    ‘Breaking News’ rescues innocent girl from Pune Brothel

    New Delhi, December 22, 2005: A distressed letter from Daamu (Name reconstructed) stating her pathetic condition in a Pune brothel and asking India TV to help her escape and return home, was immediately acted upon by India TV’s team. This undercover operation by the India TV Team on Tuesday, December 20 has finally helped release Daamu from the brothel along with 21 other girls.

    India TV’s Breaking News telecast at 9 p.m. tonight showcased the entire rescue operation where the undercover team put their own lives at risk by exposing this brothel which led to a police raid and finally the rescue of an innocent girl.

    India TV received a letter written in broken language from Daamu stating that she had traveled to Pune as a tourist with a friend and was sold to a brothel. Sold by her friend’s acquaintance, Daamu was forced to sell her body to anybody who could pay for it – be it a beggar or a rickshaw puller.
    Her letter along with her photograph to India TV stated that she had tried to escape several times, but was severly beaten and tortured by the brothel owner. During police raids, Daamu and the other girls were locked in hidden almirahs where they could hardly breathe. Daamu said “raid hone se pehle aunty ko pata chal jaata hai aur wo hamme chuppa deti hai”.

    India TV’s undercover reporter posing as a customer discovered Daamu in one of the brothels. In her telephone call to “Breaking News”, Daamu, confessed saying that she would be beaten on the thought of escape. Daamu further said that she is ill-treated, beaten and was kept in captivity. In this phone call Daamu confessed her pitiable state and pleaded repeatedly for freedom “Mujhe ghar jana hai….mujhe bacha lo”.

    Dammu’s poor parents had been desperately trying to trace her, but had given up after not finding any clues on her whereabouts. They hardly had a chance as Daamu was held in such captivity, where she had not seen sunlight for the whole of last year.

    India TV reporters realized that Daamus’ life would be in danger incase they tried to rescue her themselves, so they approached for help from the Pune Police. They contacted the Joint Commissioner Police, Pune – Mr. Prabhat Ranjan, who directed the team to Addl. Commissioner of Crime – Mr. Ashok Ghebra. After a process of prolonged formalities, the police finally agreed to conduct a raid. In this raid conducted along with India TV team, a total of 21 distressed girls were rescued and brought to the police station.

    A visibly relieved Daamu, who was ware of the raid, had been waiting in anticipation for the raid team with her packed suitcase. Immediately after her rescue, India TV helped her contact her family members in Darjeeling. Daamu was retained in police custody for the night and will be released after certain formalities, to finally be united with her family.

    During this entire operation, the India TV team found out that Pune, a city known for its education system, has become an open center for flesh trade and over 10,000 girls are caught in this notorious racket.

    Dammu’s story is evident of the faith and trust India TV’s viewers have put forward in the channel. Viewers have entrusted the channel to responsibly take up issues pertaining to day-to-day lives.

    Financial Highlights:

     

    CONSOLIDATED RESULTS FOR Q1 FY2015

     

    ·         Total Income increased by 26.0% to Rs. 2,446.1 million (Rs. 1,942.1 million in Q1 FY2014)

     

    ·         EBIT increased by 29.9% to Rs. 599.3 million (Rs. 461.3 million in Q1 FY2014)

     

    ·         Profit after tax (after minority) increased by 22.2% to Rs. 358.4 million (Rs. 293.4 million in Q1 FY2014)

     

    ·         Diluted EPS stood at Rs. 3.88 (Rs. 3.19 in Q1 FY2014)

     

    Executive Comment:

    Highlights: 

     

    ·         9 films released during Q1 FY2015: Including 5 Hindi and 4 Tamil films as compared to 12 films during Q1 FY 2014, which included 7 Hindi, 5 Tamil and other regional language films.

     

    o    Of the total movies released during the quarter, 1 movie was high budget & 8 were medium & low budget movies. 

     

    ·         Strong financial performance: Revenues during Q1 FY2015 were primarily driven through library film monetization across multiple platforms and the release of new movies in Hindi, Tamil and other regional languages.

