    MUMBAI: Man’s quest for unraveling the mysteries of the universe was showcased in the culmination “Earth and Beyond” presented by children of Grade II, Billabong High International School, Bhopal.

    The infinite capacity of children to grasp facts and figures, their innate curiosity which prompts them to question “Why” or “Why not” and the discussion of possibilities which forms an integral part of the unit, was highlighted through poems, dances, role plays etc.

    One felt as though one was in a capsule on an odyssey in space. “Universal Court” reminded the audience of the legacy, the pioneers of space travel have left behind while “Happy Birthday Sedna” applauded the triumph of the human spirit.


    Sujata Lakhani, Principal, Billabong High International School, said, The depiction of the space through poems, dances, role plays etc. enlightened all of us on the various & interesting aspects of the world beyond the earth. The students have played their part in a fabulous manner.

    The audience of proud parents returned home enriched and enlightened — with some food for thought: When a child asks questions, choose to respond accurately remember that child may just be Neil Armstrong or Kalpana Chawla in the making!

    MUMBAI: Karl Mehta, the Silicon Valley technology entrepreneur and venture capitalist, today announced Code For India (CFI), a global community of software engineers from around the world to build technology for public service to solve developing world problems. With India as the test-bed, CFI proposes to build tools that will help solve problems on the ground, and empower citizens to actively participate in partnership with local government to give communities the power to help themselves.

    “As a firm believer in the power of crowd sourced and open sourced technology, we have created Code For India to provide tools to fight day-to-day public service issues,” said Mehta.
    “Code For India’s use of technology will promote transparency, participation and efficiency in the way local people can voice their concern and find solutions. The transformative power of technology will aid India — and other developing countries facing similar problems.”

    Code For India has support from Indian-origin tech professionals around the world. Software engineers from Microsoft, Google, eBay, VISA and Facebook have volunteered in developing social awareness apps in the first phase of Code For India. Potentially adding thousands of volunteers, the organizations TiE Silicon Valley, TiE Mumbai, TiE New Delhi and The Morpheus Fund have partnered with Code For India to encourage their large network of tech community members to get involved. In addition, Professor Vijay Pande of Stanford University, Mohandas Pai, Chairman of Manipal Global Education and Vish Mishra, Venture Director at Clearstone and mentor to The Hive and The Fabric have joined the Advisory Board.

    “Code for India is a unique and commendable initiative whereby the sharpest of computing minds can apply themselves to altruistic causes. TiE Delhi NCR are proud to be associated with the program,” said Deep Kalra, President of TiE-New Delhi.

    MUMBAI: ZEE AMERICAS in partnership with Ethnic Channels Group announces the launch of TEN Cricket on Rogers Communications Inc. Channel 671. Cricket, one of the most watched games in the world, will be broadcast in Canada as a 24-hour South Asian sports channel.

    Roger’s addition of TEN Cricket will enable cricket fans across the region to watch all home and away matches played between teams representing West Indies, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa, and India.     English language Learning is taking a New Lead in Delhi & NCR: Survey Report

    New Delhi, August 22, 2013: – EnglishEdge, the leading provider of technology based English language learning solutions in India conducted a market survey to gauge the interest level for English learning in Delhi-NCR. The survey was done on the students who recently joined spoken English classes in various institutes as well as people, who are in early years of their job in service industry with a purpose of understanding the level of interest of students for learning English language via the online medium.

    In Delhi-NCR, the students were classified into four categories viz. students studying for social status, for clearing entrance exams, cracking job interviews and professionals in retail and especially BPO markets for whom English Language is giving an extra edge to their career. The survey revealed that 38 percent of the total respondents are accessing internet through mobiles, followed by 45 percent who are accessing it through self-owned PCs and laptops, whereas the remaining 17 percent are dependent on a third party source for accessing internet.

    The findings of the survey depicted that majority of the students interested in learning spoken English were under the age group of 23 – 27 years of age and are looking for jobs. 90 percent of them are students pursuing graduation or post-graduation or some of them have just completed their courses and are currently looking for jobs. 57 percent of them have undertaken degrees or diplomas in professional courses like B.Tech, M.Tech. BCA, MCA, BBA and MBA unlike regular Degree courses.

    English language learning is gaining more prominence among retail professionals as the Indian Retail Sector is revolutionizing at a fast pace and demands international level servicing standards and English language learning plays an important role in this Industry. The survey revealed that more than 80% of Retail professionals expressed keen interest in learning English and almost 40% of these retail professionals preferred learning it via digital platforms like mobile, PCs and Laptops as these can be accessed, anytime convenient to them.

    According to the survey, BPO Professionals are equally interested in learning spoken English. As per the report, 65 percent of them are earning a salary of 10K to 20K and majority of them aim at strengthening their English language skills to enhance their career.

    During the Market Survey, a retail professional from Delhi said, “I am a professional working in Shipra Mall Ghaziabad, and generally it is difficult for me to find time for regular classes. Learning English via the online medium would be of great help to me. This will enable me to learn anytime, anywhere at my convenience.”

    The simulcast of the premiere of the made for television movie “Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess” on Disney Channel, Hungama TV and Disney Junior reached out to more than 4 million audiences (CS 4+) of which 2.3 million were kids (CS 4-14) across All India. Disney Channel ranked #1 across all TV during its time slot garnering a 26% share of viewing within the kids genre among all kids (CS 4-14 ABC) and 36% share of viewing among younger girls (CS ABC F 4-9).
