    Mumbai: Prime Video has announced 20 August as the premiere date of the docuseries, Angry Young Men. The intriguing three-episode original docu-series traces the journey of the legendary writers Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, popularly known as Salim-Javed, who, brought forth a revolution in Indian storytelling, by crafting iconic characters and dialogues that have etched their influence into the hearts and minds of the audience. Produced by Salman Khan Films, Excel Media & Entertainment and Tiger Baby, Angry Young Men is executive produced by Salma Khan, Salman Khan, Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, and marks the directorial debut of Namrata Rao. Angry Young Men is set to premiere exclusively on Prime Video in India and over 240 countries and territories worldwide on 20 August. Angry Young Men is the latest addition to the Prime membership.

    Angry Young Men is the story of Salim-Javed, the legendary screenwriting duo behind some of the biggest Bollywood blockbusters in 1970s like Sholay, Zanjeer, Deewaar, Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Don and many more.     Mumbai: The world-class storytelling engines of The Walt Disney Company took center stage at the Honda Center during the Disney Entertainment showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney fan event presented by Visa. Surprise celebrity appearances, new film and series titles, and major musical performances enthralled the audience of Disney fans from around the world, demonstrating the unmatched strength of the company’s creative studios, as well as the unique connection that generations of passionate fans of all ages have forged with its stories and characters over the past century.

    Walt Disney Company chief executive officer Bob Iger kicked off the evening to thank fans for their enduring passion, and to highlight what sets Disney apart as a global leader in creative storytelling and innovation. “Our deep bond with fans, forged over a century of storytelling, is stronger today than ever before,” he said, “driven by the unmatched strength of our creative studios, the wide appeal of our brands and franchises, and the innovative ways that we bring our stories to life in our theme parks and experiences.”

    Hosted by Yvette Nicole Brown, the event featured several of Disney’s outstanding creative leaders, including Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman, Pixar Animation Studios’ chief creative officer Pete Docter, Disney Animation’s chief creative officer Jennifer Lee, and Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige were on stage to introduce the stars and storytellers behind new and beloved titles.

    Here are the major highlights from the D23 showcase, where The Walt Disney Studios made several exciting announcements:

    Disney Animation: Three new feature films are on the way. Moana 2 kicked off the event with a performance by Auli‘i Cravalho and introduced new songs, with the film set for release on 29 November 2024. Zootopia 2, featuring Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde on a new adventure, is scheduled for 20 November 2025. Additionally, Frozen 3 was teased for a 2027 release.

    Avatar: James Cameron revealed the title of the third Avatar film, Avatar: Fire and Ash, set for a 19 December 2025 release, with stars Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña returning.

    Pixar: Upcoming films include Elio (13 June 2025), Hoppers (2026), Toy Story 5 (19 June 2026), and Incredibles 3, which is currently in development.

    Lucasfilm: Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni gave a sneak peek of the new Mandalorian and Grogu film, slated for 22 May 2026.

    Marvel Studios: Kevin Feige shared updates on Captain America: Brave New World (14 February 2025) and introduced the cast of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which premieres on 25 July 2025.

    Disney live-action: Announcements included Mufasa: The Lion King (20 December 2024), Disney’s Snow White (21 March 2025), a live-action Lilo & Stitch (Summer 2025), TRON: Ares (10 October 2025), and the sequel Freakier Friday (2025).

    New projects: Dwayne Johnson revealed a new movie centered around monster trucks, celebrating the popularity of monster jam truck rallies.

    Mumbai: Mumbai’s iconic David Sassoon Library’s clock tower was the centre of all attention on Friday evening as ZEE5 held a captivating 3D projection of its just released mystery thriller ‘Gyaarah Gyaarah’. Mumbaikars were in for a spectacular surprise as the multilingual storyteller enthralled commuters and by-standers with a sneak peak into the highly anticipated mystery drama. A collaboration between Guneet Monga’s Sikhya Entertainment and Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment, ‘Gyaarah Gyaarah’ is directed by Umesh Bisht and stars the trio of Raghav Juyal, Kritika Kamra and Dhairya Karwa.  

    Known for its Victorian Gothic architecture, the David Sassoon Library is an integral part of Mumbai’s heritage. The showcase which took place on the day of the show’s launch, 9 August, offered a visually stunning preview of the series, bringing its time-bending narrative to life against the backdrop of one of Mumbai’s most historic landmarks. This takeover by ZEE5 is a testament to the brand’s vision to entertain and engage diverse audiences through concerted high impact initiatives. Prior to the 3D showcase, ZEE5 had held a high-octane trailer launch and a power-packed special screening for industry stalwarts and cinephiles.