     

    o    The Company is witnessing growth in new platforms for monetization of catalogue movies along with increasing demand on existing platforms.

     

    o    Kochadaiiyaan, a high profile movie starring Rajinikanth, also contributed positively to overall performance through various revenues streams. In-line with the Company’s de-risking strategy, the movie registered strong pre-sales from satellite rights in multiple languages, audio and music rights exploitation, brand tie ups and others. 

     

    ·         Acquisition of Techzone: Eros International acquired a controlling stake in Techzone, a leading mobile value added services provider.

     

    o    Techzone has executed an average of 25 million SMS, WAP or IVR transactions per month over the past three years across 12 major telecom operators in India and bills the customers directly through its billing platform.

     

    o    The acquisition is in sync with Eros International’s focus on building its new media content distribution strategy through ErosNow to participate in the massive opportunity which exists in India with 870 million mobile subscribers (including over 60 million internet enabled smart phones) as of year-end 2013. 

     

    ·         ErosNow’s partnership with Hathway Cable: ErosNow, the Company’s dedicated online entertainment platform offering full length movies and music videos, launched a movie streaming service ‘Broadband Movies’, in partnership with Hathway Cable, one of the leading cable television services provider in India.

     

    o    The streaming service will enable Hathway Broadband customers to watch high quality movies from the ErosNow platform on multiple devices like smart- TVs, PCs, laptops, tablets and mobiles.

     

    o    The subscription-based service will be available to Hathway Broadband customers across India. 

     

    ·         Eros Plc follow on equity offering:  Eros Plc successfully closed a follow- on equity offering on July 15, 2014.

    Pepsi MTV Indies Ribbit is a series of gigs that will be held by Pepsi MTV Indies in association with Blue Frog. Starting August 14, 2014 will be the first in a monthly series of gigs at Blue Frog. Performing at the gig this week are by The Supersonics – a Kolkata based rock n roll band that has been loved by the masses as well as the critics. Along with their new album “Heads up”, they will also be launching their new music video and documentary about the creation of their album.

     

    The other band performing at the gig is Parvaaz, a Bangalore based rock band with powerful vocals, known for their intense live shows. Their 2012 EP, Behosh, won them a nice fan following. They will be showcasing their new album ‘Baran’ at Ribbit.

With Pepsi MTV Indies on board, the third edition of ZFM will offer a unique blend of the best homegrown music from within India. Through ZIRO Festival of Music, Pepsi MTV Indies will provide a platform for young, unexplored musical talent across the country to showcase their musical genius. Pepsi MTV Indies is all set to up the ante in this year’s Ziro Festival of Music by introducing two new Indie bands selected through a nationwide band hunt.     CNN-IBN’s clean up India campaign gets overwhelming response

    MUMBAI: In the run up to the Independence day, CNN-IBN, India’s leading English News Channel had initiated a month long campaign ‘Clean up India’, where in the channel appealed to the viewers to identify areas in their cities that are eyesores and unhygienic due to filth and garbage. The campaign got immense response as videos and pictures poured in from all across the country exposing the ‘Trash Mountains’ in the cities. People from cities like Delhi, Varanasi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Trivandrum, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Puri, Srinagar and Ahmedabad reached out to us and shared their experiences about the lack of civic sense amongst common people and their thoughts on the inadequacies of the waste management system in the country. The channel not only brought this to the notice of the concerned authorities but also tried to catalyze necessary action.

     

    As this nationwide drive reaches its culmination, CNN-IBN will air a special one hour special show of ‘CLEAN UP INDIA’ which will take a close look at what it would take to bring sanitation, waste management and hygiene to rural and urban areas. On the show, CNN-IBN’s Senior editor and Anchor Anubha Bhonsle will be joined by an eminent panel of experts and personalities namely Jairam Ramesh, Sunita Narain (CSE), Bindeshwar Pathak (Sulabh), Kiran Majumdar Shaw along with representatives of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, who will share their insights on how there could be a change in behaviour of the citizens to ensure cleanliness i public places is given the importance that it deserves.
