  • Cameron Diaz, Jodie Foster add to list of Golden Globe presenters

    MUMBAI: Chace Crawford, Cameron Diaz and Jodie Foster have been set as presenters at The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards.


    They join Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry, Gerard Butler, Colin Farrell, Matthew Fox, Mel Gibson, Tom Hanks, Neil Patrick Harris, Nicole Kidman, Sophia Loren, Julia Roberts, Mickey Rourke and Sam Worthington whose names were previously announced.


    The Golden Globe Awards will be seen in more than 160 countries worldwide and is one of the few awards ceremonies that span both television and motion picture achievements.


    The special will be produced by Dick Clark Productions in association with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Orly Adelson, president of Dick Clark productions and Barry Adelman will executive produce the special directed by Chris Donovan.


    The show will be hosted by Ricky Gervais.
     

  • HFPA selects Mavis Spencer as Miss Golden Globe

    MUMBAI: Mavis Spencer has been selected as Miss Golden Globe for The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).


    Traditionally, Miss Golden Globe, who assists in the Golden Globes ceremony, is the daughter of a well-known celebrity. The eighteen-year old Mavis happens to be the daughter of Golden Globe winner Alfre Woodard and writer/producer Roderick Spencer.


    Exclaimed Mavis, “It means a lot to me as a young person to be a part of something with such a rich history. I know how my mom feels when she brings home a statue. And to hand someone a token of their accomplishments when they‘re elated will just be really cool. I have memories of my mom traipsing off to the Globes, but this year she‘s with me! And we‘re going to have so much fun.”


    Mavis has earlier appeared in Teen Vogue and InStyle Magazine. She plans to model and study acting at Columbia, while continuing her already illustrious career in ‘Equestrienne Show Jumping‘.


    Previous Miss Golden Globe honorees include Rumer Willis (daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis), Laura Dern (daughter of Diane Ladd and Bruce Dern), Joely Fisher (daughter of Connie Stevens and Eddie Fisher) and Melanie Griffith (daughter of Tippi Hedren).

  • Scorsese to receive Cecil B DeMille award at the Golden Globe Awards

    MUMBAI: Martin Scorsese will be presented with the Cecil B. DeMille Award for his outstanding contribution to the entertainment field at the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards on 17 January.


    Scorsese received two Golden Globe Awards for Best Director of a Motion Picture‘ for The Departed and Gangs of New York. He has also been the receipient of five additional Golden Globe nominations including four as Best Director (Casino, Age of Innocence, Goodfellas, and Raging Bull) and one for Best Screenplay for Goodfellas (with Nicolas Pileggi).


    Recent Cecil B. DeMille winners include Steven Spielberg (2009), Warren Beatty (2007), Anthony Hopkins (2006), Robin Williams (2005) and Michael Douglas (2004).


    Scorsese‘s additional awards and honors include the Golden Lion from the Venice Film Festival (1995), the AFI Life Achievement Award (1997), the Honoree at the Film Society of Lincoln Center‘s 25th Gala Tribute (1998), and the DGA Lifetime Achievement Award (2003) and The Kennedy Center Honors (2007).


    Scorsese‘s most film The Departed was released to critical acclaim in October 2006 and has been honored with the Golden Globe, Director‘s Guild of America, New York Film Critics, National Board of Review and Critic‘s Choice awards for Best Director in addition to four Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director.


    He is currently in post-production of Shutter Island due for release in the spring of 2010 and is the executive producer of the upcoming HBO drama series Boardwalk Empire.

  • UTV lines up Golden Globe award-winning films this January

    MUMBAI: UTV World Movies has lined up some of the award winning movies that have won the Golden Globe awards this month.


    With this, the channel gives a splendid opportunity to its viewers to savor handpicked award-winning films of Golden Globe of the past few years through its on air property The Gold Rush every Wednesday at 8:30 pm.


    The Golden Globe Awards are presented annually by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) to recognize outstanding achievements in the entertainment industry, both domestic and foreign, and to focus wide public attention upon the best in motion pictures and television.


