Mumbai: Today, women are breaking the glass ceiling in every sector. Beyond all this, there still exists a patriarchal mindset. Not many women are in the C-suite taking important decisions. And, of course, there still exists pay parity.
This Women’s Day, we, at Indiantelevision.com, are acknowledging some women leaders of the media, marketing, and advertising fraternity and also from other professions, who have given more than expected.
On her journey
In a professional journey of almost 25 years, I’ve held senior positions with prestigious organizations around the world. I was part of the founding team of The Body Shop India and have spent almost a decade on the brand based out of its Gurgaon headquarters. Previously, I have led the forecasting & pricing verticals for Oriflame Cosmetics based out of New Delhi & Bangkok. My earlier stints include key roles at Shoppers Stop, Westside Trent Ltd & Piramyd Retail, all based out of Mumbai.
I am currently leading the marketing vertical as the director of strategy for The Body Shop, Asia South, a global personal care company based in Britain. I also oversee the product and digital divisions. I’m presently responsible for developing marketing plans that support R&D and internal communication of strategic marketing plans to achieve brand objectives.
On her inspiration and inspiring the team
My own experiences have been my greatest inspiration. It’s only through the years I have learnt not to back down and always face every challenge head-on. After working across the lifestyle and beauty industry for more than 20 years, it has only inspired me how this industry has gone through a paradigm shift. Today, I see varied industries being driven by women which were once male dominant. This also drives me to be a better leader, by supporting and encouraging my team to thrive better.
I think my most favorite inspiration to share with the team is the founder of The Body Shop – Dame Anita Roddick. A fearless woman, an icon who transformed the way of business for people across the globe. She is at the heart of our change-making beauty brand, her words & thoughts continue to inspire us and all that we do.
On empowerment of women
Today, women’s empowerment has become a token-word. We must acknowledge the contribution of women to society and ensure that active steps are taken to uplift them, thus contributing to the greater good of humanity. Each of us, as individuals and organisations has a role to play in this journey – whether it be changing the female narrative for 1 woman or for 15 women, we must take charge.
Indeed, with a leader comes great responsibility to motivate their team and promote a healthy work environment where both the company’s and personal growth are fostered.
