    MUMBAI: NBC has ordered to series the spy drama Allegiance from writer George Nolfi (THE ADJUSTMENT BUREAU, THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM, OCEAN’S TWELVE), who also directed the pilot episode. The show is adapted from the original award-winning Israeli series MICE (Gordin Cell), which is produced by Tedy Productions for Israeli satcaster YES and Keshet Broadcasting, and distributed internationally by Keshet International.

     

    Allegiance is executive produced by Nolfi and Keshet Media Group CEO Avi Nir (Homeland) along with Yona Wisenthal from Yes and creators of the original Israeli show Ron Leshem, Amit Cohen and Giyora Yahalom. The series is a production of Universal Television, Keshet Media Group and YES.

     

    In Allegiance, Alex O’Connor, a young idealistic CIA analyst specializing in Russian affairs, learns a shocking secret and his close-knit, affluent family is about to be split apart when its revealed that his parents, Mark (Scott Cohen, Necessary Roughness) and Katya (Hope Davis, The Newsroom, In Treatment) are covert Russian spies deactivated decades ago.  But today the Kremlin has re-enlisted them into service as they plan a terrorist operation inside the U.S. border that will bring America to its knees.  Years ago, Russian-born Katya was tasked by the KGB to recruit American businessman Mark O’Connor as a spy and the two fell in love.     The Israeli original was created by Ron Leshem, Amit Cohen, Giora Yaalom and Danni Sirkin and produced by Tedy productions headed by Tmira Yardeni.

    MUMBAI: FremantleMedia has today confirmed that prison dramaCelblok-H, the Dutch adaptation of the global Australian hit Wentworth,has been recommissioned by SBS 6 in Holland for a second season. SBS confirmed the second season earlier this week even before the final episode of the first season aired.

    Adapted from the hugely successful FremantleMedia Australia series, season one Celblok-H used the same scripts to tell the gritty story of survival, rivalry, power struggles and unlikely allegiances within a female prison. It is expected that season two will follow the same process.

    Compelling and emotional, season one of Celblok-H captured up to 1.3 million viewers becoming the number one drama on SB6 so far this year. The show performed up to 84% higher than SBS6’s prime time average for total individuals (4+) and won shares of up to 21%, performing 145% higher than SBS6’s prime time average for the 20-49 demographic.

    Spider Man (3pm)  –  Spider Man is a 2002 American superhero film directed by Sam Raimi. Based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, the film stars Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker, a high-school student who when bitten by a genetically modified spider gains spider-like abilities that he eventually must use to fight evil as a superhero after tragedy befalls his family.

     
    Spider Man 2 (6pm)- The sequel to the 2002 film Spider-Man, it is the second film in Raimi’s Spider-Man film trilogy. Set two years after the events of Spider-Man, the film focuses on Peter Parker struggling to manage both his personal life and his duties as Spider-Man, while Dr. Otto Octavius (Doctor Octopus) becomes diabolical following a failed experiment and his wife’s death. He uses his mechanical tentacles to threaten and endanger the lives of New York City’s residents. Spider-Man must stop him from annihilating the city.

     
    Iron Man 3 (8pm) – Marvel’s “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

    New series of Horizons uncovers technology that could change the world

    MUMBAI: Presented by the award-winning business journalist Adam Shaw, Horizons continues its journey around the globe discovering the latest technologies and innovations that could revolutionize the way we live.

     

    From discarded mobile phones that could provide a reliable solution to illegal deforestation, lettuce leaves that could help fight polio, HIV and cholera and seaweed that can be turned into biofuel, this series will continue the search for the ideas and people tackling some of the big challenges facing our planet.

     

    Talking about the new series Adam said: “We’ve been travelling the globe for series 4 of Horizons and I’ve continuously been struck by the ingenuity of the people we met. Not just from those you’d expect, like scientists and academics, but ordinary people with brilliant ideas. And what’s most exciting is that these ideas have the potential to change millions of lives.”

     

    In the first episode of the series Adam travels to New York, London and the Netherlands to meet the innovators using ground-breaking ideas in light technology to illuminate lives all over the world.

     

    While the global lighting economy is worth more than 70 billion euros a year there remain more than a billion people who live without access to the electricity to generate light. In this programme Adam meets Jim Reeves, the inventor of a light that is powered purely by gravity, which is helping to bring light to homes in Africa and India.

     

    Adam then heads to New York to meet Jessica O. Matthews, the CEO of Uncharted Play, who whilst working near the bright artificial lights of Times Square, came up with a clever solution to create light for the developing world, without the need for electricity.

     

    Jessica has designed a football and a skipping rope that charge a battery as they are used which then enables a light to be plugged in.

     

    “By showing people what is possible with the power of play; we invite communities around the world to rethink the status quo in an accessible, tangible way. Innovation, science and play can be combined to improve the quality of life of people around the world,” says Jessica.

     

    Also in the programme, Adam meets the experts who have come up with exciting and ground breaking ways to harness the power of light. Adam discovers new developments in quantum dots and looks at the potential uses of this technology for lighting and the next generation of televisions.

     

    Finally Adam travels to the Netherlands to meet the Dutch innovator using light to benefit our surroundings. Daan Roosegarde has invented the Smart Highway which uses photo-luminescent paint to light roads at night and an environmentally friendly cycle path which lights up at night with Van Gogh inspired images.

     

    And for this series it will be even easier for audiences to keep up to date with Horizons, wherever they are, with the launch of the new Horizons app. The app will give audiences access to all the behind the scenes clips and video diaries from Adam and will provides users with a tailored experience with easy-to-find content based on location and theme, and the ability to favourite clips.
