season. The franchise-based league, which is in its fifth season, will witness 17 days of high-voltage and entertaining action as JioCinema and the Sports18 Network will bring high-octane matches in English and Hindi for table tennis and sports enthusiasts.

    Launched in 2017 and promoted by Niraj Bajaj and Vita Dani under the auspices of the Table Tennis Federation of India, UTT has rapidly become one of the most sought-after global sports properties in table tennis. The league has played a significant role in the growth of Indian table tennis, contributing to India’s historic qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

    Talking about the association, UTT co-promoters Niraj Bajaj and Vita Dani, expressed:

The other six teams participating in this edition are: PBG Bengaluru Smashers, Dabang Delhi TTC, U Mumba TT, Goa Challengers, Puneri Paltan Table Tennis and Chennai Lions.

    UTT adds on to the already diverse sporting portfolio of Viacom18, which is home to world-class sporting events, including the upcoming Olympic Games Paris 2024, Diamond League, select BWF events, BCCI Cricket, TATA IPL, TATA WPL, SA20, Major League Cricket (MLC) and the NBA among others.

    A total of 48 premier paddlers, including top Indian players like Achanta Sharath Kamal, Manika Batra, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Sreeja Akula alongside 16 global stars such as World No. 9 Bernadette Szocs, World No. 16 Nina Mittelham and Nigeria’s ace player Quadri Aruna, are set to compete in the UTT 2024.

    The player draft will take place in Mumbai on July 10.
