    Salman Khan’s Being Human forays into film production

    MUMBAI: The latest development is that Dr. Cabbie, an upcoming venture will be presented by Salman Khan‘s Being Human Productions.

    Dr. Cabbie is the story of an Indian immigrant and for Khan, it has an inherent universal appeal. The film is the heart warming journey of a young Indian doctor who migrates to Canada with the selfless ambition of healing others while beginning a new life in the land of opportunity.

    The lead character discovers his true purpose and true love when he embarks upon this journey of a doctor turned cabbie. In the bargain the unemployed doctor turned cabbie becomes a local hero when he converts his taxi into a mobile clinic.

    Produced by FirstTake Entertainment and Caramel Films, Dr. Cabbie stars Vinay Virmani and Adrianne Palicki.

    The film, to be directed by one of Canada‘s most acclaimed director Jean-Francois Poulliot, will be released by Eros international (Indian subcontinent) and Entertainment One (Canada).

    India and Bangladesh to Consider Joint Collaboration on Mega-Film on “War of Liberation”

    NEW DELHI: India and Bangladesh are to collaborate to jointly produce a film n the War of Liberation of the former east Pakistan and a roadmap in this connection will be drawn up shortly.


    Bangladesh Minister for Information & Broadcasting Hasanul Haq Inu today requested his Indian counterpart Manish Tewari that the Government of India consider providing the names of the soldiers who had laid down their lives during the War of Liberation. He reiterated that the Government of Bangladesh would like to recognize their contribution made during this historical event.


    The two Ministers had extensive discussions on critical issues related to Information and Broadcasting Sector.


    Both the Ministers agreed to explore the possibility of setting up a joint working group on the critical sectors of the information and broadcasting domain to provide a roadmap for future collaborations between the two countries.


    The Bangladesh Information Minister also requested Tewari to facilitate the downlinking of Bangladesh TV Channels through the private distribution network into India.


    Both Ministers agreed to intensify the collaboration between Prasar Bharati and Bangladesh State Television in view of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two entities in 2011. The MoU had focused on mutual cooperation in the broadcast of television programmes between the two broadcasters. It was also mentioned that both countries could consider exchange of programmes and also explore the possibility of executive TV co-production.


    Both Tewari and Inu discussed the possibility of strengthening collaboration as far as training and capacity building was concerned between institutions of mutual interests.


    During the discussions, the Ministers agreed to facilitate the exchange of archival material between the two countries. In this context, Tewari highlighted the major policy initiatives undertaken by the Ministry that had enabled the sector to grow exponentially.


    Specific reference was made to the initiatives undertaken by the Ministry to commemorate 100 years of Indian Cinema, the Digitization programme and the policies that were introduced to promote inclusive growth in the country. Both the Ministers were assisted by senior officials of the Ministries of India and Bangladesh.

    Liberty cinema to reopen with Ek Thi Daayan

    MUMBAI: The oldest movie hall in South Mumbai Liberty Cinema that had closed down for a few months is all set to reopen with Ekta Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj‘s Emraan Hashmi-starrer Ek Thi Dayaan on 19 April.

    Since the cinema hall was built in 1947, the year of Indian Independence, its founder Habib Hoosein decided to name it Liberty. The cinema hall screens Hindi movies.

    Some films have run at Liberty for a considerable period of time. Mehboob Khan‘s Mother India ran for a whole year starting October 1957 at the same hall. Almost three decades later Rajshri‘s Hum Aapke Hain Kaun] ran for 105 weeks in regular shows and 16 weeks in the matinee shows from 1994 onwards till it completed its 100th week run in August 1996.

    Balaji has decided to support the single screen with its other heavy-duty forthcoming releases like Shootout At Wadala, Lootera and Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai…Again. Said Liberty Cinema owner Vazir Hussain, "We have four films lined up. We will see how it goes."

    The cinema hall had closed down for a couple of months in the wake of increasing competition from neighbouring cinemas outlets like Sterling, Eros, New Excelsior and Regal.

