MUMBAI: PVR Pictures will release Dibakar Banerjee‘s political thriller Shanghai on 26 January.
The freezing of the release date means that Banerjee and his team have less than six months to bring the film to its final shape and then embark on a marketing campaign to build inquisitiveness among audiences.
The film was shot in a record 42 days mainly in Latur and Baramati. A press release describes Shanghai as a ‘roller coaster expose of big money politics and how the common man gets his revenge back.‘ In short, the film is an expose of big money politics and how the common man takes his revenge.

A stellar cast, combined with Dibakar‘s unique story telling ability, has turned the film into an experience that no one will forget. All of us at PVR Pictures are extremely bullish about Shanghai‘s box office prospects and couldn‘t imagine a better date than 26 January to release the film worldwide.”
The film has Abhay Deol, Emraan Hashmi, Kalki Koechlin, Bengal actor Prosenjit, Farooque Shaikh and Supriya Pathak.
