    ‘Fast & Furious 6 proceeds to go to Paul Walker’s charity

    When the Fast and Furious actor Paul Walker passed away during an accident earlier in the week, the entire industry mourned. Now, Universal Pictures has decided to donate a portion of the proceeds from DVD sales of Fast & Furious 6 to Paul Walker’s charity.

     

    The proceeds will be donated to Paul Walker’s non-profit Reach Out WorldWide, a network of professionals with first responder skill-sets who augment local expertise when natural disasters strike in order to accelerate relief efforts. Walker founded the organisation after witnessing deficiencies in local activations following the January 2010 Haiti earthquake, and he remained passionately devoted to the charity.

     

    Fast-Furious-6-box-office“With the passing of Paul, the world has lost a man who spent a great deal of his life in service to others. We share in the deep grief of his family, friends and the countless fans who love him,” said Universal Pictures Chairman Donna Langley in a release.

     

    The actor died at the age of 40 on Saturday while in the passenger seat of a Porsche that struck a pole.

    Alvin Schwartz’s classic spooky tale collection, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, can soon be watched as a film. Reportedly, after a competitive bidding for the project, some of the scariest short stories will be adapted in to screenplay.

     

    Sean Daniel, one of the producers of The Mummy franchise along with Jason Brown of Sean Daniel Company and Elizabeth Grave of 1212 Entertainment will produce the film.

     

    CBS Films has got the rights for the film. Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, who are known for their Saw horror movies, will be writing the screenplay of the movie.

     

    The book was initially published in 1981 and went on to sell seven million copies.

    ‘The Great Gatsby’ leads Australian Academy nominations

    MUMBAI: Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby, based on F Scott Fitzgerald’s classic, leads the nominees for the third annual Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) honors, scoring a total of 14 nominations in almost all categories, including best film and best director.

     

    The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan who have both picked up best acting nominations, while Joel Edgerton, Elizabeth Debicki and Isla Fisher are nominated in the supporting actor and actress categories.

     

    Other best film nominees include Satellite Boy from Catriona McKenzie, which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival this year; Ivan Sen’s Outback crime drama Mystery Road, and Tony Krawitz’ Greece-set drama Dead Europe. The 3rd AACTA Awards will be held on 20 January in Sydney.

    MUMBAI: The company behind the VFX for the BBC’s popular show Doctor Who 50th anniversary special, ‘Day of the Doctor’ – Milk Visual Effects – has been commissioned by the broadcaster to work on the eighth instalment of the series, starring new Doctor Peter Capaldi.

    The company is currently working with BBC to create the VFX for the one-hour Doctor Who Christmas special, ‘The Time of the Doctor’, in which Matt Smith’s Doctor will regenerate into Capaldi’s incoming thirteenth Doctor.
    The 50th anniversary broke records on 23 November when it drew an average audience of 10.2 million in the UK and was simulcast in 94 countries and in more than 1500 cinemas across the world.

    RIP Paul Walker: An ironic death

    MUMBAI: Alanis Morissette’s Ironic took another meaning as the news of death of Fast & Furious franchise’s actor Paul Walker spread.

    The actor who was the integral part of the franchise was killed in a car accident on Saturday on his way to a charity event. Walker, 40, was a passenger in a Porsche sports car driven by a friend, who also died in the crash.

    A statement on the actor’s official Facebook page said that Walker was a passenger in the car, and had been at a charity event for his organisation, Reach Out Worldwide earlier in the day.

    As people got over the shock, condolences started pouring in. His co-star, Vin Diesel posted on Instagram: “Brother I will miss you very much. I am absolutely speechless. Heaven has gained a new Angel. Rest in Peace.”

    Similarly, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson tweeted: “All my strength, love & faith to the Walker family during this heart-breaking time. We find our strength…in his light. Love you brother.”

    The pair was joined by a number of stars and fans paying tribute to Paul, who is survived by his 15-year-old daughter.
    However, one cannot get over the fact that the machine which made him famous, also took his life.

    ASEAN Film Festival to coincide with ScreenSingapore

    The ASEAN Film Festival will run alongside this year’s ScreenSingapore, presenting free screenings at the Bugis+ Filmgarde Cineplex.

     

    The event from 3 to 6 December, which consists of eight films, will open with an invitation-only screening of Anthony Chen and close with Rithy Panh documentary The Missing Picture.

     

    Other films include Kongdej Jaturanrasmee’s Tang Wong from Thailand, Riri Riza Atambua 39° Celsius from Indonesia, and, from Brunei, commercial comedy What’s So Special About Rina Ada apa dengan Rina.

     

    Organised by Objectifs and the Singapore Film Commission (SFC), the one-off event is part of the ASEAN City of Culture initiative. Singapore is the current host city.
