No-nonsense Signify walks the talk in new IPL campaign

NEW DELHI: Signify has rolled out a new TV campaign for this year's Indian Premier League (IPL), aimed at promoting its recently launched EcoLink range of fans and lights.

Instead of emphasising performance over-exaggerated product claims and marketing noise, Signify is trying to win over the audience by highlighting the durability and high performance of the EcoLink product range with this ad campaign. The humorous yet honest campaign has been developed by Publicis Communications and targets consumers looking for no-nonsense and high-performance products.

The new campaign includes four films; three featuring the fans range and one featuring the LED lights. The campaign will be also supported by a 360-degree integrated communication strategy including digital media and on-ground activation.

The EcoLink fans films depict the story of a young man who switches on the EcoLink fan expecting a level of relaxation that will help him sail through tough life situations such as a job interview, winning a lottery or propositioning a woman for marriage. This scene cuts back to reality where the narrator urges him to come out of his reverie and realise that the fan’s job is only to provide the most effective air circulation thanks to its strong motor. The essence of the narrative is succinctly captured in the tagline, Dumdaar motor wale EcoLink fans. No hawabaazi, just awesome hawa.

The film for EcoLink light bulbs also reiterates this same philosophy and urges the protagonist to focus on the brightness of the bulb instead of expecting it to deliver miracles. The video concludes with the tagline – Dumdaar brightness wali EcoLink Lights. No bright ideas, bas brightest light.

"We are excited about our latest TV advertising campaign to launch our EcoLink range of products. The quirky campaign has been designed keeping in mind EcoLink’s no-nonsense, honest yet hardworking personality and urges consumers to not believe in unsubstantiated and over-the-top marketing claims. With this campaign, we aim to make EcoLink synonymous with powerful performance and capture a piece of our audience’s mind with this clutter-breaking and entertaining narrative," said Signify Innovations India head – integrated marketing & communications, and commercial operations Nikhil Gupta.

Similarly, at Nilon’s, making topmost quality products with passion comes naturally to us. • 315Work Avenue offers to protect you from ‘Indiranagar Gunda’ Rahul Dravid

315Work Avenue offers to protect you from ‘Indiranagar Gunda’ Rahul Dravid

MUMBAI: If there was one thing that bowled over netizens this weekend, it was Rahul Dravid’s dramatic turn as ‘Indiranagar ka gunda’ in a Cred advertisement. Otherwise known for his cool persona, a commercial managed to do what the fiercest bowlers and toughest competition couldn’t — get Dravid to lose his cool.

To acknowledge and pay tribute to his the cricket legend’s extraordinary performance, coworking space provider 315Work Avenue has come up with witty responses to the new campaign. The company expressed how safe their working space is from ‘gundas’, especially in Indiranagar, where it’s office is located.

It emphasised that, “Our wall is strong enough to keep you safe from Indiranagar Gunda: book your space now,” playing on ‘The Wall’ moniker of the cricketer. The other riposte talked about safety: “Safest Work Place in Indiranagar: Could protect from angry Gunda too.”

315Work Avenue founder Manas Mehrotra said: “The always affable Dravid shouting, smashing rear-view mirrors and throwing coffee, is a brilliant play on his persona. The less than 15 menacing seconds on-screen ad transforms the public image of the former captain of the Indian national cricket team. We could not have imagined that India’s wall would one day be an Indiranagar gunda. As a cricket lover and a fan of Rahul Dravid, we are in awe of the most unexpected character. We came with our response as we wanted to pay an ode to this fantastic campaign and we made sure that we played with words to match the tempo.”

Several other brands like Zomato, Oyo and Parle-G also hitched onto the bandwagon and created some wonderful spinoffs of the Cred ad. Along with the ex-cricketer’s colleagues, including Indian skipper Kohli, top marketing professionals, movie makers and actors also lauded Dravid for his unexpectedly marvellous ‘off-field’ performance. Meanwhile, social media has been in a frenzy since the ad hit the internet, churning out bountiful memes revolving around the rarely-ruffled Rahul Dravid.

  • upGrad’s new campaign brings back the donkey in a new ‘kick-ass’ avatar

upGrad’s new campaign brings back the donkey in a new ‘kick-ass’ avatar

MUMBAI: After the success of its #DontLickAssKickAss campaign last year featuring a donkey, edtech platform upGrad has come out with another campaign which sees the animal in a fresh avatar. The second leg of the 'Sirf Naam ki Nahi, Kaam Ki Degree' campaign sees the donkey as an animated, feisty fortune-teller.

Conceptualised by The Womb, the film reminds working professionals how the right specialisation can lead to one getting salary increments, as high as 50 per cent.

Previously in 2020 the ed-tech firm, via its campaign, had offered an alternative to licking ass in order to progress in one’s career- It told one to get a specialised degree from its many offerings that would make one’s boss take notice of your skillset. In its new ad film, it takes the 'Sirf Naam Ki Nahin, Kaam Ki Degree’ messaging further, using the fortune-teller donkey. The animal predicts the person’s success and bright future after he has acquired a specialisation certificate from upGrad saying, “Specialisation hain right, toh future hoga bright (If the specialisation’s right, the future is bright).”

The Womb founding partner Navin Talreja said, “With the success of #KaamKiDegree we had to find a message that would showcase the value of upGrad specialisations to the fence sitters. Given the success of the donkey as a device we just felt what could be better than getting our donkey deliver this wisdom, albeit in its own feisty manner. Embarking on this journey with Varmdea was reassuring as he is awesome with performances. A charmingly intricate set up, brilliant animation, and the perfect soundtrack have all come together to bring this spectacularly to life."

upGrad chief executive officer Arjun Mohan said, “The campaign is a wake-up call for the youth and working professionals to invest in real value-adding, outcome-oriented education that can result in employability and career progression. We received an overwhelming response in our first leg, as the Donkey, quite literally became a talk of the town."

