    MUMBAI: POGO, India’s leading kids’ channel, is at the precipice of reaching yet another milestone. Its proprietary talent hunt initiative – POGO Amazing Kids Awards (PAKA), is celebrating its 10th edition this year. PAKA is India’s first kids’ television awards ceremony that upholds the channel’s tradition of discovering, recognizing and celebrating, the amazingly talented children of India across various categories including dance, music, sports, social service, etc.

    It was no easy feat to select one winner from hundreds of candidates across India. Taking up this immense responsibility was a panel of eminent experts within each field. Icon Ayaz Memon judged the sports category, Tobby Fernandes judged the dance category, Salim Merchant judged the singer and musician category, Tathagat Tulsi judged the genius category and Vaibhav Kumaresh judged the artist category. The social service category was judged by Fr. Terrance and the entertainer category was judged by Krishna Desai.

    MUMBAI: CNN International has once again been recognized for its outstanding global journalism winning the coveted ‘Cable & Satellite Channel of the Year’, ‘Best News Story’ and ‘Best Social Awareness Program’ categories at the 2013 Asian Television Awards held last night in Singapore.

    CNN’s Hong Kong-based international correspondent Anna Coren won the prestigious ‘Best News Story 10 minutes or less’ for her powerful exclusive report ‘Afghanistan Taliban Firefight’ where she came under enemy fire for more than 90 minutes in Nejrab alongside U.S. Special forces.     CNN’s senior international correspondent Sara Sidner collected her second Asian Television Award, this time for the remarkable CNN Freedom Project documentary ‘Operation Hope’ in the ‘Best Social Awareness Program’ category. The award follows Sidner’s original recognition in 2011 as she chronicled the extraordinary against-the-odds journey of a seven-year-old Bangladeshi boy who was viciously attacked, castrated and left for dead because he refused to be forced into begging.     The award for ‘Operation Hope’ represents the latest recognition for the CNN Freedom Project, an initiative that has been honored extensively for its tireless efforts to shine a light on the horrors of modern-day slavery.

    VCare Sings along with Usha Uthup in Support of Cancer Patients

    MUMBAI: VCare foundation, a non-profit organization and a registered Public Charitable Trust that has been providing financial and emotional support to all the cancer patients and survivors in the country, over the weekend successfully hosted a fund raiser in support of those battling against cancer. 

    The fund raiser saw Usha Uthup perform at Tata Theatre at NCPA, to celebrate life with cancer survivors from across the country. It also gave a chance to cancer victims and survivors to forget their worries and sing along to popular foot tapping songs with Usha.

    Sharing her excitement, Ms. Jogita Jagwani said, “I had a great evening, singing aloud and matching steps with Usha to some great music. I am extremely grateful to Usha Uthup and VCare Foundation to acknowledge our battle against cancer and stand by us.”

    Vandana Gupta, Founder of VCare Foundation said, “We are thankful to Usha for supporting our fight against cancer. We will continue our endeavor to help cancer victims and their families to receive the best information, treatment, care and support possible. Over the years VCare Foundation has supported over 80,000 patients and we will continue our efforts to touch as many lives as possible.”

    Usha Uthup said, “Cancer does not only affect individuals but also their families. It is time we acknowledge survivors and celebrate these courageous individuals. I am glad to be associated with VCare Foundation that offered me a platfor
    m to give back to the society.”

    The funds raised from the sale of tickets would be going towards providing financial assistance to those affected by cancer.

    Bharti and Reliance Jio announce comprehensive telecom infrastructure sharing arrangement

    MUMBAI: Bharti Airtel Limited (“Bharti”) and Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (“Reliance Jio”) today announced a comprehensive telecom infrastructure sharing arrangement under which they will share infrastructure created by both parties. This will include optic fibre network – inter and intra city, submarine cable networks, towers and internet broadband services and other such opportunities identified in the future.

    The cooperation is aimed at avoiding duplication of infrastructure, wherever possible, and to preserve capital and the environment. This will also provide redundancy in order to ensure seamless services to customers of the respective parties.

    The arrangement could, in future, be extended to Roaming on 2G, 3G and 4G, and any other mutually benefiting areas relating to telecommunication, including but not limited to jointly laying optic fibre or other forms of infrastructure services. The pricing would be at ‘arm’s length’, based on the prevailing market rates.

    As part of this arrangement, Bharti and Reliance Jio have already announced an agreement under which Bharti has provided capacity on its i2i submarine cable to Reliance Jio. About Bharti’s Infrastructure:

    Bharti Infratel, a subsidiary of Bharti, is one of the largest tower infrastructure providers in India with 35,376 towers in 11 telecom circles across India. Bharti Infratel has 42% equity interest in Indus Towers. Indus Towers has 112,144 towers in 15 telecom Circles across India. Bharti’s national long distance network provides pan-India reach with 175,705 Rkms of optic fibre. Its global network runs across 225,000 Rkms, covering 50 countries and 5 continents.

    This includes ownership of i2i submarine cable system connecting Chennai to Singapore, consortium ownership of SMW4 submarine cable system connecting Chennai and Mumbai to Singapore and Europe, and new cable system investments like Asia America Gateway (AAG), India Middle East & Western Europe (IMEWE), Unity, EIG (Europe India Gateway) and East Africa Submarine System (EASSy). It also has terrestrial express connectivity to neighboring countries including Nepal, Pakistan, Bhutan, Bangladesh and China.
