    PC launches the GUESS 2013 holiday collection

    MUMBAI: Actor Priyanka Chopra, who became the first actor from Bollywood to represent the international brand GUESS, recently launched the brand’s 2013 Holiday Collection at its flagship store in Mumbai.

     

    Priyanka portrays a movie star at home in an elegant Mediterranean villa wearing some of the season’s most stand-out dresses in the Holiday collection. The actor launched and unveiled the line’s signature form-fitting dresses and a headliner this season – the black mini with a floral twist.

     

    Singer-turned-photographer Bryan Adams captured the actor in her glamorous free spirited best in a series of black and white photographs when Guess had announced the association earlier in November.

     

    Guess creative director Paul Marciano in a release said, “Priyanka’s confidence, strength and sensuality reflect the qualities I always look for in a model. Priyanka Chopra reminds me of Sophia Loren, the top actresses of the 1950s. With the Indian movie industry exploding on a global stage, and Guess having a brand presence in 87 countries, we could not have found a better global brand ambassador. Choosing Priyanka reinforces our celebration of multi-talented, dynamic and accomplished women.”

    MUMBAI: When Bhushan Kumar, son of T-series founder, late Gulshan Kumar, entered in the business, nobody was sure if he would be able to create the same musical magic that his father created. But it seems he is rising above his father’s shadow. After creating ripples with the melodious music of Aashiqui 2 earlier in the year, now even T-series’ second venture Yaariyaan seems to be getting a lot of attention, especially from the youngsters.

     

    One of the songs, Baarish from the film that was launched earlier this week already seems to be popular among the masses. Reports suggest that the song that features lead actors Himansh Kohli and Rakul Preet, has already got 1,138,752 hits in just four days. Despite a fresh cast, such an overwhelming response is really surprising.

     

    The film is being directed by Divya Khosla Kumar and is based on the life of college-going youngsters. It is scheduled to release on 10 January 2014.

    MUMBAI: Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, who has quite a few awards and critical acclaims in his kitty including a National Award for his film Fashion, recently got another appreciation.

     

    The filmmaker, who visited Russia to attended The Indian Film Week In Russia from 25 November to 3 December, 2013 organised by the Indian Embassy, Moscow in association with the Jawaharlal Nehru Cultural Center, Moscow, was felicitated by the Indian Ambassador of Russia, Ajai Malhotra in Moscow for his contribution to Indian Cinema.

     

    Besides, two of Bhandarkar’s films, Heroine and Page 3 were also screened during the week.

    MUMBAI: With movies like Ajab Gazab Prem, FALTU etc, actor Jackky Bhagnani has almost become a youth icon. Now, the actor will be seen in MSM Motion Pictures and Vashu Bhagnani, Youngistan, a love story set in the backdrop of Indian politics. The film, besides Jackky stars Neha Sharma, Farooq Shaikh and Boman Irani.

    While the first schedule of the film has been shot overseas and Lucknow, the second schedule of the film will go on floors soon at the picturesque Taj Mahal in Agra making it the ideal locale to launch the film and its unique campaign titled “Yo Youngistan Go Youngistan”. Uttar Pradesh lends itself very nicely to this film that has a political backdrop. To add to it, Agra, a symbol of power and love supplements the entire setting. Yo Youngistan Go Youngistan is a ground rally that will travel across the country and collect youth pledges and will also see several youth icons from various walks of life join Jackky Bhagnani in getting the young Indians to pledge to vote. The campaign will also generate findings on the change Young India wishes to see in their policies and their politicians.
    Jackky Bhagnani said in a press release, “For me as the name suggests Youngistan stands for the youth by the youth and of the youth of India. The film is a common live story in a very uncommon premise “.

    The film is scheduled to release on 1 May 2014.

    Navi Mumbai gears up for its first film festival

    MUMBAI: Navi Mumbai, known as the satellite city of Mumbai, will hold its first ever Film Festival, Navi Mumbai International Film Festival (NMIFF) from 31 January to 2 February, 2014. The festival will be held at the DY Patil Auditorium in Nerul, one of the largest auditoriums in the city.

    The festival has been founded with the aim to give a global exposure to the budding film makers. The film buffs will have a repository of fine movies from various genres from across the globe.

    The festival is open to film makers from across the globe and appreciates all genres of film making. The films to be screened have been slotted in three categories – student shorts, professional shorts and feature films. These categories are inclusive of short films, AD films, animation, documentaries, music videos and social awareness films. NMIFF will be screening around 22 movies in three days. The winners will be selected by a panel of esteemed jury members and awarded with cash prizes and trophies.

    NMIFF Chairman and founder Sachin Khanna, said, “NMIFF is determined to providing an international platform to talented filmmakers. We want Navi Mumbai to be highlighted as International spot which is yet deprived of any festival like this. This will expose local talent too of the area on world map. This is our first year and we have already received an overwhelming response and are looking forward to a great three day festival showcasing some of the best films.”

    MUMBAI: Suneel Darshan, who has given hits like Ek Rishtaa starring Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar and Andaaz starring Akshay Kumar, Lara Dutta and Priyanka Chopra, is back from a six year sabbatical to give his young son Shiv Darshan a grand entry into Bollywood.

     

    The filmmaker will be producing a film after a long time, also providing a launch pad to his son. However, looking at the popularity of the comic genre of late, the filmmaker is planning a romantic comedy, Karle Pyaar Karle.

     

    Shiv has studied acting and dancing in New York.

     

    Femins Miss India Earth 2011, Hasleen Kaur plays the main lead opposite Shiv in the film.

    MUMBAI: Choreographer turned actor Javed Jaffrey seems to be doing really well for himself in the acting arena. Jaffery, who has done some good roles in films like Salaam Namaste, Dhamaal, Singh Is King and many others will soon be seen a comic avatar once again for BR Entertainment’s Mr. Joe B Carvalho starring Arshad Warsi and Soha Ali Khan.

     

    Javed will be seen playing different characters in the film. According to sources, for one particular character of a Maharashtrian woman, Javed himself did his makeup of putting the prosthetic s and making it look as authentic as possible.

     

    According to a source, prosthetics were specially flown down from Thailand, but due to some technical error it could not reach Mumbai on time and thus Javed had to don the role of a make-up artist as well.

     

    However, he seemed to be a pro at it as he has portrayed a woman even earlier. While he had a fair idea about what goes into the makeup of a prosthetic, to get it perfectly he did a detailed research on the net, shocking everyone on the sets with a super real look.

     

    Well, so now we will know when we see the Maharashtrian character played by Javed on-screen that he has put a lot of effort get into the character.

    Release of Ragini MMS 2 postponed

    MUMBAI: What was supposed to be the second outing of porn star-turned-reality TV star-turned actor, Sunny Leone seems to be facing a hurdle.

     

    The film that has been produced by Balalji Motion Pictures was earlier supposed to release in October, 2013. However, an official announcement was made by Balaji that it would release on January 10. Now, with another announcement, the release has been rescheduled to March 21.

     

    The film in being billed as a ‘horrex’ – a combination of horror and sex and is the sequel of the 2011 sleeper hit, Ragini MMS.

     

    The reason for this change is said to be the VFX and upgrading work.
    In a statement issued to the press, Balaji’s Ekta Kapoor said, “We need substantial time to bring quality visual effects to the big screen. After the success of the first film, the bar has been raised. The Ragini MMS sequel promises to be the sexiest and scariest date movie ever.”
