    Jayawardene, Afridi, the most experienced players in ICC Cricket WC 2015

    MUMBAI: Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene and Shahid Afridi of Pakistan are in line to become the most experienced players in ICC Cricket World Cup history, after they were named in provisional squads for the tournament that starts on 14 February.

     

    The two players made their World Cup debuts at the ICC Cricket World Cup 1999, and have appeared in every event since then.

     

    While Jayawardene featured in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 and 2011, as well as the semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2003, Shahid Afridi was a member of the Pakistan side that played the final at Lord’s in 1999. He captained Pakistan at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 where Pakistan reached the semi-final.

     

    If the two players are named in the final line-ups, likely to be announced around 8 January 2015, then they will join the exclusive company of Wasim Akram, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Aravinda de Silva, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Sanath Jayasuriya, Jacques Kallis, Imran Khan, Brian Lara, Muttiah Muralidaran, Thomas Odoyo, Ricky Ponting, Arjuna Ranatunga and Steve Tikolo, who have each played in five ICC Cricket World Cups to date.

     

    Pakistan’s Javed Miandad and India’s Sachin Tendulkar, with six ICC Cricket World Cups each, share the record for the most appearances at ICC’s pinnacle event.

     

    Interestingly, this will be the first ICC Cricket World Cup which will be held without either Javed Miandad or Sachin Tendulkar. Javed Miandad played from 1975 to 1996, while Tendulkar represented his country from 1992-2011.

     

    Miandad featured in semi-finals in 1979, 1983 and 1987, final in 1992 and quarter-final in 1996, while Tendulkar appeared in the 1996 quarter-final, and 2003 and 2011 finals.

    Besides Jayawardene and Shahid Afridi, seven other players are in line to appear in their fourth World Cup: James Anderson, Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum, Younis Khan, Robin Peterson, Kumar Sangakkara and Daniel Vettori.

     

    The United Arab Emirates (UAE), which is returning the ICC Cricket World Cup for the first time since 1996, has named the oldest and youngest players of the tournament in its 30-player provisional squad. Khurram Khan at 43 is the oldest players (born 21 June 1971) while Yodhin Punja, who turned 15 on 24 April 2014, is the youngest player.

    MUMBAI: Anirudh Ravichander, the man behind the viral phenomenon ‘Kolaveri Di’ and the hottest music directors in the Tamil Music industry, announced his collaboration with rapper Brodha V.  Brodha V is bringing his trademark lyrical hip-hop to one of this season’s most anticipated Tamil Films, Kaaki Sattai. Brodha V will be rapping on a high-energy song titled, “Shake That”. The music launch for this film is scheduled on 12-12-2014 on the occasion of Tamil Superstar Rajnikanth’s birthday.

     

    Brodha V, hailing from Bangalore have worked with Vishal-Shekhar and rapped on the song Ready Steady Po from Chennai Express and with Raghu Dixit on the song Dheaon Dheaon from Mujhse Fraandship Karoge. He has also released several DIY style music videos on his YouTube channel which till date have received over a million views. Last year, his latest independent simgle, Aigiri Nandini, likewise has received a great response on YouTube and from critics.

     MUMBAI: In a development that is expected to boost the growth of the thriving fashion industry in India, Myntra.com, today created history in the world of fashion by announcing the shortlisted candidates for the Myntra Fashion Incubator (MFI) program. Renowned designers from the fashion industry, experts in the retail industry along with Myntra’s leadership team revealed the shortlisted names after a rigorous selection process held at Crowne Plaza, Bangalore.

    Close to 30 promising applicants were asked to present their creative and scalable business ideas to the jury explaining their strategy on how their designs and ideas can be transformed into a sustainable business venture through the MFI platform. Live demonstrations of sample designs were displayed by the applicants for the benefit of the judges and audience. The judges–Wendell Rodricks, Rina Dhaka, Rohit Gandhi & Rahul Khanna and Paras Bairoliya–analyzed each participant’s design concept and announced the best applicants in the evening. Industry officials like Anant Daga, CEO,TCNS Clothing company, Sandeep Mukim, CEO, Proline India Ltd, Simeran Bhasin, CMO, Wildcraft were also part of the jury.

     As part of the one year Designer In Residence (DIR) Program, Myntra will provide the selected candidates necessary design and work infrastructure, capital support and mentorship from a team of acclaimed designers. The DIR Program would cover essentials like branding, consumer behaviour, product design & development, pricing, inventory planning, retailing and financial planning among others.

