Tata Group’s Cyrus Mistry plans Rs 2,000 crore IPO for Tata Sky

MUMBAI: In 2012 Tata Group chairman Cyrus Pallonji Mistry is believed to be offering Rs 2,000 crore for the Tata Sky’s amount of issue, according to a report.

Mistry had had initiated the process to sell part of Tata Sky in his first initial public offering (IPO) move after becoming the group chairman and a recent report by Times of India says Tata Sky will also be the 30th publicly listed company from the Tata Group which currently has a combined market cap of nearly Rs 7.2 lakh crore.

Early next week, the company’s investors, management, underwriters and counsel will hold the kickoff meeting to thrash out the red herring prospectus, Times of India reported.

To take matters forward, Morgan Stanley, Citi and Kotak Mahindra Capital will manage the DTH provider’s offering in which Tata Sons owns 51per cent, media mogul Rupert Murdoch’s 21st Century Fox has 30 per cent, Singapore state investor Temasek 10 per cent, and Tata Opportunities Fund holds 9 per cent.

Mistry has revived the plan to list Tata Sky on the domestic stock market, which will help the 47-year-old to part-monetize the asset by bringing in fresh funds to fuel the conglomerate’s growth plans and trim its debt. In fiscal 2015, its loss stood at Rs 267 crore.

The report also stated that there are prospects of sale of new shares as well as of existing shares held by promoters including Tata Sons and Temasek, which has remained invested in Tata Sky since 2007. According to the report, Temasek wants to encash some of its holdings in the 12-year-old Tata Sky, which will have a gross profit of Rs 1,000 crore in fiscal 2016. Murdoch’s 21st Century Fox intends to retain its ownership, while Tata Opportunities Fund is undecided whether it wants to sell a stake in the IPO, the person added.

Tata Sky intends to use the proceeds from the share sale to beef up its balance sheet. The company, which has emerged as the leader in the DTH field, will break even this financial year.

Discovery Gardens in Dubai issued warning to remove dishes & TV antennas

MUMBAI: The residents of Discovery Gardens in Dubai have been warned that the satellite dishes or antennas outside the roofs and balconies are expected to be removed, according to a report in Emirates 247 News which adds the violators of the issue will be made liable to vandalism charges.

Nakheel Facilities and Owners Association Management has placed notices in the community comprised of over 20,000 residential apartments saying satellite dishes need to be removed by 10 March 2016.

According to the notice, “During our inspection we have noticed that there are satellite dishes/ antennae installed on the external façade/balcony/roof of some buildings. Hence, we would like to remind all residents in Discovery Gardens that such practice is deemed illegal”.

Under Section 6.2 of the Community Use Rules, the users must maintain at all times the exterior appearance of their properties in a manner which befits the overall standards of development contained within the master community to the reasonable satisfaction of the managing agent, it is stated.

The notice also mentions restriction includes installation of satellite dishes on or over the balconies/roof tops exposed to public view that materially alters the appearance and integrity of the building.

Furthermore, Section 7.1.2 states that community users must not make any modifications affecting the appearance of the exterior of any property, including but not limited to balconies, awnings, canopies, sunshades, front and rear fencing, air conditioning units and related equipment, fans, screens, gutters, storm doors, satellite dishes, external radio or TV antenna and enclosures of any kind, painting of the exterior, permanent decorations (excluding holiday decorations) or any other changes, “without the prior written approval of the Managing Agent and relevant authorities (including the Civil Engineering Department and Environment Health and Safety Departments of the Ports and Customs and Free Zone).”

“If you fail to comply within the stipulated timing, satellite dishes will be removed at the owners’ cost, with the involvement of the local authorities, Trakhees and/or Dubai Police, if necessary,” the notice states.

It goes on to advise residents that du, the telecom service provider, reserves the right to provide satellite service and other telecom services in Discovery Gardens.

The main reasons for residents opting for satellite dish antennas is that they are cheaper than the official TV packages within the country. A Dish TV package, beamed through a satellite dish antenna, costs between Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,000 (Dh 200 to Dh 240) for a year, with a bouquet of Indian channels on offer, compared to Dh 120 a month for basic Hindi channel package.

  • DD Freedish confirms MPEG-4 next month, NDTV says no decision on going FTA on any of its channels

DD Freedish confirms MPEG-4 next month, NDTV says no decision on going FTA on any of its channels

New Delhi: Even as two pay channels – Aajtak and Big Magic – have come on Doordarshan Freedish as free-to-air channel, possibilities have opened up for more channels coming on the platform even as it prepares to complete its migratiom to MPEG-4 next month. A Prasar Bharati source confirmed that the switch-over to MPEG-4 will be in two phases and the aim was to take the total capacity to 112.

Claiming that the Broadcast Audience Ratings Council (BARC) ratings had shown the importance of Freedish in reaching out to rural India, the source said that Aajtak and Big Magic which are pay channels are being run as FTA and have been accommodated in the current MPEG-2.

Meanwhile, NDTV denied any decision on turning FTA and coming on Freedish next month. An NDTV source said that any such decision, if taken, would be communicated through the media. A senior official who did not want to be named also confirmed that no decision had been taken yet on any of the NDTV bouquet channels going free to air, since this kind of decision could only be taken at the management and board levels.

Doordarshan sources also said that as all the 64 slots under MPEG-2 had been filled, there was no question of any other channel coming on. In any case, he said any channel which decided to come on the platform had to bid in the auctions that are held from time to time. All the slots under MPEG-2 were filled, the next auction date had not been finalized, the sources confirmed.

Freedish is adopting the conditional access system designed by the Bangalore-based ByDesign India Pvt Ltd.

The ByDesign model is totally indigenous and built for DVB-C setup. This CAS solution will enable broadcasters and network operators to control access to their services by viewers, and thereby enabling them to extend their business models to subscription based schemes.

This will mean that the Freedish will become encrypted but will remain free to air. In addition to helping increase the number of channels on the platform, this will enable Freedish to gauge the exact number of households relying on Freedish as encrypted set top boxes will only be available with authorized dealers.

The ByDesign CAS is provided by making access possible to content, depending on subscriber credentials, which are generated by this CAS and sent through the broadcast system to receivers in the field.