    The films are A Room With A View (6 January), A Special Day (13 January), The Mission (20 January) and Paradise Now (27 January).


    Says UTV World Movies programming head Manasi Sapre, “Golden Globe awards, the first major award every year, sets a mark for other awards.   • Five films nominated to Golden Globe animated feature category

    MUMBAI: Five nominated films will vie for the best animated feature Golden Globe Awards after members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) voted to expand the category.


    The nominees for the 67th annual awards will be announced in Hollywood on 15 December before the prize-giving ceremony on 17 January next year.


    Under the amended HFPA rules, in order to qualify as an animated feature, eligible films must be 70 minutes and not longer and should contain not more than 25 per cent live-action.


    If less than eight animated films qualify the award will not be given. In that case the films would be eligible for best picture.


     

  • Three Indian films among others vying for Golden Globe award

    MUMBAI: Harischandrachi Factory and Chandni Chowk To China are among 69 foreign-language films that have qualified for the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards. Of these, five nominees will be announced on 15 December. The awards will take place on 17 January next year.

  • Up In the Air bags six nominations at Golden Globe

    MUMBAI: Jason Reitman‘s Up In The Air emerged as the frontrunner with six nominations followed by Quentin Tarantino‘s Inglorious Basterds, Rob Marshall‘s Nine and James Cameron‘s Avatar with four apiece when the nominations for the 67th Golden Globe awards were announced yesterday.


    The Hurt Locker will vie for best drama with Up In The Air, Inglourious Basterds, Precious and Avatar.


    Nine competes for the musical or comedy award against 500 Days Of Summer, The Hangover, It‘s Complicated and Julie & Julia.


    Kathryn Bigelow got a best director nomination along with James Cameron for Avatar, Tarantino, Reitman and Clint Eastwood for Invictus. The first two have also been nominated for screenplay.


    The dramatic actors category features heavyweight contenders Jeff Bridges for Crazy Heart, George Clooney for Up In The Air, Colin Firth for A Single Man and Morgan Freeman for Invictus, with Brothers‘ Tobey Maguire filling the fifth spot, possibly at the expense of The Hurt Locker‘s Jeremy Renner.


    Matt Damon was nominations twice, one for best comedy or musical actor for The Informant! and the other as supporting actor for Invictus with favourite Christoph Waltz for Inglourious Basterds.


    Two actresses – Meryl Streep and Sandra Bullock have been nominated twice for acting awards. Streep dominates the musical or comedy category with It‘s Complicated and Julie & Julia, while Bullock rounds off her best ever year at the box-office with a musical or comedy nod for The Proposal and dramatic recognition for The Blind Side.


    British stars overshadow the dramatic actress category with Helen Mirren for The Last Station, breakout Carey Mulligan for An Education and Emily Blunt for The Young Victoria all up against Bullock and Gabourey Sidibe for Precious.


    Going by the studios, films from The Weinstein Company and Relativity Media drew 12 nominations apiece, followed by Universal and Paramount on seven.


    The 67th Golden Globes ceremony is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on 17 January.
     

  • Ricky Gervais to host Golden Globe Awards

    MUMBAI: Actor Ricky Gervais will host The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards on 17 January, 2010.


    The show, which is organised by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), recognises work in television and film.


    NBC and Universal Media Studios executive VP, alternative programming Paul Telegdy says, “Ricky is certainly one of the funniest people on the planet and has provided some of the most hilarious and memorable awards show moments in recent memory.


    “His unique comedic style will enhance the only awards show that brings together television and film stars to celebrate entertainment‘s biggest night of the year.”
     

  • Jennifer Aniston among three to present Golden Globe awards

    MUMBAI: MUMBAI: Jennifer Aniston, Mickey Rourke and Julia Roberts will be presenting the 67th annual Golden Globe Awards that takes place on 17 January.


    They join Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio, who will present the Cecil B. DeMille Award to Martin Scorsese.


    Roberts is also a nominee in the category of best performance by an actress in a musical or comedy for her role in Duplicity.


    The show, hosted by Ricky Gervais, will be broadcast live on NBC from the Beverly Hilton.
