    ‘Shooter daadiya ka andaaz bohot hain tez, jeet na paata koi, jab hove hai goliyon ki race’.  All set to hit the bullseye this Saturday is director Tushar Hiranandani’s perfect entertainer ‘Saand Ki Aankh’ that narrates that true-life story of India’s oldest sharpshooters, Prakashi and Chandro Tomar. Breaking new grounds and leaving ‘umar’ in the background, the dadi’s unbreakable spirit and determination showcased that every woman has the right to glory. Bringing to life this thrilling journey are the award-winning actress Bhumi Pednekar and Taapsee Pannu. Along with them the movie also features Prakash Jha, Viineet Kumar and Pawan Chopra in pivotal roles. Raising a toast to all the womaniyas who never gave up, &pictures is all set to premiere ‘Saand Ki Aankh’ on Saturday, 30th May at 8 pm.

    Speaking about her experience of playing Chandro Tomar, Bhumi Pednekar said, “Shooter dadi’s lives were filled with hardships. After having spent 60 or even more years under the ghungat they finally decided to break the societal stereotypes and see the world. One thing that stayed by me while I played Chandro’s character was that despite leading a happy and wholesome life they were open to change. Their zeal to life, the lingo used to communicate to each other, all of it said that they wanted to live life to the fullest and in its true sense. Imagine they never stepped out of their village but then suddenly, they step out of their comfort zone to travel and represent their nation worldwide. With the movie premiering on &pictures, I hope the story stirs the audience and many more such Chandros and Prakashis are born in our country.” 

    Commenting about this path breaking movie, Taapsee Pannu said, “While movies are made to entertain the audience, they are also looked at as a tool to address prevalent issues in society. Saand Ki Aankh is a movie that was made with the latter intention in mind. Many might not know or agree to it but women in rural areas are kept under the watchful eyes of the men in their houses. It is a story of how two women – Prakashi Tomar and Chandro Tomar decided that enough was enough and took matters into their own hands. They were not only each other’s support system but also the world’s oldest sharpshooters who set an example by taking up the sport at an age when we people usually give up on their ambitions.”

    The movie revolves around the lives of Chandro and Prakashi Tomar who are restricted to their house compound and identified by the colors of their ghungat. Treated as baby making machines, they are married off to take care of their husband and household. From discussing family matters, to deciding the happenings of the day, the patriarch of the family, Rattan Singh (Prakash Jha) has the final say. One day, Yashpal, a man influenced by the urban ways sets up a shooting academy as he believes this can change the lives of the village kids. Driven with the thought their daughters don’t live the kind of lives that they have, the dadi’s enroll their daughters. While trying to make their daughters learn the sport, they themselves land up hitting the bull’s eye which leaves Yashpal in shock. Blown by their perfect shot, Yashpal decides to train them. This makes both the dadi’s believe in their potential as they go on to shatter every stereotype and bring home laurels.

    In the wake of current pandemic, many sectors and industries been adversely impacted resulting in widespread uncertainties. There are growing concerns over livelihood and people are looking for direction and support to survive the economic downturn.  The importance of being represented as a community whichever be the sector is felt now more than ever.  Rallying behind, the music creation fraternity, IPRS has been organizing a series of workshops and webinars to address various issues and offer solutions during the lockdown phase. As part of this sustained effort, The Indian Performing Right Society Ltd. (IPRS) will host a webinar titled ‘Getting Organized during Adversities’, in association with Music Plus on Wednesday, 27th May at 4pm. The session will be LIVE on Music Plus and IPRS social media handles. 

    In this session, some of the finest minds in the music creation space from India and abroad, will be discussing best practices and ways & means to have a sustainable and rewarding future.

    The panelists of the session include luminaries from the music industry such as Mr. Horace Trubridge, General Secretary Musicians’ Union; Mr. Ratish Tagde, President Musicians Federation of India (MFI) and Mr. Vijay Benegal, Sound Engineer and the session will further be moderated by Mr. Atul Churamani, MD Turnkey Music & Representative of IPRS.

Not many are aware of the time and effort put in by sound engineers and technicians who work behind the scenes to create the magic. COVID19 has introduced severe uncertainties that our industry has never before experienced. Moving forward, it is essential for us to come together and create suitable platforms that voice our professional concerns and support each other.”

    Thailand Prime Minister leads National Committee to promote 5G development

    A 26-member National 5G Committee has been formed with Thailand Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha as chairman to coordinate the 5G development and boost the digital economy in the country.

    The committee is also tasked with mitigating obstacles regarding the recall of unused spectrum, from state agencies for the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), in exchange for compensation. It is expected to enhance cooperation between related agencies for 5G development support.

    Deputy prime ministers Somkid Jatusripitak, Prawit Wongsuwon and Wissanu Krea-ngam serve as the deputy chairmen of the committee. The minister of finance, minister of tourism and the minister of education are also part of the committee.

    The permanent secretary for the Digital Economy and Society Ministry serves as the director and secretary of the committee.

    This committee is formed to promote vertical 5G development, ensuring optimum benefits of 5G adoption for the economy and end users. It will promote a clear roadmap for 5G adoption and infrastructure development by ensuring the participation of representatives from key ministries, said Thailand NBTC secretary-general Takorn Tantasith.

    The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted Thailand's major telecom operators to rev up deployment of 5G technologies. The country's top mobile operators are racing to deploy 5G networks at hospitals to support doctors and medical personnel to fight the virus.

    “Application of 5G to public health demonstrates how digital infrastructure can have a significant impact on people's health during a major emergency,” said Buddhipongse Punnakanta, Thailand Digital Economy and Society Minister.

    The Digital Economy and Society Ministry, together with Huawei Technologies Thailand, are providing AI-assisted solutions with 5G technology to hospitals in the country with the aim of enabling output diagnosis results more efficiently through a high-speed network.

    Industrial organizations such as GSMA pointed out that 5G technologies are crucial in the fight against the pandemic and will be a “backbone” for the economic recovery. It is increasingly accepted in the industry that ICT and digital economy will be a major push as work resumes post pandemic.

    Huawei obtains world’s first CC EAL4+ security certificate for 5G products

    Huawei, the global leading provider of ICT technologies, has won the world’s first Common Criteria (CC) Evaluation Assurance Level(EAL)4+ certificate for 5G products. This certificate indicates the security of Huawei 5G base station products reaches the world-leading level and can provide trusted security assurance for 5G wireless access.

    CCN (Centro Criptologico National), a Spain certification authority, officially issued the certificate to Huawei 5900 Series 5G gNodeB software on May 20. The evaluation has been conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Spanish IT Security Evaluation and Certification Scheme, and the conclusions of the evaluation facility in the evaluation technical report are consistent with the evidence adduced, according to CCN.

    CC certification is a widely recognized security certification in the world. There are seven levels. For EAL4+ or higher level, the source code needs to be tested and certified. EAL4 is “the highest level at which it is likely to be economically feasible to retrofit to an existing product line.”

    “Huawei believes that trust needs to be based on facts, facts need to be verifiable, and verification needs to be based on common standards. By using industry practices, certification is the most effective way to address security issues,” said Jay Chen, vice president of Huawei Asia Pacific.

    Huawei has incorporated internationally recognized cyber security certification standards and requirements, such as CC and FIPS, into product R&D, and actively invites third-party labs to certify Huawei products. Currently, its products and solutions have obtained more than 270 security certificates (including CC, FIPS, and CSA).

    “The awarding of the world's first 5G CC EAL4+ certificate once again demonstrates our 5G leadership. Huawei will continue to explore innovative 5G technologies, and to facilitate global operators in achieving 5G commercial use,” Jay added.
