    Nikhil Tanwani’s appointment as CMD gets Baba Arts shareholders’ assent

    MUMBAI: Film and TV production and distribution  company Baba Arts is moving on to the next generation to give it a new thrust. Whole time director and CMD Gordhan P Tanwani’s son Nikhil G Tanwani was appointed as the microcap company’s chairman &  managing director effective 1 November 2024, a couple of days after his father stepped down due to old age and ill health.

    The company had approached its shareholders to give their consent to the proposal through an e-voting ballot process between 3 December 2024 and 1 January 2025. With the evoting closing yesterday, the scrutiniser gave his report which showed that the proposal got 100 per cent of the shareholders assent. Film star Ajay Devgn is one of the shareholders of the company.  

    Baba Arts  informed the Bombay stock exchange on 2 January  as part of its regulatory process that the company and its shareholders had approved of Nikhil’s appointment.

    Baba Arts reported a topline of Rs 12.48 crore and a net profit of Rs 1.97 crore in the year ended March 2024.

    Baba Arts and Baba Films have together produced several films such as Ishq, Pyaar Toh Hona Hi Tha, Dhulhan Hum Le Jayenge, Tumko Nahi Bhool Paayenge, Taarzan – The Wonder Car, Life Main Kabhie Kabhiee, My Friend Ganesha franchise, Action Jackson and many more.

    Meanwhile, actor Kartik Aaryan expressed his joy, stating, “Thank you IMDb for this honour!”

    YRF recruits Ketan-O-Rana as sr manager production & post-prod supervisor

    MUMBAI: He’s an alumnus of Amity University where he graduated in  journalism, and Whistling Woods where he completed his film production and direction diploma. 14 years later  Ketan-O-Rana recently  joined YRF – Yash Raj Films  as senior manager production and post production supervisor.

    Along the way he worked in various capacities in companies such as Equinox Films, Balaji Telefilms, Ramesh Sippy Entertainment either in production or creative. NFDC beckoned and he joined it as a creative director for a couple of years until he was called by Dar Motion Pictures as a writer director – once again for a couple of years.

    Bambai Dreams was his next stop, followed by B62 studios where he rose to become post- production supervisor. He had a six month stint working at Mukta Arts where he worked as an associate on Subhash Ghai’s film. He finally went independent founding his own banner Postman Pictures which he ran for 12 years. He then decided may be it would be good to be employed someplace and joined YRF.

    “I’ve spent years on sets where chaos meets creativity, navigating the showdown between vision and reality. Now, as post production supervisor at Yash Raj Films, I leverage my background as an associate director, producer, and screenwriter. I thrive on the details and those fleeting moments that elevate a story—whether it’s crafting explosive action sequences or executing the cut that just hits right. The reel never stops rolling, and I’m committed to making every frame count,” Ketan  said on Linkedin while announcing his appointment at YRF.

    MUMBAI: It’s the coming together of a successful legacy studio and a new age creative production banner. Yash Raj Films (YRF)  today announced that it is partnering with series producer Posham Pa Pictures to jointly develop and produce theatrical films beginning 2025.  

    YRF is known for several iconic films like Chandni, Kaala Patthar, Lamhe,  Darr, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Chak De! India, Dhoom and others. Posham Pa Pictures has been behind streaming series such as Netflix’s Kaala Paani, Mamla Legal Hai and Jaadugar and Disney+ Hotstar’s Home Shanti.

    The partnership marks Posham Pa’s foray into theatrical films releases. YRF will provide it with the studio infrastructure and its strong distribution capabilities, which is the vision of Aditya Chopra – the son of YRF founder, the late Yash Chopra. The transformation of YRF from being just a producer to a studio is being led by the firm’s CEO Akshaye Widhani. 

    Said Widhani: “It is truly the coming together of similar creative minds that are constantly striving for excellence by pushing the content envelope. Posham Pa Pictures have shown that they know the pulse of the audience by giving us unique and incredibly fresh stories that have won them unanimous acclaim. Our partnership will now aim to create ground-breaking theatrical experiences for today’s audiences who are seeking out new and novel storytelling to engage, endorse & celebrate.”

    Posham Pa was founded by partners Sameer Saxena, Amit Golani, Biswapati Sarkar and Saurabh Khanna.

    Venus Productions join forces with Span Communications

    Mumbai: Venus Productions joined forces with the creative agency Span Communications to produce a video campaign of five films for Madhya Pradesh (MP) Tourism. The first of the campaign features Pankaj Tripathi as the brand ambassador.

