  • Rebecca De Mornay to play title role in ‘Mother’s Day’

    MUMBAI: Rebecca De Mornay has been cast in the title role Mother‘s Day, a Darren Lynn Bousman‘s remake of Charles Kaufman‘s 1980 cult classic.

    The actresses casting is the final piece of the puzzle for the film which begins shooting this month.


    The original Mother‘s Day revolved around three female friends who, while camping, run afoul of two brothers who engage in murder and rape to impress their deranged mother.


    The new version, written by Scott Milam, has been remolded to look as a psychological thriller in which the wicked family returns to the house where they grew up to terrorize the new owners and their guests.


    De Mornay‘s role in the film echoes the evil nanny role she had in 1992‘s The Hand That Rocks the Cradle.

  • Fox Network picks up Davey Holmes’ drama for filming

    MUMBAI: Fox is said to be zeroing in on a casting director for Worthy written by Davey Holmes.

    Executively produced by Holmes and Gavin Polone, the film follows an Arizona politician called ‘Worthy‘ whose struggle to do the right thing takes a wrong turn after he gets involved in a hit-and-run case and gets blackmailed in the bargain.


    Holmes said that the film will feature home pages to real stints of Larry Craig and his bathroom-stall incident. The show was inspired by fallen politicians that include Eliot Spitzer and Rod Blagojevich.


    Though Worthy seemed destined for cable, but an encouraging response from the channel‘s programming chiefs Kevin Reilly and Peter Rice had the script landed at Fox, Holmes said.

    Happy Town won a WGA Award this year in the new series category for writing Treatment. His series credits also include ABC‘s Pushing Daisies and FX‘s Damages.



    In addition to Worthy, Fox recently picked up The Rednecks & Romeos a comedy directed by Mark Brazill.

  • Peter Craig to write Bad Boys 3

    MUMBAI: In its bid to develop a third instalment of Bad Boys, Columbia Pictures has hired Peter Craig to write the screenplay.

    The film features Smith and Lawrence as Miami detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett who are caught up in cases involving car chases and explosions.


    The first part of Boys released in 1995 launched Bay as a director and Smith as an action star even though it grossed $66 million domestically and $141 million worldwide.
    The sequel released in 2003 romped in $138 million domestically and $273 million worldwide.


    Craig has co-written The Town which Ben Affleck is directing for Warner Bros.

  • ‘Final Destination’ opens with $28 million in US, Canada

    MUMBAI: The Final Destination opened as the highest grosser in US and Canadian theatres last weekend with ticket sales of $28.3 million.

    Following it was Inglourious Basterds with $20.04 million. In the third position was Halloween II with $17.4 million.


    The Final Destination follows a group of teens who try to cheat death after one of them has a premonition of a fatal accident.


    The Final Destination is the seventh top debut for Warner Bros. this year, the last being Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

  • Taguig City to host Cinemanila film fest

    MUMBAI: The Taguig City government in the Phillippines will host the 2009 Cinemanila International Film Festival this October.

    Cinemanila is an annual show of the best of world cinema to the Philippines that also showcase the best films made in the country to the rest of the world. The festival will run from 15 to 25 October will also have filmmaking workshops and master classes.


    Cinemanila has promoted the best of Filipino films to world cinema audiences and has championed the development of new and independent Filipino filmmakers.


    For this year‘s edition, Cinemanila has also launched the Machinima Film Festival, a new movement in filmmaking that features real-time animation made into film through artificial intelligence and digital puppetry.

  • ‘Glee’ soundtrack to release on 3 November

    MUMBAI: Twentieth TV has teamed up with Columbia Records to release a series of soundtracks of Fox‘s upcoming musical drama Glee.

    The move follows the success of Don‘t Stop Believin which hit No. 1 on the iTunes chart.


    Glee: The Music, Volume 1 which would be released on 3 November contains 17 tracks of the show‘s first season. Selections on the first soundtrack include renditions of Queen‘s Somebody to Love, Neil Diamond‘s Sweet Caroline and Kanye West‘s Gold Digger.


    Glee premieres on 9 September.

  • Jesse Williams picks up role in ‘Grey‘s Anatomy‘

    MUMBAI: Jesse Williams who has starred in films like Brooklyn‘s Finest, Greek, Crush Landing, The Hotness Monster, Spring Broke and Hotness Monster among others has been cast in ABC‘s serial Grey‘s Anatomy.

    The actor, best known for his role in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 and ABC‘s Greek will appear next in The Cabin in the Woods that is being directed by Drew Goddard and Antoine Fuqua‘s Brooklyn‘s Finest.

  • Michael Bay picks up rights of teen sci-fi franchise

    MUMBAI: Michael Bay known for his direction of Transformers has finalised his next sci-fi franchise. His production company has picked up the rights to I Am Number Four, the first in a series of six books about nine aliens who escape to earth before their planet is destroyed written by James Frey.

    Frey, who co-wrote the series with Jobie Hughes, came into prominence in 2006 when his best-selling ‘memoir‘ A Million Little Pieces took the centre stage on accusation of being fabricated.


    The film follows a particular alien who takes the form of a high school student.

  • ‘Betty Blue’ director to head Busan Film Fest Jury

    MUMBAI: French director Jean-Jacques Beineix is to head the competition jury at this year‘s Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF).

    The director will be at the helm of a five-member panel that will judge the festival‘s ‘New Currents Award‘ given to a promising Asian filmmaker.


    The 62-year-old Beineix is best known for his film Betty Blue that was nominated for best foreign film at the 1987 Academy Awards.

  • Mike Sandejas’ film to attend three international film fests

    MUMBAI: Director Mike Sandejas has announced that his film Dinig Sana Kita will be part of three international film festivals in the next three months.

    These are the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), which will run from 10 to 19 September; the Hawaii International Film Festival, that will be held from15 to 25 October and the Brussels Film Festival that will be take place from 3 to 8 November.


    Title If I Knew What You Said in English the film is described by Raymond Phathanavirangoon as a breath of fresh air.
    Sandejas would attend TIFF with his lead stars Zoe Sandejas and Romalito Mallari.


    Dinig had its theatrical release on Aug. 26. This exercise was to release the film goes to festivals.
