    Sangeeta Chacko honoured with ‘Outstanding International Business Communicator’

    MUMBAI: Percept’s corporate communication head Sangeeta Chacko was conferred with the esteemed ‘Outstanding International Business Communicator 2013 Award’ by the National Organisation of Commerce and Industry (NOCI) in Thailand.

    The award recognised her dynamic and proactive role in conceptualising and leading a wide spectrum of communication activities including ATL & BTL stakeholder communication, advertising, PR, brand marketing, business development, digital & social media marketing and corporate social responsibility (CSR). It also recognised and honoured her multifaceted and innovative styles in communication designs, platforms and methodologies.

    The National Organisation of Commerce and Industry (NOCI) instituted the first edition of the ‘Outstanding International Awards’ in the APAC region with an aim to felicitate excellence in business and outstanding contribution made by individuals and institutions towards Society and National Welfare. The award recognised the international influence and impact the recipients demonstrated via their exemplary work across the fields of Business, Leadership, Communications, Health, Education, Tourism, Entrepreneurship, Banking and Social Causes.

    The Jury panel comprised senior stalwarts from various industrial fields renowned for their contribution towards the economic, professional and educational fields in India and overseas. The awards are a testimony towards the proactive attitude, innovation, contribution and global perspective reflected by the recipient towards business and economy.

    MUMBAI: Cheil Worldwide SW Asia has appointed Atishi Pradhan as chief strategy officer.

    At the agency, Pradhan will lead the integrated strategy function, encompassing traditional, digital, retail and experiential divisions. She will also be spearheading the agency’s proprietary category/consumer knowledge initiatives and guide both current and potential clients on brand marketing strategies.

    On the appointment, Cheil Worldwide SW Asia chief operating officer Hari Krishnan said, “We are delighted to have Atishi on board to lead our integrated strategy function. As Cheil exponentially continues to grow business and capability, the need is to establish thought leadership.     Monster India shakes up passive jobseekers with new campaign

    MUMBAI: We wake up every morning; follow our usual routine, sleepwalk our way to work, complete our average jobs and then crib about not being happy. This is the situation with many people in the country and thus Monster India, one of the leading online career and recruitment solutions provider and flagship brand of Monster Worldwide, has launched a new campaign “Wake Up” with an aim to jiggle the passive jobseekers to take an action.

    Monster India has launched its new brand positioning of ‘Find Better’ with a tag line – ‘Get lucky. Get Active on Monster’. The campaign addresses a majority of jobseekers who become comfortable with their average jobs and are ignorant of the limitless opportunities that exist. The campaign urges them to rise above mediocrity, ‘Wake- up’ to their true potential and capitalise the opportunity.

    The company has put in a lot of creativity to grab the attention of jobseekers. “We had to come up with a creative idea that would not just make people sit up and notice but actually wake them up. So we thought of several ideas and ways to wake people up. Need we say, we put those many waking hours! We had a ball too, going from fiction to mythology to the jungles and almost everywhere. So while a shrilly opera singer, a bleating sheep and a goofy Tarzan try to wake up our protagonist, we had to go underwater to find the ideal one to wake our guy up – someone more dead than him!” said Dentsu Marcom National Creative Director Titus Upputuru.

    The new campaign has been launched after a recent global survey conducted by Monster and Gfk that revealed that “70 percent people have expressed that they are content with their current jobs but they are not”.

    “Their feedback made it evident that they would like to explore more. Hence, ‘Wake Up’ call is targeted at this vast majority of people who need to make the most out of the opportunity that exists out there,” said Monster.com managing director Sanjay Modi.

    ‘Wake Up’ is a unique proposition that uses interesting relatable characters to convey the core message strongly. The serious message of ‘wake up to the new opportunity’ is communicated in a unique and creative fashion with the use of animation that e-recruitment category in India has never seen. The campaign conveys the message in a direct, clean and humorous manner.

    MUMBAI: The latest advertisement to hit television screens is testimony to the fact that advertisers can’t seem to get enough of children when it comes to publicising brands. And this includes brands which don’t target kids; not even remotely.

    The ad in question is for IDBI Bank and rolls with a little girl sitting beside her friend, saying she loves to eat ganna (sugarcane) but can’t until she gets a new set of teeth which is why her pal is busy peeling it for her. The commercial ends with a voiceover: ‘Bank aisa, dost jaisa’. Two other ads are part of the campaign conceptualised by Ogilvy & Mather (O&M) and have children speaking of their friends in different scenarios.

    O&M NCD Abhijit Avasthi exults: “When we started work on the new campaign of IDBI Bank, we were very clear that we are changing the campaign and not the values that the bank stands for. The idea we came up with does exactly this. In an innocent and charming way, we are telling people ‘What if a bank would do what a friend would do’. When you say something like this, you really don’t need to say much more.”

    Indeed, the ad has charmed its way into people’s hearts, especially on social media. But that doesn’t stop one from wondering what kids can possibly have in common with a bank!

    Again, this isn’t the first instance where children have been used to sell products and services which they have nothing to do with; be it detergents, power inverters, cars, insurance policies or e-commerce websites. So what is it about kids that advertisers find so attractive? Ad veteran Alyque Padamsee reasons that people notice kids more than they do adults. “It is heart warming to see kids on screen. And who does not love them?” says he.

