    MUMBAI: The grand finale of the 16th JK Tyre Racing Championship to be held at the Buddh International Circuit on November 30-December 1, will see the unique coming together of the high-octane world of motor racing, glamour and music. The 2013 season opener held at the Kari Motor Speedway which created history in the Indian Motorsport industry is all set to culminate on a grand note at BIC.

    JK Tyre, the biggest promoters of motorsport in the country in its yet another path breaking initiative has invited renowned international professional women’s racing team to race in the ‘Ultima Queens Cup’ which will run as a support race in the final round of the 16th JK Tyre Racing Championship. Keeping in mind the fact that India has very few women race drivers, JK Tyre in its efforts to promote women in this challenging sport has taken this step forward to encourage women drivers to take up racing as a serious sport. The audience will be treated to some adrenaline racing action as the Ultima Race Queens from Scandinavia, Puerto Rico, Hungary, and Netherlands display some wheel-to-wheel action in their Race Polos at the world’s best racing track.

    JK Tyre has produced some of the most talented Indian male race drivers and with the JK Ultima Queens Cup they have taken the step to inspire Indian women into motorsports at a professional level.

    MUMBAI: After the joyful success last year, ‘5000 Popcorns’ returned to kick start the festive cheer in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Pune and Bengaluru, which  witnessed packed cinema auditoriums with 5000 children sitting transfixed to watch the heart-warming ‘Stanley ka Dabba’, an Amole Gupte film.

    Amole Gupte himself joined the children at PVR Goregaon, Mumbai and interacted with them amongst cheers and applause.

    In its second year ‘5000 Popcorns’, which is a joint initiative of Deutsche Bank in India and PVR Nest, a registered foundation of India’s leading multiplex chain PVR Limited, brought together 5000 children from not for profit and community schools in one of the largest simultaneous movie screenings across cities. The children enjoyed the film that takes you through the wonder years of childhood while skilfully weaving in messages for providing education to all children and opposing child labour.

    Speaking on the occasion, Shrinath Bolloju, Chief Operating Officer, for Deutsche Bank in India said “After the stirring and warm response we got from the kids last year, we at Deutsche Bank are pleased to once again bring in the Christmas and New Year’s cheer to the children through the magic of cinema, even while sharing a beautiful and inspiring social message.     NEW DELHI: The seventh edition of the Hero Women’s Indian Open witnessed the ‘Rest of the World’ team beat ‘Asia’ 3-1 in the ‘Hero Skills Challenge’ at the par-72, Delhi Golf Club course here today.

    The Rest of the World team comprising Sophie Gustafson (Sweden), GwladysNocera (France), Holly Clyburn(England) and Maria Balikoeva (Russia) beat The Asian contingent of Sharmila Nicollet, Neha Tripathi, Vani Kapoor (all India) and Chung Ye Na (Korea) by a margin of 3-1. Rest of the World pocketed Rs 90,000 for their efforts while Team Asia had to settle for Rs 30,000. Each skills contest was worth a prize purse of Rs 30,000.

    The USD 300,000Hero Women’s Indian Open 2013 commences with thePro-Am on Wednesday 27th November, followed by the three-day main stroke-play tournament, from 28th to 30thNovember, 2013.The event is tri-sanctioned by the Ladies European Tour (LET), Ladies Asian Golf Tour (LAGT) and the Womens’ Golf Association of India (WGAI).

    The ‘Hero Skills Challenge’ teed-off with the ‘Longest Drive’ competition. Rest of the World beat Asia in this format after Ladies European Tour star Sophie Gustafson let loose a 283 yard drive on the tenth fairway. Asia’s best reply in this contest came in the form of a 265-yard effort by Sharmila Nicollet.

    Sharmila however pulled one back for team Asia in the ‘Closest to the Pin’ contest with her ball coming to rest 3.5 feet from the pin. The best the Rest of the World could manage in this category was a 12 feet 6 inch effortfrom Holly Clyburn of England.

    In the ‘Bunker Shot’ contest however, Russia’s Maria Balikoeva helped Rest of the World nudge ahead with a superb shot that saw her ball come to rest 1 foot six inches from the pin, far better than the 3 feet 8 inch effort from Korean Chung Ye Na.

    The Rest of the World drove the nail into the coffin in the ‘Putting Contest’ with Sophie Gustafson once again starring with a superb putt that fell just nine inches short of its target. In reply, the closest Asia could get, with Vani Kapoor’s effort was a 3 feet, three inches putt.

    Of the 120 players who played in the inaugural Hero Hockey India League in 2013, 60 were Olympians. Seven of the top 10 FIH rated players played in the Hero HIL 2013.

    More than 69 million fans across the world watched the inaugural tournament won by the Ranchi Rhinos telecast in 146 countries. HIL used innovative marketing mediums and currently has 5.59 lac fans on Facebook, making it the largest hockey facebook page in the world and is one of the most engaging sports leagues on the social media platform.

    Six franchise teams will feature in the second season of the Hero Hockey India League to be held from 25 January to 23 February 2014. The League will be an opportunity for 144 leading players to showcase their skills in 34 matches at six different venues.