  • Greenply ropes in Boman Irani to convey importance of safe air in our homes

Greenply ropes in Boman Irani to convey importance of safe air in our homes

NEW DELHI: People have been confined to their homes for over a year, guarding themselves against the spread of the novel Coronavirus, which is mostly spread through air.  But have they ever considered the dangers that dwell unnoticed within our homes? This is the question raised by Greenply Industries in its latest brand campaign.

The TVC campaign created by Ogilvy India highlights the risk of formaldehyde emission from plywood and showcases the ‘Zero Emission (E-0)’ product range of the company, with the tag line; 'E-0 chuno, Khulke saans lo'. The campaign features actor Boman Irani in the lead, and through the course of a lyrical banter, asks the unavoidable question: never mind the dangers outside, who will save you from the dangers inside?

Greenply Industries joint managing director Sanidhya Mittal said, “There has been a significant change in the consumer buying pattern. People today are extremely concerned not only about their external environment but also about the indoor air quality where they live. There is more awareness about the impact of air pollution on human health. The rising concern pushed us to come up with this innovation.”

According to the company, the aim was to weave a narrative that finds its way to the core message through a relatable analogy wrapped in humour.  After all, home is supposed to be a safe space, a mask-free zone. The only thing that stands between you and deep, cleansing breaths is formaldehyde emission. E-0 grade emission compliance made sure that the plywood emits negligible formaldehyde and that its manufacturing facility has an on-site testing mechanism to monitor quality.

Ogilvy executive creative director Sujoy Roy said “Musical banter is one of the oldest forms of creative expressions. It makes the intended message more memorable simply by being engaging, lyrical and humorous. We thought that a comic dialogue leading to a conversation on formaldehyde emissions might just be the way to reach out to homeowners, across social, cultural and class identities. We couldn’t think of anyone better than Boman Irani for the role.”

  • Rahul ‘The Wall’ Dravid’s calm facade cracks in new Cred ad

Rahul ‘The Wall’ Dravid’s calm facade cracks in new Cred ad

MUMBAI: How many times have you seen the Indian cricket team’s former captain Rahul Dravid lose his cool and holler at an opponent? Chances are nil. Known for his calm and gentlemanly temperament, both on and off-the-field, ‘The Wall’, as he’s been dubbed for his rock solid Test match innings, has seldom been known to crumble even under the most intense, nail-biting match situations. So, it’s not surprising that a new ad for credit card payment app Cred, which shows him in a never-before-seen angry avatar, has been breaking the internet! Fans just cannot have enough of this spanking-new side of the cricketer.

So much so that, even current Team India skipper Virat Kohli could not believe his eyes and took to Twitter to share his disbelief saying, “Never seen this side of Rahul bhai,” with a shocked emoji.

The ad plays precisely on this sense of disbelief to promote Cred’s cashback and reward schemes, saying that the offer may sound as unbelievable and ridiculous as saying “Rahul Dravid has anger issues!” And then goes on to show the rarely-flustered cricketer losing his cool while stuck in Bengaluru’s infamous traffic jam. Dravid aces his road rage acting display, even going on to stand up through his SUV’s sunroof with a cricket bat in hand to holler, “Indiranagar ka gunda hun main!’ (I am the don of Indiranagar- a well-known locality in the metro).”

The ad, released ahead of the opening match of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians, went viral in no time and has garnered two million views already.

It even sparked a meme fest online, with some netizens listing it among Dravis’s best ‘performances’ and some blaming the cricketer’s new-found aggression on the Bengaluru traffic, saying it can do this to the best of us.

  • After Ekatvam, Tanishq highlights India’s cultural diversity in new campaign

After Ekatvam, Tanishq highlights India’s cultural diversity in new campaign

NEW DELHI: After being brutally trolled for its controversial Ekatvam campaign last year, it would seem that jewellery brand Tanishq has learnt its lesson. Instead of fixating on a particular religious community, the brand is playing up the unity in diversity sentiment in the new brand proposition for its wedding exclusive sub-brand Rivaah. Through the campaign film – A Jewel for every Tradition – Rivaah by Tanishq is targeting millennial brides-to-be with the appeal that wedding jewellery is a symbol of rituals.

Conceptualised by Lowe Lintas, the ad showcases a series of brides from six communities – Punjabi, Bihari, Marathi, Bengali, Telugu and Tamil and even though the stories showcase cultural diversity inherent to Indian weddings, they sync up to deliver a coherent message – our rich heritage that forms the backbone of our weddings.

The new proposition communicates the meaning and significance of every ritual and jewellery the bride wears. This proposition has been brought alive through a film that provides a canvas to the thought process of today’s bride who wants to wholeheartedly celebrate and participate in her wedding. The film highlights how the modern Indian bride wishes to immerse into the ritualistic and traditional realm of weddings while being closely participative and true to her progressive self.

Tanishq general manager – marketing Ranjani Krishnaswamy said “Rivaah by Tanishq celebrates the richness and diversity of Indian weddings from the lens of a national local jeweller. It has a wide range of stunning handcrafted bridal jewellery trousseau for today’s millennial bride. The Rivaah bride is classic in her wish to immerse herself in her wedding rituals while also being closely participative in understanding their symbolism.”

Lowe Lintas chief creative officer Sagar Kapoor added, “Most pieces of wedding jewellery have a role to play in the rituals. The campaign aims at bringing this relationship alive, between the pieces of jewellery and their link to tradition from a wedding perspective. It speaks about the bride of today who is keen to understand this relationship and hence enjoy the ritual much more.