    The first batch of the incubator program will occupy the design space inside the Myntra campus by 15th January 2015 and work full-time on their brand. MFI will also provide these candidates an opportunity to showcase their brands in various platforms as well as to be retailed on Myntra.com. After completing one season, they can also pitch their fashion designs to MFI advisory board for investments to scale their business.

    MUMBAI: Essel Vision Productions Ltd (EVPL), the creative and production studio of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL), has announced a multi-film deal to make its foray into mainstream commercial Hindi films with writer, director and producer, Sanjay Gupta’s White Feather Films.

    The first film to go on floors in January 2015 is directed by Sanjay Gupta. Titled Jazbaa, it is Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s comeback film as the dynamic lead protagonist and also stars Irrfan Khan, Shabana Azmi and Anupam Kher. Jazbaa will be Aishwarya’s first film after a gap of 5 years.

     Essel Vision has, in a short span of three years, emerged as a full-fledged state-of-the-art-studio that is a one-stop destination for all in film making, promotions, advertising, distribution and revenue generating streams. It has built a dynamic portfolio of regional cinema in Marathi and Bengali, top rated television shows and is now venturing into Hindi cinema. Wholly owned by ZEE, Essel Vision is backed by the conglomerate’s vast network of channels including its music company Zee Music.

     After being a trendsetter in Marathi and Bangla cinema and associations with the biggest names in regional language cinema, this announcement is a first from amongst a slate of films being made by Essel Vision.

    ‘Got Talent’ continues its global domination with ‘Mongolia’s Got Talent’

    MUMBAI: The international rollout of the world’s most successful TV format “Got Talent”, took another landmark step today as Syco Entertainment and FremantleMedia announced the commission of Mongolia’s Got Talent by Mongol TV. The news comes after Got Talent creator Simon Cowell’s recent MIPCOM 2014 Keynote session in which he joked about Mongolia being one of the last regions in the world where Got Talent didn’t have a presence. The multi-season deal will see Mongol TV broadcast the first local version of the format in 2015.

    The Guinness World Record-breaking franchise co-produced by Cowell’s Syco Entertainment and FremantleMedia continues its rein as the Most Successful Reality Television Format in history as it travels further around the world with the new version bringing the total number of local versions across Europe, Asia Pacific, the Middle-East, Africa and the Americas to 67 and the total countries in the world to air a version of the format to 193* (see map).

    As well as creating a local version of the format, Mongol TV will acquire season 8 of the ever successful Britain’s Got Talent. These deals were brokered by Haryaty Rahman, VP Sales and Distribution, Asia, FremantleMedia International. The UK version of the show continues to be the UK’s biggest entertainment show and in 2014 the Britain’s Got Talent finale on ITV exceeded 12 million viewers for 7th year in a row!

     

    Simon Cowell said “Mongolia is one of the last countries in the world to have Got Talent on air so I’m absolutely delighted Mongol TV will be making the show next year. So thank you and Congratulations Mongolia!”

    MUMBAI: This month, Sony Max 2 presents its viewers with some of the biggest Bollywood hits through the decades with its ‘Jubilee Hits’ movie festival starting from 14th – 27th December. The iconic movie channel is all set to showcase 13 films from the 1950s to the late 1990s portraying different genres. Reinforcing its positioning of showcasing evergreen movies, the channel aims to end the year by presenting the best of Indian cinema to its viewers.

    Comprising a mix of movies filled with romance, family dramas and social issues, the movie festival fits in perfectly with the festive season by spreading cheer to its viewers through movies of the golden era. Movies that will be showcased as part of this festival include ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’, ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’, ‘Kati Patang’ and ‘Chandni’ to name a few. Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ which has completed 1000 weeks of its run at Maratha Mandir on 12 December is also a part of the festival. This directorial film by Aditya Chopra will enter the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest running Bollywood film ever.

    Kalyan Jewellers expands in Punjab with Rs. 75 crore investment

    MUMBAI: Kalyan Jewellers, one of India’s leading and trusted jewellery brands launched showrooms in Amritsar and Jalandhar launching the Northern leg of the company’s domestic expansion plan. On December 7, Kalyan’s national brand ambassador, Mrs. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan inaugurated both these showrooms. The showroom in Amritsar is located at Mall Road and the showroom in Jalandhar is located at Model Town. The expansion is part of Kalyan Jewellers’ efforts to expand its presence in Punjab with an investment of Rs. 75 crore in the two showrooms. Kalyan Jewellers is also present in Mohali and Ludhiana in Punjab.

    Kalyan Jewellers has added a record 11 showrooms in the last 60 days including inaugurating 5 showrooms on the same day in Kerala recently. Kalyan Jewellers will significantly boost its distribution network in the calendar year 2014 by over 30% with the addition of new showrooms.