    Single Window Clearance Mechanism for Shooting of Foreign Films in India Shortly: Tewari

    NEW DELHI: A notification is being issued soon for constitution of an Inter-Ministerial Empowered Committee which would provide single window clearance for shooting of foreign films in India.

    Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari today said the proposed committee would include representatives of the State Governments and key Central Government Ministries. The creation of such an empowered committee would provide the platform and impetus to promote India as a filming destination across the world.

    He said the Justice Mudgal Committee constituted to review the mandate and functioning of the Central Board of Film Certification and to recommend measures including statutory changes to enable CBFC to deal with contemporary requirements of certification and increased transparency / efficiency was expected to submit its recommendations shortly. These recommendations would enable the Ministry to review the legal architecture for the film certification process. Tewari added that the mandate of the Committee was extremely comprehensive and would provide the roadmap for the future.

    The Committee would also review the categories of certification, existing and proposed, under the Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill, 2013. This will be done to review the mandate and functioning of Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) in order to make it a more efficacious appellate body and to examine the role of Central Government regarding sanctioning of cinematograph films for exhibition under Entry 60, List I of the Seventh Schedule to the Constitution of India vis-?-vis Entry 33, List II of the Seventh Schedule to the Constitution of India.

    Delivering his key note address at the release of the Limca Book of Records 2013 dedicated to 100 years of Indian Cinema, Tewari said this initiative was an important step as the country was celebrating 100 years of Indian Cinema. He said the publication was a true tribute to the cinematic heritage of India. It had enabled the country to project the power of cinema across the globe and promote India’s image as a soft power.

    On the occasion, the Minister also felicitated cinema luminaries for their contribution to the medium and conferred on them “People of the Year” Awards. They included actor Shabana Azmi, cinematographer Santosh Sivan, director Jahnu Barua, choreographer, actor and director Prabhu Deva, maker of wildlife documentaries Mike Pandey, and Telegu film maker K Viswanath.

    MUMBAI: Indian production and distribution company Eros International Media Ltd has announced its strategic tie-up with global recorded music company Sony music Entertainment for the music launch of its upcoming film Go Goa Gone.

    Eros said in a press statement that the music of Go Goa Gone will be distributed under the co-branding of Sony Music and Eros Music labels.

    Eros International managing director Sunil Lulla said, "We are happy to partner Sony Music, an established player in the music domain for the sound track of Go Goa Gone, which is very upbeat, aptly suited to the film‘s genre. By joining hands together, we hope to optimally exploit this highly anticipated title."

    Talking about the tie up, Sony Music Entertainment president India and Middle East Shridhar Subramaniam said, "We are delighted to work with Eros Entertainment and we are confident this is a beginning of a new and long standing relationship. The music of Go Goa Gone is cutting edge and we are already getting great response across radio, TV and from music enthusiasts".

    Go Goa Gone stars Saif Ali Khan and will hit the theaters on the coming 10 May.

    Pradeep Sarkar to helm YRF’s next Mardaani

    MUMBAI: After directing Laaga Chunari Mein Daag for Yash Raj Films in 2007 and Lafanggey Parindey in 2010, Pradeep Sarkar is back with the production house all set to helm Mardaani.

    Starring Rani Mukerji in the lead, who will play the role of a cop for the first time, the raw and gritty film will be YRF‘s boldest subject ever to be made and is a distinct departure from Sarkar‘s style of filmmaking.

    Produced by Aditya Chopra, the film will go on floors by the last quarter of the year and is slated for a 2014 release worldwide.

    In 2005, Sarkar made his directorial debut with the Vidya Balan, Saif Ali Khan-starrer Parineeta which earned him the national film award for best direction.

    MUMBAi: Lata Mangeshkar will present the Deenanath Mangeshkar Award (Vishesh Puraskar) to veteran Bollywood actress and Rajya Sabha member Jaya Bachchan on 24 April. The 65-year old actress will be presented with the award for her dedicated services to Indian theatre and cinema on the death anniversary of Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar.

