Vesit triumphs at Robocon India 2004

MUMBAI: Two years ago pubcaster Doordarshan took on the task of promoting the Robocon game competition in India. This sees engineering students building robots. Two teams compete against one another for the right to represent India at the international Robocon competition.

This year, the team from Vivekananda Education Society’s Institute (Vesit) came out on top.

The idea behind Robocon is to promote technology through fun among youth. The Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) is leading the initiative by bringing together the different regional efforts onto a common platform.

Three Doordarshan Robocon competitions have been held so far. An important development happened in May when the website roboconindia.com was set up. Doordarshan claimed that the site had received over 200,000 hits and 105 teams had registered for the 2004 Doordarshan Robocon Championship.
