‘Raanjhanaa’ director shake hands with Dhanush for his next film

MUMBAI: Director Anand L Rai, whose Raanjhanaa generated good response at the box office, is coming up with another romantic film and is currently working on the script.

The making of script is currently under process, and if sources are to be believed by Diwali, Rai will be in a position to talk about the project.

Raanjhanaa was a story of a Hindu Banarasi boy falling in love with a Muslim girl and giving away his life for her.

Rai who thinks that people have lost faith in love, strongly feels that one way of keeping the romance alive is through films. He feels sad (to) see this as love is an integral part of life

‘Kolaveri Di’-fame south star Dhanush, who made his Bollywood debut with Raanjhanaa, will be working together with Rai again for a film, tentatively from the same genre.

To top it all, his one more project is the sequel to 2011 romcom Tanu Weds Manu. However, Rai did not elaborate on this piece.

  • Delhi High Court dismisses plea seeking ban on movie ‘Ram-Leela’

Delhi High Court dismisses plea seeking ban on movie ‘Ram-Leela’

NEW DELHI: Even as the Delhi High Court has dismissed a public interest litigation seeking a ban on the release of the movie Ram-Leela on the ground that it would hurt the religious sentiments of people, a review petition is coming up on this issue in the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court later this week.

A division bench of Chief Justice N V Ramana and Justice Manmohan of Delhi High Court imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on NGO Rashtravadi Shiv Sena which filed the plea wanting a change of title of the movie starring Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone should be changed as it hurts the religious sentiments of people.

(The Allahabad High Court had earlier rejected a similar petition by social activist Nutan Thakur on the ground that the film had not been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification. However, Thakur has filed a review on the plea that the trailer has been passed by the CBFC.)

Ram-Leela, which is scheduled to be released on 15 November, has been directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

The plea in Delhi filed by the NGO’s president Jai Bhagwan Goyal said: “The title Ram-Leela which is understood by Hindus as enactment of the life and story of Lord Ram (Maryada Purshottam), is nowhere doing the same but on the contrary the film is portraying sex, violence and vulgarity, which is deeply hurting the religious sentiments and feelings of Hindus.”

“The enactment, production and scheduled release of the film Ram-Leela is a gross insult to the religious feelings of Hindus,” the plea said, adding the objection is only in respect of naming such a film Ram-Leela.

MUMBAI: Navratri is not the best period to release a film as visiting a cinema hall is last thing to do on people’s mind as the observance of this nine day festival with Garba and Dandiya raas in Western India, Pujo in the East and Ramleela in Hindi belt keep the people busy. Despite this, four films released last Friday to disastrous results. While Baat Ban Gayee, Kya Hua Achanak and Paapi were lost without trace, War Chhod Na Yaar starring Sharman Joshi, Javed Jaff and Soha Ali Khan survived but just barely. The film collected Rs 4.4 crore for its opening weekend.

Besharam managed a nine day first week of Rs 50.3 crore of which Rs 18.5 crore came from the unsuspecting opening day audience; the film went on sliding down on days that followed as its bad reports caught on. Warning 3D/2D has run out of steam adding just Rs 15 lakh in its second week to take its two week total to Rs 3.35 crore.
