MUMBAI: In an increasingly mechanised world, there are still some things that can’t be automated – creativity being one of them. Etsy, the global marketplace for unique and creative goods, in its recent social media campaign, #CelebrateTheCreator, highlighted and celebrated some of the most unique and creative makers on the Etsy platform as part of a larger effort to inspire and encourage creative people to pursue their passion. It is a three-month campaign that celebrates the stories of exceptional entrepreneurs that mainly work out of home and have made Etsy their home.
Through an amalgamation of short videos and product posts, the #CelebrateTheCreator campaign has traveled to the homes and small studios of makers from different corners of the country, from Ahmedabad to Lucknow, from Srinagar to Shahpura in Jaipur and many other places.
Every week, the social media pages of Etsy India, unfold a beautiful story of a seller who went ahead to realise the dream of being a creative entrepreneur, kept alive traditional art forms by making them available online, and in the process inspired people to share their art with the world.
Take, for instance, a mother-daughter duo making sweaters in Chandigarh, a traditional sandal-wood miniature carving artist from Jaipur, a self-taught miniature food artist in Ahmedabad to a film-maker turned “mommy-clothes” designer from Lucknow, all these exceptional sellers and their stories have been captured forever.
Speaking on the campaign, Etsy managing director – India Himanshu Wardhan, said, “Our sellers challenge the conventional notions of entrepreneurship, as we provide a global platform and work every day to make business ownership easy for them. They are making a living while living their passion. The #CelebrateTheCreator campaign aims to reach out to creative people from all over the country and inspire them to do more.”
The campaign featured 12 Etsy sellers and has garnered more than 5 million views. It also led to a surge in traffic to the Etsy India Instagram page and the number of followers crossed the 138,000 marks in less than 2 weeks.
