VoxWeb’s Speaking Picture app reinvents photograph

MUMBAI: VoxWeb’s Speaking Orange Line Picture app was launched with an aim to innovate the way we look at photographs reinventing photographs and bring a radical shift in the online communication and social networking sphere. After being in public beta version for more than a month, the app has gone live in India, Europe and North America.

Voxweb, a consumer internet company, which designs and develops online communication and networking products, has now rolled out the app on iOS and Android. The app gets its quirky name from the fact that it adds emotions and atmosphere to the pictures through vocal sounds, indicated by the orange line.

Speaking Orange Line Picture inventor Yash Mishra said, “Designers have been working for years to reinvent the photo and lately the world has been presented with a few compelling options. However, people today have missed the point that turning a photo into an animation eradicates the very essence of a photograph, transforming it into a motion picture. Speaking Pictures, on the other hand sustains the soul of “one frame,” while adding magic to it, through the voice of the photographer or sounds of the surrounding or the atmosphere.”

VoxWeb’s Speaking Orange Line Picture is geared to disrupt the existing communication and network product line. Ever since its launch, many amazing speaking pictures have been taken and shared from university campuses and streets in Paris, New York and San Francisco. Additionally, the app also facilitates creating selfies that can speak termed as ‘speaking selfies’ as ‘Voxies’.

  • Ultra HD screen sales to see 200% hike; touch 5 million by Dec 2015

Ultra HD screen sales to see 200% hike; touch 5 million by Dec 2015

MUMBAI: Consumers in key European TV markets are ready to embrace Ultra HD as a thrilling TV experience and to invest in equipment and content.

Eutelsat Communications’ new forecast from GfK predicts a striking 200 per cent hike in Ultra HD screen sales from June to December 2015. It expects sales to hit the five million mark by the end of the year (3.6 million in Western Europe, 700,000 in Eastern Europe and 600,000 in the Middle East), representing 9.3 per cent of all TV sales in 21 key markets in these regions. Accumulated sales will result in a potential installed base of 6.2 million TV homes.

Additionally, Ultra HD screens in 2020 will represent more than 70 per cent of total sales across Europe and almost 60 per cent in the Middle East and North Africa. The annual volume of screens sold in these markets is expected by then to have reached 37 million.

The pulse of Ultra HD was presented by Eutelsat at IBC in Amsterdam. It included key findings of new qualitative consumer research conducted for Eutelsat by market research firm TNS, and fresh data from GfK on Ultra HD screen sales.

“Eutelsat has researched consumer awareness and appetite for the Ultra HD experience in order to support our broadcast clients as they evaluate business models and timing for rolling-out Ultra HD content. The stage is set for Ultra HD to be TV’s next big success story and Eutelsat, as a leader in satellite delivery, is ready to accompany clients in this new rendezvous with viewers,” said Eutelsat director of commercial development and marketing Markus Fritz.

“Super contrast: resolution is just crazy”

The consumer qualitative study was carried out in two waves in Italy, France, the UK, Germany, Poland, Russia and Turkey: the first wave in November 2014 and the second in June 2015. The objective, in a series of focus groups, was to expose pay-TV subscribers and free-to-air viewers to an unprompted Ultra HD experience and gather insight on their response.

The results show common trends across all markets. Panellists identified sharpness, immersion and vivid colour as outstanding benefits and indicated a willingness to pay up to €10 a month to benefit from Ultra HD in the home. Their investment threshold for new TV sets also matched current price points of between €1,000 and €3,000 for screens within the 50” range. While Pay-TV subscribers showed a strong preference for linear Ultra HD channels, viewers used to free TV expressed a preference to gain their first experience through VOD and occasional, event-specific offerings.

Sony & Technicolor form patent licensing program for Digital TV & CDM

MUMBAI: Sony Corporation and Technicolor have formed a joint patent licensing program for digital television (DTV) and computer display monitor (CDM).

Technicolor will be the exclusive licensing agent of the combined portfolio that covers DTV and CDM. The license is offered for the convenience of both existing and new licensees, enabling them to obtain a single license as an alternative to negotiating separate licenses.

“By combining these two complementary patent portfolios under a single licensing program, we are providing a leaner and more efficient licensing program for the industry in the field of DTV and CDM. This agreement builds on Technicolor’s successful track-record of monetizing its portfolio of intellectual property and the strength of its licensing teams,” said Technology Group president and Technicolor deputy CEO Stephane Rougeot.

Technicolor is constantly investing in research and development in technology areas that are pervasively adopted in DTV and CDM, including video and audio compression, high dynamic range, wide colour gamut, user interface and other display technologies.

“Sony has a long history of successfully managing its large patent portfolio. We have done this alone, jointly with other companies, or through third parties. It was a very good platform for networking.”

The Summit’s 1,152 total attendance is a 35% increase from previous year. Average attendance per session also went up by 55%. In particular, the entertainment industry-focused and enterprise IT-focused sessions each drew more than 100 delegates.

“Latest Trends & New Technology in Live Events – Challenges & Opportunities” was presented by Alexander Prill, International Sales Director, LANG AG, Germany. Ramesh Kumar T, General Manager & Head of IT at Mindtree spoke on “AV/ IT Convergence – The Future of IT Integrators”. An equally-outstanding line-up of experts served as moderators and panelists during panel discussions that followed keynote sessions. A new feature at this year’s Summit, panel discussions encouraged depth of knowledge-sharing.

“I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the discussions, and the depth and breadth of the presentations,” said Sandesh Kulkarni, Manager Sales, Innovative Systems & Solutions (P) Ltd. “It was truly an inspiring experience for me. InfoComm India Summit is the right place for an unmatchable learning experience on topics ranging from acoustics to videoconferencing.”

Under the Indian Government Smart Cities Programme, 100 cities across India will be transformed into Smart Cities by harnessing technology for the purpose of accelerating economic development, creating jobs, raising income levels and lifting the quality of life. This ambitious programme will enhance the impetus to drive InfoComm India to greater growth as audiovisual and information communication technologies are the fundamental building blocks for Smart Cities.

“We are very pleased with the strong growth of InfoComm India, the good response of exhibitors and encouraging feedback from visitors and Summit attendees,” said Richard Tan. “Looking ahead, we are very excited about the long-term growth prospects of the audiovisual and information communication technology industries in India, the huge possibilities unleashed by the Smart Cities Programme and its positive impact on InfoComm India.”