    Incidentally, Bachchan played a rising playback singer in the Hrishikesh Mukherjee helmed film Abhimaan where she played a character that was said to be modeled on the then leading songstress Lata Mangeshkar.

    "I remember she (Jaya) would come for my song recordings before she began shooting for Abhimaan. During my recordings she used to stare at me and I kept wondering as to why she was doing this. When I saw the film, I noticed that she had copied my gestures, like the way I used to stand, adjust my pallu among a few other things," the singer averred.

    The Master Deenanath Award, instituted in the name of Mangeshkar‘s father, recognizes service in the field of music and films.

    Suresh Wadkar and Vandana Gupte will be awarded for their contribution to Marathi theatre and cinema.

    Veteran musicians, artists, actors, dramatists and social workers will also be honoured by awards that will consist of a memento and cash prize of Rs 101,001.

    MUMBAI: The release date of Vikram Bhatt‘s Ankur Arora Murder Case has been pushed back by a week. The film is now set to release on 24 May. The film addresses the flaws in the medical profession and stars K K Menon in the leading role of an eminent surgeon.

    The film, written by Bhatt and directed by Suhail Tatari, takes up an urgent and disturbing issue of death during surgery and is based on a real-life incident where a boy dies on the operation table due to medical negligence

    Other actors in the film include Tisca Chopra, Paoli Dam and Arjun Mathur.

    Bhatt said, "I am aiming at making a realistic drama on one of middle class Indian‘s biggest fears- death in a hospital. I‘m deeply disturbed by the spate of deaths due to medical negligence. We presume only the poor die due to medical negligence. Not so. The rich who can afford the best treatment also perish because someone in the operation theatre goofs up. It‘s very important to not let gross medical negligence go unpunished. We are saying that Ankur Arora didn‘t die just because doctors failed to save him; instead, it was plain murder."

    MUMBAI: Rakesh Roshan has decided to push back the release date of his upcoming film Krrish 3 by two days. The film that was to release on 1 November (Friday) will now release on 3 November (Sunday).


    Krrish 3 was slated for a Diwali release (1 November). On this day most people do not prefer to leave their houses. Hence there were chances that they may not venture out to see the film too.


    Third November happens to be the Sunday on which the auspicious Laxmi Puja will take place. Roshan felt that the film‘s opening may take a beating cause of this.


    Krrish 3, the third installment of the Koi Mil Gaya series stars Hrithik Rishan, Priyanka Chopra, Vivek Oberoi and Kangna Ranaut.

    MUMBAI: Through a joint venture, T-Series and Vishesh Films have come together yet again to take their successful musical franchise – Aashiqui forward.

    While the musical drama that released over two decades ago starred Rahul Roy and Anu Agarwal in career changing roles, the latest installment Aashiqui 2, directed by Mohit Suri stars Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapoor in the lead.

    Contrary to the reports, Aashiqui 2 is not a sequel to Aashiqui, clarifies director Suri, "It‘s a new story. The only similarity is the music and the love story. There are seven to eight songs in the film; it‘s a musical."

    Talking about what you can expect from the film, producer Mukesh Bhatt says, "It‘s a contemporary love story dealing with mature emotions. All three actors have extremely challenging dramatic roles. It‘s not a film about only looking good, singing and dancing.

    hese are performance-oriented parts, and we‘re convinced that Aashiqui 2 would do for Shraddha, Aditya and Shaad what the first Aashiqui did for Rahul, Anu and Deepak Tijori."
    Keeping with the brand of the film, the music yet again continues to remain a highlight with the first song Tum Hi Ho already making waves on the music front. Avers co-producer Bhushan Kumar, "We‘ve already recorded some songs for Aashiqui 2 and we‘re confident that the audience will enjoy them."

    Aashiqui 2 is scheduled to release on 26 April 2013.