    Leveraging the creative brilliance and expertise of both Sikhya Entertainment and Dharmatic Entertainment, Gyaarah Gyaarah has opened to rave reviews. In a bid to meet the massive audience anticipation for the show, ZEE5 dropped all eight episodes of the mystery thriller on 8 August at 11:11 pm. The much-awaited show is a strong step forward in solidifying the homegrown streaming platform’s leadership in India’s OTT ecosystem.

    Gyaarah Gyaarah, starring Raghav Juyal, Kritika Kamra and Dhairya Karwa follows the story of Yug Arya (Raghav Juyal), a young police officer in the present day (2016), who discovers a mysterious communication link with Shaurya Anthwal (Dhairya Karwa), a senior detective from the 1990s through a mysterious walkie talkie. The main hook of this temporal mystery is Vamika Rawat (Kritika Kamra), once mentored by Shaurya before his mysterious disappearance, and now guiding Yug in the present. As Shaurya and Yug collaborate to solve cold cases across time, they unknowingly set off a chain of events that alters the course of history. With each tick of the clock, ‘Gyaarah Gyaarah’ peels the layers of mysteries where past and present collide, leaving viewers questioning the very fabric of time itself.

    Film Companion Studios is a speciality division for long-form storytelling, to create, develop and produce documentaries on all things film and entertainment. Film Companion Studios tells stories of storytellers and artists responsible for making cinema an experience. Through various endeavours, including impact-driven programmes to fund emerging filmmakers, FC Studios aims to take Film Companion’s legacy of discerning and nurturing love for cinema ahead.

    On the inspiration for the creation of Film Companion Studios

    The creation of Film Companion Studios came from our desire to document Indian cinema – the artists, the movies, the high points, and the low points.  We started with Modern Masters, a documentary on SS Rajamouli.  And through making that we decided that we wanted to do long-form storytelling around Indian cinema and pop culture.

    On the planning to maintain the essence of Film Companion’s original mission while expanding into the more niche space of documentary filmmaking

    The essence of Film Companion was always to be the missing Companion.  FC Studios will also fulfil that role by bridging the gap between movies and movie lovers.  We want to create an archive of incredible stories from the world of movies.

    On focusing on long-form storytelling the criteria used to select the subjects for your documentaries

    We want to tell stories that are engaging, informative and always, entertaining.  That is the criteria we use to select subjects.

    As the lines between journalism and content creation continue to blur, On Film Companion and Film Companion Studios shaping the future of entertainment journalism

    We are journalists and storytellers.  Our mandate is to uncover, showcase, and celebrate cinema.  I don’t really worry about being a content creator.  I hope the work that we do helps to propel entertainment journalism in the right direction.

    On anticipating the shift from Film Companion to Film Companion Studios, potential resonance with the existing audience and challenges in retaining their loyalty are considered.

    I think we have to continue to do our work with passion and integrity.  As Rancho said in 3 Idiots – chase excellence and success will follow.  I hope the same is true for our audience.

    Modern Masters was originally conceived by my erstwhile colleagues Baradwaj Rangan and Avinash Prakash.  We took the idea to Applause Entertainment.  Sameer Nair was excited by it and partnered with us in making the documentary.  It’s been a thrilling journey to create the documentary and have it release on Netflix.

    Mumbai: NODWIN Gaming, a global new-age youth gaming, esports, and entertainment company, in collaboration with Android has unveiled an experiential one-day carnival to celebrate the final of the third consecutive year of Battlegrounds Mobile India Masters Series (BGMS). Designed to bring the community together for a memorable experience, the event is set to take place on August 11, which is Day 3 of the finals of the tournament, at Kicksal, Osho Drive in Chhatarpur, New Delhi.

    The highlight of Android BGMS Carnival will be the view party of the Android BGMS Season 3 finals Day 3 alongside a live performance by music artist Garv Taneja, better known as Chaar Diwaari. The event will also feature ‘AndroidLand’ comprising a range of gamified activities and immersive experiences for attendees. Additionally, there will be several other community experiences including expo stalls and food and beverage stalls from notable brands such as Garnier Men and Red Bull.

    The high-voltage action of Android BGMS Season 3 finals, featuring the nation’s top 16 esports teams will be broadcast on Star Sports from August 9 to 11.
