Despite the financial challenges that hampered access to healthcare, these fathers displayed grit and determination to raise funds for the medical treatment of their children. Here’s a look at some inspiring stories.
Four-year-old Srishti was involved in a life-changing accident caused by a reckless driver. Srishti suffered severe injuries, including pelvic ruptures, perineal tears, and brain contusions leading to polytrauma. With medical expenses mounting to Rs 9.20 Lakhs, Srishti’s father, a humble craftsman and sole provider for the family, turned to Impact Guru for help. Through their campaign and support from friends, family, and compassionate strangers nationwide, they successfully raised Rs nine Lakh for Srishti’s critical surgeries. Today, Srishti is living a normal and happy life.

Santosh’s life took a devastating turn when she was stung by an insect, resulting in life-altering injuries. The insect bite caused a broken femur bone, a damaged hip joint, and other severe injuries, leaving her unable to walk. Living in a remote village in Uttar Pradesh, India, with her father and brother as her only caregivers, Santosh’s family faced an overwhelming challenge. The recommended surgeries, including total hip replacements, amounted to Rs 10 Lakh, an insurmountable cost for the impoverished family. Determined to help Santosh regain her mobility, the family initiated a crowdfunding campaign with ImpactGuru. Through the compassionate contributions of people, they raised the required amount enabling Santosh to undergo five successful surgeries. Today, she has achieved a significant milestone and can walk again, no longer confined to crawling.

Hammad was born in October 2020 with a rare condition known as Sirenomelia, or the Mermaid Syndrome. His legs were fused together, resembling a mermaid’s tail, and his urogenital were displaced behind his legs and not in the front. Only 1 in 1,00,000 children in India are affected by this disorder. Hammad’s parents were shocked to learn that the cost of his surgeries would amount to Rs 23 lakh, an impossible sum for his father, who earned Rs 5,000 a month as an electrician. They sought help and launched a campaign on Impact Guru, which successfully raised the required amount within 60 days. Hammad underwent surgery on August 19, 2021, and is currently recovering well.
