MUMBAI: Talking to a four-member film industry delegation that called on him, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh vowed to look into the recommendations of the information, communications and entertainment Committee that he had set up in 2006 when he headed the previous government. The Prime Minister also promised them that he would protect the industry against piracy and said that he wanted “Indian cinema to flourish”.
Said producer director Mahesh Bhatt, “Piracy is like the kiss of death for us. Through stringent anti-piracy laws, the government should arrest piracy. The PM assured us that he would do everything to protect the film industry.”
Post their meeting with the Prime Minister, the delegation met Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee who said that he fully agreed to the fact that the Indian film industry deserves recognition and support from the Government as he believed that the Industry serves as the ‘cultural ambassador of India‘ overseas.
“The Indian film industry deserves all due respect and support from our Government as it serves the nation and promotes our Indian culture worldwide.” Mukherjee added.
Mukesh Bhatt, Amit Khanna and Manmohan Shetty were the other members of the delegation.