    The film showcases the best of MP under the direction of Ravi Jain – a seasoned director at Venus Productions. The campaign was overseen by filmmaker Vishal Bharadwaj, who has deep-rooted connections to the state. The film was shot in around 20 days including Gwalior, Ujjain, Orccha, Khajuraho and the jungles of Bandhavgarh, Kanha, Panna, Pench and Satpura.

    The film begins with a funny twist—Pankaj Tripathi struggling to act against a green screen, humorously showcasing the limitations of staged performances. This light- hearted setup transitions into breathtaking visuals of Madhya Pradesh’s rich offerings: the architectural marvel of Khajuraho, the spiritual essence of Ujjain, and thrilling wildlife adventures, among others. This dynamic approach, complemented by lyricist Irshaad Kamil’s poignant words, composer Abhishek Arora’s evocative score, and the powerful vocals of Divya Kumar, captures the audience’s imagination and evokes a profound wanderlust.

    Commenting about his experience, Tripathi said, “Madhya Pradesh is a treasure for nature and history lovers. This project is special because it brings together the region’s natural beauty and cultural heritage. Being part of this campaign feels like a journey into India’s heart. Dono Stree 1 & 2 ke alawa aur 5-6 films ki shoot maine MP main shoot kar chuka hoon aur ussi dohraan maine pura MP dekha hai, Har bar yaha bilkul ghar wali feeling aati hai.”

    Director Ravi Jain expressed his excitement, stating, “MP Tourism is one of the top brands in Indian advertising scene. Being an advertising director, this five – film campaign holds a special significance for me. And more so as I got the opportunity to work with the best of the best – Pankaj ji, Vishal Sir, Irshad ji and Abhishek Arora. It is a dream team and I am filled with gratitude for this project. For this particular film, we kept intact Pankaj ji’s persona unaltered. The film appeals to all ages as they see the real Pankaj Tripathi who they love in his films and in real.     MUMBAI: Recently, she has been posting on Linkedin only when she gets a promotion. Two years ago, Vibha Chopra had put out an update on the professional site when she moved on from Amazon Prime Video to Netflix as head of Hindi film licensing in India.

    On 13 November,  once again she used the platform to  announce that she had been promoted in the Ted Sarandos-headed organisation. “Stoked to share that I am starting my new position as director – Hindi film licensing at Netflix, India,” she stated on Linkedin.

    Chopra has come a long way from the time she was heading global syndication and international film distribution at Zee Entertainment for two years. And prior to that the fitness enthusiast headed Zee Film Studios International in Mumbai for four years. Before that Chopra spent a good three years at Zee America as vice-president brand solutions and special projects.

    Mumbai, October 29, 2024: UFO Moviez announced its financial results for the quarter and half year ended 30 September 2024.              

    Financial Highlights:

    Quarter ended 30 September 2024

    Q2FY25 saw an 11 per cent YoY increase in total revenue, driven by growth in theatrical and exhibitor revenue. However, advertising revenue remained subdued due to the mixed performance of film releases during the quarter.

    ·       Consolidated Revenues grew by 11 per cent from Rs 871 mn in Q2FY24 to ₹ 968 mn in Q2FY25,  

    ·       EBITDA for the quarter stood at Rs 102 mn, compared to ₹ 177 mn in Q2FY24,

    ·       Reported a pre-tax loss of Rs six mn in Q2FY25, compared to the profit of ₹ 55 mn in Q2FY24,

    ·       Reported Net loss of Rs 9 mn in Q2FY25, compared to a Net profit of ₹ 33 mn in Q2FY24.

    Half Year September 30, 2024

    ·       Consolidated Revenues grew by 11 per cent from Rs 1,913 mn versus Rs 1,725 mn in H1FY24,

    ·       EBITDA stood at Rs 168 mn versus ₹ 340 mn in H1FY24,

    ·       Reported loss of ₹ 49 mn at PBT level versus the profit of ₹ 90 mn in H1FY24,

    ·       Reported Net loss of Rs 50 mn, compared to the Net profit of ₹ 58 mn in H1FY24.

    “Q2FY25 highlighted the impact of quality content and underscored the need for consistency in successful releases across languages,” said executive director & group CEO Rajesh Mishra. “While some releases performed well, the underperformance of a few titles, along with a lack of successful Hindi films in September, contributed to muted advertising revenue. However, growth in theatrical and exhibitor revenue supported the overall performance, reaffirming the resilience of in-cinema entertainment. Looking ahead, with a strong lineup of upcoming releases such as Singham Again, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, Pushpa 2 etc, we are optimistic about building momentum in the upcoming quarters.”
