CNN-IBN, IBN7 plans special programming for festival season

MUMBAI: As the entire nation gears up for the celebrations of Eid, Ganesh Chaturthi, Dusshera and Diwali, Network18 news channels – CNN-IBN and IBN7 – have lined up exclusive programmes, starting 11 September till 5 November.

The shows will help viewers with sharing tips for shopping, guiding them through rituals and most importantly, alerting them on all the security procedures.

The exclusive series Utsav will start with a special coverage of the Eid celebrations at Jama Masjid. The Eid programming will be followed by specials on Ganesh Utsav showcasing the various pandals and temples in Mumbai, but also provide viewers a sneak peek into the festival celebrations at celebrity homes.

The channels will celebrate the victory and homecoming of Goddess Durga by telecasting live all the activities of the most revered temples and pandals in Kolkata throughout the days of Durga Puja. IBN7 will also cover Ram Leela and Dussehra celebrations from across the country from 8-17 October.

Moving on from the religious festivals later, the channels will focus on Karwa Chauth, highlighting all preparations, shopping involved and giving viewers a peek into the lives of celebrity wives preparing for the occasion. For Diwali, the festival of lights, both the channels will focus on how India celebrates Diwali as a nation. Also, with the intent of putting a conscience to the festival, the channels will initiate a campaign via online media and SMS against fireworks and the pollution it causes.

IBN18 Network Editor-in-Chief Rajdeep Sardesai said, “The beauty of being an Indian is that our culture is enriched with diverse faiths and traditions. Through the Utsav programming, we wish to put forth the true image of India, which is a country where our unity is reflected through the enthusiasm and vibrancy with which we celebrate each of our festivals.”

Added IBN7 managing editor Ashutosh, “Utsav programming will bring the sparkle of revelry through the length and breadth of the country so that no matter where you are, the constant reminder of cultural brotherhood and solidarity does not escape you.”