    Padamsee gives the example of Vodafone’s earlier campaign. “Vodafone used a little boy and her dog for its ‘everywhere you go, our network follows’ campaign, and it worked for them. Everyone remembers the commercial and it beautifully conveys the message the telecom company wants to tell people.”

    “Anything in life can be told through the eyes of a child. It’s not difficult,” says BBDO’s chairman and chief creative officer Josy Paul who elaborates on the point by giving the example of the agency David (founded in 2000 by BBDO) and adds, “When you joined the agency you got a resignation letter, not an appointment letter. You had to resign from adulthood to join David. The whole philosophy was to think like a child.”

    The other factor is that kids today play an important role in family decisions, say buying a car. Remember the ad with the Sardar kid whose car doesn’t run out of petrol ever – that’s how Maruti Suzuki tried to convince people about the car’s performance.

    Ernst & Young consultant (media) Mihir Date goes to the extent of calling present-day children decision makers. “What they watch on television is what they want. For example, my nephew only watches Cartoon Network but wants everything shown on the channel, be it a kiddie product or not,” he says.

    Peer pressure too plays an important part where kids want what their friends have; points out Date, adding, “And marketers have been smart enough to understand the GenY. It is working in their favour to use kids in advertisements wherein both kids and parents get targeted.”

    There are enough and more examples where brands and their creative agencies have used situations or scenarios where kids fit in beautifully, and the overall image is always happy and colourful. Say Nerolac paints, now being promoted by Shah Rukh Khan, which earlier had the jingle ‘Jab Ghar Ki Raunak Badhani Ho’ with happy scenes of children prancing around while the walls of their homes are being painted in bright colours.

    However, there’s a flip side as well to using kids in commercials.

    Says ad film director Prahlad Kakar, “If the brand value or what they stand for is not woven well into the story, then the message will be lost.”

    Padamsee agrees: “Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan are all over the place. They endorse so many brands; do we remember which commercial stands for which brand? Hardly… Similarly, one might notice and love the kids in an advertisement but that doesn’t mean that people will remember the brand. Many a times, the ad gets noticed but the brand isn’t.”

    While this is an open debate, it’s true that putting children in the ad is a sure way of getting viewers to like it, most of the times at least…

    Mike Wilson to spearhead new Australia operations for Havas

    MUMBAI: Havas, one of the world’s largest advertising groups, has announced the launch of a new fully-owned media agency in Sydney, to be spearheaded by award winning media personality Mike Wilson.

    Wilson joins the group after nine years with multi service agency Naked, which he co-founded, and nurtured into an award winning hot shop claiming several Cannes Lions and Effie wins. Wilson’s immediate mandate is to manage the Group’s existing pool of blue chip clients, including new wins LG Electronics and Emirates. He has also been tasked with expansion of the Havas Media Group in Australia and launching specialist brands to provide a strong, integrated offering to clients. 

    Mike Wilson will work out of the agency’s Sydney office and report into Vishnu Mohan, CEO Asia Pacific Havas Media Group. His appointment is effective from 25 November 2013.

    On his new role as Havas Media group Australia CEO, Wilson said, “The communications landscape has changed beyond recognition over the past decade, particularly with the advent of digital and mobile, yet there has been very limited innovation in the media agency sector. The time is right. Clients demand a 21st century media agency is available to help navigate this confusing landscape. There also needs to be a media agency destination for hungry young media professionals aiming to forge a career which is rewarding and epoch-shaping. With this new way of working Havas Media will be the agency of choice for the ambitious, where they will be supported, nurtured and challenged to be the industry’s very best.”

    Havas Media Group Australia will replicate the simplified global structure designed to channel the group’s digital, data and content teams into the heart of clients’ teams. Earlier this year, Havas announced the restructuring of its global media operations, which saw the creation of Havas Media Group – consisting of just two media brands Havas Media (formally known as MPG) and Arena.

    MUMBAI: Peter England, the apparel brand of Madura Fashion & Lifestyle has launched a new campaign which features Siddharth in colourful denims and smart young formals and is aimed at the late university youth and early jobbers.

    The campaign was mounted on the insight that today’s youth thinks formal wear stands for boring office clothing. Given this context Peter England wanted to tell them that office wear can also be exciting and expressive. So the campaign idea was simple – ‘Brighten up’ in office with the new line of young formals from Peter England.

    DDB Mudra south strategic planning VP Rajesh Sharma said “Youngsters these days do not want to conform to existing codes, even if they are early jobbers in workplaces. It’s not about ‘rebelling’ but about the belief in ‘expressing’ themselves. The young formals campaign is a celebration of this spirit. The idea on the PE jeans campaign is to tie up the product innovation to something deeper and meaningful about the youth of today. The campaign has been executed with appealing non-office colours and off-the-trodden-path ensembles.  The campaign was shot with Siddharth, who’s been Peter England’s brand ambassador for the past three years.”

    Peter England’s jeans business has taken different route in this segment with innovation in the product. The innovation story has been a recurring theme for the brand. The objective this season was to take the innovation story forward and to bring out the functional features of the product. 

    Peter England chief operating officer Kedar Apshankar said, “Formals has always been considered to be ‘boring/conformist’ by the younger generation today. The challenge was to, catch their imagination by portraying “formals” in a new light. This campaign is a significant step in that direction. Denim has a very crowded brand landscape, with multitude of brands positioned across various platforms.
