NEW DELHI: Bloomberg UTV, the Englsih business news channel is gearing up to launch a new reality show, which will test the business acumen of highly qualified professionals from business schools and multi-national corporations when they are asked to handle the working of what might be a family owned private business run on methods learnt from experience.
The 13-episodic show, The Assignment, will be aired every Saturday at 8 pm, starting 18 September on Bloomberg UTV.
The show will be hosted by Cyrus Sahukar.
Accustomed to a particular way of life, executives from corporate India will be moved to home grown/ domestic businesses for a day to run the show. These business houses might not have the finesse or the polish of the MNCs, but are still rock solid and efficiently run business operations. Being thrown into such an environment will provide India Inc’s brightest minds with an altogether unique learning experience, believes the channel.
Bloomberg UTV business head Deepak Lamba said that the reality show had been the result of an audience survey done soon after the tie-up of Bloomberg with UTV. “The idea was to carve education and business into entertainment to make it acceptable. The concept of this show is inspired from the insight that every manager considers himself an expert. Our objective is to help him step out of the comfort zone and test his skills in a completely different environment. The series underlines the fact that an Indian homegrown setup has much more to teach than it has to learn from Corporate India,” Lamba said.
Sahukar added that the show had also revealed that the corporate and local structures had merged well in India. The aim would be to place “tested players in untested waters,” he said.
He said those featuring in the episodes shot so far had revealed that while they had been put in difficult situations, they had also taken back some valuable lessons from the companies they worked with.
