    Nazara Technologies to Raise upto Rs 495 Crores, Acquires Zeptolab UK’s IPs

    MUMBAI:  It’s playing a sharp hand. Leading Indian gaming company Nazara Technologies has announced two key developments. The company will raise upto Rs 495 Crores through a preferential issue of upto 50 lakh equity shares at Rs. 990 per share, and acquire the Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) of Zeptolab UK Limited for approximately Rs. 66.59 Crores.

    The preferential issue of upto 50 lakh equity shares at Rs  990 per share, with a maximum consideration of Rs. 495 Crores, will be issued to Axana Estates LLP, a company associated with the promoters of Nazara Technologies. The four partners of Axana Estates include:. Mithun Padam Sacheti, Siddhartha Sacheti, Yash Siddhartha Sacheti and Arpit Khandelwal. Earlier, Nazara’s board gave the fund raising proposal a thumbs up.

    The acquisition of Zepto includes the rights to CATS: Crash Arena Turbo Stars and King of Thieves, two highly successful mobile gaming IPs in their respective genres.  Nazara Technologies will take on the publishing responsibilities for both games and own the IPRs.The payment of Rs 66.59 Crores will be made in cash within 30 days, subject to regulatory approvals.

Gaming and sports media company Nazara Technologies’s subsidiary Fusebox Games has announced a strategic partnership with Banijay Rights, the global distribution arm of content powerhouse Banijay Entertainment, to develop and launch the first-ever Bigg Boss Interactive fiction game.

    The Bigg Boss interactive fiction game will allow players to step into the Bigg Boss house, create their avatars, and navigate dynamic narratives inspired by the show’s most memorable moments. The game will feature live in-game events synchronized with the TV series, branching storylines, and localised narratives in Hindi and regional Indian languages.

    “We are excited to reimagine this iconic format as an immersive, interactive experience that fans can engage with in entirely new ways,” said Fusebox CEO Terry Lee. “This partnership with Banijay Rights underscores our commitment to delivering compelling, localised interactive fiction games that resonate deeply with audiences.”

    Added Banijay Rights  senior vice-president, gaming & gambling Mark Woollard, , “Bigg Boss and Big Brother have captured the hearts of millions of viewers worldwide.     The game is set to launch in 2025, alongside the Big Brother Interactive Fiction Game. A Big Boss board game has already been doing the rounds of the toy markets in India.

The funding underscores confidence in iR’s vision for the next generation of the internet, leveraging extended reality (XR) and artificial intelligence (AI).

    The investment positions iR as a major player in the rapidly growing immersive technology sector, projected to reach nearly $1 trillion by 2030. CEO John Acunto emphasised the company’s commitment to empowering businesses and creators with tools to craft immersive digital experiences while retaining full ownership of their data and customer relationships.

    “This fundraise validates our mission to build an immersive platform that powers the next era of the web,” said Acunto. “Our customers can now seamlessly transition from 2D websites to immersive spaces, optimising their operations and unlocking new revenue opportunities.”

    IInfinite Reality plans to leverage the funding for continued expansion, including acquisitions, partnerships, and product development. Key recent milestones include:

    * The significant expansion of iR’s MENA presence through partnerships with both public and private sectors. This rapid growth is highlighted by multiple high profile collaborations, including the development of advanced digital twin technologies for practical applications such as interactive training and safety demonstrations for the UAE ministry of finance, as well as the recent unveiling of the digital twin of the DMCC Crypto Centre.     * Continued work with Warner Bros. Discovery Sports, including the launch of the FIM SGP-VERSE app, the world’s first socially interactive and fully immersive speedway experience with features such as customisable camera streams, an exclusive pit reporter feed and on-demand video content. 

    In addition, iR is advancing its Florida innovation hub, transforming a former Superfund site into a state-of-the-art headquarters in Fort Lauderdale, expected to create thousands of jobs and bolster the region’s technological leadership.

    Co-founder Amish Shah noted that the investment, secured as equity without debt, allows iR to execute its vision without restrictions. “This partnership provides us with unparalleled resources to grow through innovation, acquisitions, and global market expansion.”

    MUMBAI: The XR Sports Alliance (XRSA) is beginning to gather momentum. Founded by video streaming solutions company Accedo  together with wireless tech company  Qualcomm Technologies and  sports host broadcaster HBS, in June 2024, it has announced its first batch of members. These include: sports rights owner E1 Series; telecom operator Deutsche Telekom; AR glasses and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) XReal and and technology service providers, Ateme, Skyrim.ai.

    The new members will  be contributing to the XRSA, which aims to accelerate knowledge gathering, technological advancement and time-to-market for XR sports services, as well as gather and share industry knowledge across the globe.

    Said Accedo CEO Michael Lantz: “The XRSA was born from a shared vision. Our ambition is to build a powerful collective of passionate leaders and experts from both the sports and XR industries, all committed to advancing the commercialisation of XR sports services. Every member is important for how we shape our end-to-end experimentation framework and how we lay the foundation for scalable technology and sustainable XR business models.”

    Qualcomm Technologies senior director business development Patrick Costello added: “Through the XRSA user testing framework, we  will gather valuable data from global deployments and share these lessons learned reports with our members, ensuring insights are drawn from diverse audiences to inform future developments.”

    The company got a go-ahead  from its board for this proposal and informed the Bombay stock exchange about its intent over the weekend.

    Shemaroo said it is taking this step to innovate and stay ahead in the evolving digital entertainment landscape. Shemarooverse will focus on creating immersive experiences and leveraging block chain technology to redefine ownership and interaction in the entertainment ecosystem.  

    Dubai, according to the company is welcoming web3 ventures and it has a very friendly web3 regulatory environment, which is critical for token-based transactions  and block chain integration. Talent too is available aplenty aside from cutting edge tech to support the development of a globally competitive product.

    The company added that the objective is to position Shemaroo as a leader in the web3 and metaverse space, ensuring scalability, innovation, and long-term growth.
